You're right about one thing, it is pretty simple... Very first post....

You're not committing to anything. Just showing interest. No mailing lists. No spam.
From that point on he had to keep trying to reitierate those points as people took off in different directions. I'm not sure just how clear you personally need things to be made, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of confusion there to me....

The company was simply trying to figure out if they should cast 10 in the first run, or 20 or 30 or.......hence a simple email to the company to express interest in such a product.....thats all.....

I think its pretty obvious that we need to see actual results, prices, etc... before anyone will actually plop down an order, but as far as I can tell a simple email saying "I'm interested in this product for my F150 if it produces good results during testing" doesn't put a charge on your credit card....

Anywho....back on track..... With the above being restated again I'm gonna stick my neck out on behalf of r3dn3ck and suggest the same thing he did.... If you are interested in this part, though of course you aren't going to actually buy one until you've seen test results IN A TRUCK, it would be in your own best interest to send the company a simple email saying you have interest in this intake if it performs well in testing (in a truck ). The more interest they see from the truck side, the more important it will be to move the product along and get the testing done. Pretty simple concept....

How could I have missed this.... If I decide to make a run of them I may feel the need to put out a post asking how many are intested so I know how many to make.....

No, after that, he started making statements about the price and the benefits of the intake even before it was built. That whole don't p**s in my ear and tell it's raining analogy....

So in essense, by one e-mailing and expressing interest, and by what you state here, HPS is going to "cast" one just out of "one" e-mail? Before any testing of the intake and prices are finalized? Doesn't sound like a very good business plan if this casting of the intake turns out to be a flop. So instead of only casting a small # for testing purposes only, they are going to cast based on the #'s of e-mails expressing interest on a first design run? What happens if 150 people express interest? Are they going to cast 150 intakes on a intial design run and possibly have to revise the design to get optimum performance? So what happens with these 150 intakes? If this isn't the business idea behind the above statement made by you, then please clearify.

Why is it so important for HPS to receive all these interest e-mails? They can't cast 5 - 10 of them and test them, gather data, revise the design if need be, and then ask for consumer interest? It just sounds odd that they (HPS) and other "customers" are so concerned about the market being out there for this. If it is a good product, it should sell itself, but we as consumers don't know how good of a product it is until they ( HPS ) actually test it.

My god man, its likely conversing with a @$&^$# brick wall.......

I will make one last attempt to break it down for you....

THEY ARE GOING TO CAST THE FIRST PRODUCTION RUN.

THE DESIGN IS DONE. NO ONE ANYWHERE IN THIS THREAD HAS MENTIONED CASTING A FEW PROTOTYPES. THEY ARE ALREADY PRODUCING A 4.6 VERSION OF THE INTAKE, THIS IS JUST A MODIFIED CASTING FOR THE 5.4

THIS WILL BE THE FIRST PRODUCTION RUN.

THEY ARE TRYING TO GUESSTIMATE HOW MANY IT WOULD BE PRUDENT TO PRODUCE IN THIS FIRST RUN.

IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED YOU MIGHT WANT TO EMAIL AND EXPRESS SAID INTEREST.

BY SENDING SUCH AN EMAIL YOU ARE NOT PURCHASING AN INTAKE, YOU ARE SIMPLY HELPING THE COMPANY GAUGE HOW STRONG THE MARKET POTENTIALLY IS.

TO SIMPLIFY EVEN FURTHER, IF THEY GET MILD INTEREST THEY MIGHT CAST 10. IF THEY GET A FLOOD OF INTEREST THEY MIGHT CAST 50.

TO TAKE IT EVEN FURTHER FOR YOU, DUE TO ECONOMIES OF SCALE IN MANUFACTURING IF THEY SEE FIT TO PRODUCE A LARGER QUANTITY IT MAY ALLOW A LOWER SELLING PRICE. THIS IS GOOD.

Damn....

