My 1997 F-150 is about to turn 175,000 in the next few miles. Changed clutch at 100,000, heater core at 160,000 and just did lower ball joints and upper control arms (like KYFordFreak they didnt need to be changed but i am paranoid) other than that no major problems. It has been a really great truck. Even has the original battery. I am expecting way more miles out of this one. I would not hesitate to buy another just like it either.

115,000 on my 98 F150 5.4 4X4.
Biggest problem is getting my wife out of it.

1 battery, 1 tortion bar (under warranty), 2 ball joints, and finally spark plugs. That is all
.

Have a 99'RC 4.2 5 speed with 124,000 (will be sold after my recently purchased 98' Supercab issues are shook out. Had a 95' 300 5 speed with 202,000. Both trucks rev out every gear everyday. No major problems...Just bought a 98' 4.6l supercab with 101k, but it has problems. Need advice, but I'm still in the process of elimating causes. Process going slow, because I'm working 7 nights a week and have a newborn.

1997 F-150 4X4 Off-Road Package

My old girl has 222k miles on her! I had to replace the tranny sensor cause bonehead me forgot to hit the overdrive button pulling my bass boat across country! Other than that she has had piston slap since about 40k miles and leaks about a quart of oil every 3000 miles from the front main. No other mechanical probs. Me, that truck, and a chainsaw cleared 4 acres of East Texas thicket to build my home. She works hard and is still going strong. I still love gettin behind the wheel!

true mileage unknown

Odometer Reads 138k on my '97 4.2 F150 5speed. I bought the truck Jan 2002 with 67k on it. Shortly after purchase I discovered that my speedo reads 15 mph slow at 65 mph! Not sure how many more that adds up to in additional miles! As far as problems: changed out radiator and water pump @ about 85k, plugs and wires @105k, front brakes @ 97k, clutch @ 137k due do bad throw out bearing, u-joints a week later. Thats about it. Should make it to 200k with no prob.

'98 Expedition with 115,000+. Replaced leaking exhaust manifolds with headers, replaced the sway bar ends that fell off, wheel bearings on front wheels, upper and lower ball joints on both front wheels, starter, plus the recalls for faulty wheel lug nuts and the turn signal/wiper switch that hasn't worked right since! Had the thing since new, babied it for 36,000 miles. All the doors are rusting on the bottom( dealer said they weren't bad enough to fix before it hit the 5 year mark!). Replaced all O2 sensors on exhaust. About it so far.

Unhappy Saddened by the inevitable...

293,631. That's right - 293,631. That's how far my good ole 87 F150 made it before its meltdown; never had the heads or pan off the ole gal...

Well, maybe not a meltdown, but far enough to require an engine swap.

Damper/balance spun on the crank creating a tapered crank and a rather nasty mess. Replacing the crank requires tearing down all the other stuff, so I'll just put a Reman in and give it another try.

It's a sad day around here (3/22/05). I can no longer say: "You know how many miles I've got? Blah, Blah, Blah... and NEVER even had the heads off..."

Oh well, I'll find something else about her to brag about.

I know - I haven't had a front end alignment in 6 years, and the tires wear evenly. (It's true, but it doesn't have the same pizazz, does it?)

-A

Well my truck has 109000 miles but I am about to say the hell with it! I find it unacceptable to need a head job at only 100,000 miles on it. It's my daily driver and I just can't have it being undependable like this any longer. I am strongly considering getting rid of it and running with the money. As for buying another F150, I would like to but now I am concerned that this issue may crop up on a new truck as they are the same engines. Overall the longer it is taking to get my truck fixed the less likely it is that I will fix or keep it.

speedy46, most F150's will run strong at over 100K. Once in a while there is a lemon and if you get another one I am almost sure it will run well for very long. Mine is 110K+ and no problems at the moment with the engine.

Good luck.

JMTruck,

That is exactly where I was when I had the problem. I have 109000miles on it. I was hoping that the engine would last well over 150000. My dad's car is fine at 134000 miles on it he doesn't even take care of it.
