Who is in the 100,000 mile club?
Ford
4.6L=281
5.0L=302
5.8L=351
and so on
Chevy
5.0L=305
5.3L=327
5.7L=350
The basic formuls is 61 cubic inches of displacement per liter
But each manufacturer will either round up or down depending on how they want to market the engine. Chevy made the 5.0L a 305 as opposed to Ford's 302 because of marketing strategy, i.e wanting to say they had the bigger engine and vice versa with the 5.7L and 5.8L

Even though this is an engine forum and not a marketing forum and pretty much everyone including me thought we were talking with some admiration about our old (100K mile plus) Fords in this thread I defer to your voluminous posting history and consider myself, um, corrected.
I just turned 112,000 miles on my early 97. I bought used just over 3 years ago. Wasnt aware of the gasket failure when I bought the truck or probably wouldn't have bought it. Of course the 1st thing I did was change the gaskets. They were probably already done but wasnt going to take that gamble. I use the Castrol Syntec oil and have recently started running the high octane fuel in it. The fuel change alone made a world of difference. Going to be putting a waterpump in next week and seafoaming the engine. Thanks to this forum I have learned alot of extras to do to keep it running strong.. Thanks everyone for your knowledge.
You go get a sea snake, whip it madly about (being careful not to get yourself bitten) until it starts puking a greenish foam and shove it in your intake manifold.
By some accounts it actually rolls back your mileage and cures the common cold.
For best results, you should also have a turbonator professionally installed at Sears just prior to inducing the foaming sea snake, that way the scientifically engineered spiral fins will aid in breaking up the foaming sea snake so it goes through your engine faster.

I did it. It was a little difficult getting everything, but I was able to do it.. it went from 188k miles to 100k which is sweet.. and it's running better than ever, I'm even getting 32 mpg. I love it thanks for the info Yo..!!

This is hard for ME to believe...my 2001 5.4 Lariat Super Crew w/ 140,000 + miles just towed my boat (4600lbs) back from the beach (5 hours) on less than a tank (21 gals)...took back roads all the way, so not pushin' to Interstate speeds...tach stayed mostly between 2-2500 unless hills...am I happy w/ this truck??...
...yeah, pretty much...
