There's a saying in Boone County, if you can't catch em, let em fly.

I have a 97 f150 4.6, 5-speed manual, 4x4 off-road package, 33" pro-comps, tow package and have 125,000 miles on her. She still has plenty of umpf to do anything the big boys are doing. I just had to do my first repair on her this weekend that did not involve routine maintenance (plugs, wires, brakes, tires). I finally had to replace the alternator. The only complaint I have is my fuel mileage. I only get around 12-14 MPG....Oh well I could get 5MPG and I still wouldn't drive anything else!!!!!!!!!!!

Thumbs up

Finally hit the 100,000 mile mark about a month ago heading to GA to do some ATV'ing. I have had no problems. 2 sets tires, 1 set brake pads, 1 battery (last week). Getting ready for the famous plug and wire change, but can't decide on what brand yet. Prabably motorcraft wires and either autolite plats or irridium (SP?) plugs. Going to try and do the 3.55 to 4.56 gear change before Fast Ford weekend in Bristol (Aug). Biggest complaint? Not enough h.p.! (4.6) But the chip helped and I expect the gear change will really wake it up !

You say you are getting 32 mpg ? What are you doing, driving all down hill?

But seriously what type of things have you done to your truck that has helped your MPG?

I thought I was doing good at 17 but I'd kill for your milage.

161,000 on my '97 4.2L. Rearend replaced at 120,000. One set of plugs and wires, one set of slotted and drilled rotors, three sets of tires. Oil and filter changed every 4,000 until 130,000, now every 3,000. One belt replaced but the old one looked okay. All else original.

98 2wd Expedition

OK here is mine. 130,000 very tough miles. Started driving this truck at 70,000 when we purchased the wife a new Expedition. I know it's only a 2wd, however I go everywhere my buddies and their 4wd's go at our deer lease. The limited slip axle makes all the difference in the world. What have I done....nothing.....I add 1 can of freon to the A/C each summer, the engine came on one time, went off a wek later, other than that, I drive this SUV like a ranch truck. Best vehicle I've ever owned.
Now I will have problems after writing this...................

200000 Mile Club

I have a '92 F-150 4x4 w/5.0 engine. I bought it from the original owner at 169,000 miles, he used it as a work truck. He rebuilt the tranny and when I bought it, it had been in an accident and the tranny was cracked so I upgraded to the E40D, very happy with it! Before I drove it I replaced the spark plugs with autolite triple platinums which I have not seen anymore, the plug wires with ford racing 9mm wires. Front and rear driveline u-joints since I had the drivelines resized for the bigger tranny. Did the Front and rear brakes and all new fluids. I now have 217,000 miles on it three years later and drive it out of town without worrying about getting stranded. In fact I like driving my truck on the freeway better than my 98 Honda Passport which has less than half the mileage. I replaced the driver side upper and lower balljoints a couple of years ago and the alternator bearing started to squeak about 20k miles ago so I upgraded to a 130 amp alternator. I installed a full tow package and tow a 30' travel trailer locally from time to time. I replaced my rear differential 3.55 with a 3.55 limited slip, the original had no problems and will use for a trailer I am building. The limited slip diff has a whine above 15 mph and gets louder with speed, I haven't had a chance to check it, I may just need to adjust the pinion nut. I run 31" tires and am very happy with my truck. Needs a little love but the engine is completely original. I have been cleaning out some sensors that had carbon and it is running better and using less fuel. Last I checked it I got 16.3 mpg on the freeway doing 70 mph for 220 miles. It used to give me 12 mpg! I would like to get a bit more low end power out of it and am considering installing a good quality set of long tube headers, I have a 3" pipe the cat rotted off and the muffler has 2.5" pipe inside. The sound is good, not loud. Any suggestions?

100,000 miles

Guys

I am sad to report that my engine let go last Tuesday. I broke the neck of the intake valve on cylinder #4. I have to replace my engine. I had 166,051 on my 2000 5.4L Lariat. The new motor is in and will be installed in the truck today. The upside is I have a new truck (essentially). I am looking forward to getting 100,000 miles plus out of this motor. I hope you guys don't kick me out of the club because of this

Turned 190k last week. Still has power to boot with the 4.6. I'm still the original owner since May 1996 on this truck. Just finished with all fluid replacements last month. Installed the ford racing pumpkin cover on the rear diff. The old one was rusting away, besides, it looks good. Do have some vibration when braking. tried changing the u-joint, no help. Just had the pulley replaced for the a/c compressor, the old one was about one day from disintegrating and taking the engine with it. No warning about it either. Just quit on the hottest day in the Poconos. Time for another oil change though. Still get about 14mpg around town, even when responding to the ambulance station.

Mods.
K&N FIPK original style
Gibson Super Truck Cat-Back out in front of the rear wheel like stock.
Superchips 1715
Ford Racing Wires
Denso Iridiums
MSD Coil Packs
Flex-a-lite E-fans