You make my head hurt....

figure $1000 for intake and gaskets for what might be a 15 to 20 hp increase (in your peak rpm) everyone that is b!tching has no intention of buying this product.

probably would need ported heads and aftermarket cams to see the benefits.
Considering that the modular ford 2V, v-8 came out in 1992 and ended a few years ago and people like edlebrock or holley havnt made an intake. nor has anyone made aftermarkets heads, must not be a big need in this market

Actually I'm quite interested and have numerous friends/contacts that would see a benefit in this product. But how interested can they be without seeing any testing #'s?

Well, until actual testing is done, it's all assumption. But I will agree with you.

And out of all my years on the forums, I have yet to see one post from anyone from Edlebrock or Holley peddling interest in potential products....

So I take it this isn't the first brick wall you have had a conversation with?

So they are going right to production before testing is complete? ( What I stated in my last post to you but evidently you are more interested in gaining interest for HPS than actually answering potential consumer inquiries )Frankly, if that intake for my truck makes 20 hp and 30 ft/lbs of tq at 6000 rpm. It's not very useful. If it made it's peak gains at 3000 rpm than I, and surely others would be interested. Has HPS produced an intake for the 4.6 truck motor? If so, how many have they sold?

So I follow you right to this last paragraph. Do you see the logic in possibily mass producing a product on somebodies potential interest, without providing actual data to support it? Like I said earlier, if the gains for this intake are at a high rpm, you tell me how it benefits truck owners. Maybe this is a question for somebody who actual works at HPS instead of it's "concerned customers".

right now a bunch of people are trying to say that the 5.4 mustang intake is gonan be the same one as the truck and that's not the case.

the truck 5.4 intake will have longer runners (for more low end in theory) WHEN I GET AN INTAKE FROM HPS I will test it in the real world and then people can decide for themselves if it will be useful for thier application

The 4.6 version is $695. I'm personally hoping the 5.4 version, being a larger casting which inherently costs more to produce, will be no more than $795. *Disclaimer* I have no idea what the price will be and have nothing to do with it. */Disclaimer*

To SMIGGS, Edelbrock is about 1000x larger than HPS, so comparing the two is meaningless. That being said, which one of them responded to market demand and is sticking their neck out to help enthusiasts? Might want to cut 'em a little slack.....

So if they are "sticking out their neck to respond to the market demand", I take it they have recieved 1000's of "interest" e-mails by now? Just curious.

Well, until we see some numbers from tarajerame or from any other source, they aren't helping anyone right now. As for cutting them some slack, please find where I state for anyone NOT to "show interest" or "buy" this product.

And that's all I, and others, have asked. Keep us posted!

Hmm.....from the limited conversations I had with them I didn't get that take on it, I thought there was only one casting. Need to check on that....

SMIGGS, you obviously just need to sit back and wait for the dyno results. I know from experience that this intake will fit my combination much better than the stock intake, which has far too long of runners to ever work well in a performance build. Torque peaks very low and drops off quickly, in order to really build a strong powerband you need to shift the peak torque rpm higher, and thats where runner length comes in. You WILL lose a small amount of low end torque, thats physics with a shorter runner. However, in my truck the 1-2 and 2-3 shift drop to about 3500 rpm, so why the hell do I want a torque peak at 2500? A lot of guys have added gears and/or torque converter and won't even notice a small loss at very low rpm because from a dead punch you are above that in a second anyway. I've personally tested the extreme for runner length on a 5.4, the Reichard Racing intake sitting on adapter plates. Even with only ~6" of runner length it only lost like 20 ft-lbs down low, and thats with an intake with a terrible short turn radius where it turns down to the head sitting on top of adapter plates that add another jog to the airflow. If that runner length could have been run with a smooth air path the loss would have been even less, the 5.4 has such a long stroke and therefore such high piston acceleration speeds that it gets the air charge moving more efficiently than many engines, making it less sensitive to shorter runners on the low end. The trick then, is to take that torque and carry it out to a higher rpm, you won't do that with ~20 inch runners like the stock intake. I'm hoping this intake will make a decent, worthwhile bolt-on for a mild combo, but of course the potential is far greater on a more serious build with ported heads and cams, thats where it will shine.

I hate to come off like I'm trying to sell them, I'm just excited about the prospect a what a real intake option would mean to performance 5.4 builds....

Me too. I'm very interested to see what this intake can do, espcially in a near stock application.
