Meyer,
You were just waiting to get that picture. Good job.

The more posts here, the more the message gets out that this is one fine truck. Often the only thing we read is about the problems with this model. In fact, the problems are the exceptions and longevity is the norm.

Seems like the 97 & 98 models with the 4.6 fare the best from reading the posts.
Gotta love the 4.6 engine!! It's what my next truck will have, that's for sure.

Well, I just traded in my 146,264 mile, 97 F150 S-cab 4x4 on a 120 mile 05 F150 S-cab 4x4. Bought the 97 on 3-18-96.

So I guess I'm in the 100 club for a few days.

Here's to another 9 years or so...

My 1997 F150 4.2L standard shift just turned 276,ooo miles. Just replaced original clutch, and yesterday I blew headgasket and freeze plug out the back of the motor. DRATS! was hoping for 500,000 without major work. Was clocked at 19mpg hwy the day before problem. Anyone know good spot to get new engine? The mileage is still remarkable, cause I have done quite a bit of HEAVY hauling with it.

I'm close...i'm sitting at 91,000 as of yesterday on Shorty. No knocks, no pings, no major scratches, no rust. It'll porbably go for another 300 - 400K....that would be somethin'!

203,000 and Running Strong.

Just had to replace Lower Ball Joints and 2 Tie Rod Ends were replaced before I owned it.

Other than that, I had the replace a leaking Powersteering Pump in the fall and I was told the Alternator was replaced last year.

Just went over 100, 000 this past week. No major problems since I bought it, gonna be 8 years this May.
probably going to curse myself, but I'm still on the original battery. This has been one of the best trucks I've ever owned.

101,675 on a 2001 Super Crew. Ford recently rebuilt the rear axle, because an independent garage fouled up on a replacement of the pinion seal and pinion gear. Other than that only routine maintenance.

new poster avid reader when time permits

i'm currently at 198,598 miles on my 1997 F-150 XL 4.6 Auto extended cab
the only problems are as listed :
replaced tires front pads & front right ball joint @86k
replaced spark plugs/wires fuel filter main belt @ 120k
check engine light came on @122k ( not fixed)
replaced AC Hose @128k
replaced shocks @152k
replaced Battery @168k
replaced Radiator @ 183k ( my fault no flushes)
replaced rear u-joint @ 198,575 (today)

lining up to do the next major service again in next 10k

keep a mileage listing of every mile i've placed on the truck and every gallon pumped into it. The Check engine light was tested and explained by my mech if i understood him right cause the fuel / air ratio to be out and would only slightly hurt my gas mileage. hopefully will fix during the next major service.
average mpg for total of 198,560 is 17.6
average mpg since check enging light 76k is 17.2
best mpg 20.8 Running free (lol)
worst mpg 16.1 pulling camper

other than that just regular services

only mod i've done is replace the am/fm cass with a am/fm cass/cd had to cut the bracket and trim a little to get it to fit. interested in reading the trottle body clean hopefully will find the time to do it and take pictures.

also being a rookie in the working on or fixing dept. i've been tighting or adjusting my rear drums to keep the pressure off my front pads by either setting park brake and placing in reverse and giving gas or by finding a straight spot and backing up and pressing the main break pedel. is this how ya'll do the adjusting ? its help he improve my brakes from 86k to so far 112k+
