I'm ashamed of myself. I seem to have gained weight this week in spite of a lot more physical activity. From a starting point of 183 I went to 189 (different scale, might be inaccurate) with a goal of 165. Seems like with this thread started, all I can think about is food. I pigged out all day yesterday at my sister and b-i-l's house while watching football. My sis thinks it's an honor to fatten me up and she even sent leftovers home with me along with a baked ziti. Not her fault though, she never held a gun to my head and forced me to eat.

One thing I have learned about weighing yourself.....always use the same scale, in the same place (i.e. bathroom floor) make sure the scale is on a hard surface (not a carpet) and always weigh yourself at the same time each day. If you dont, there will be too much variation in your weigh in which could be very dissapointing at times.

Bighersh's post helped me alot. I kept getting us mixed up but now I know that he is the one with the nice SUV and I am the one with the crappy studio apt.

As I have told you guys, I lost about 12 lbs. in the first two weeks of my diet. In the following week and a half or so, I have not cheated once and continue to work out. My weight loss however was signaficanlty decreased or stopped. My theory is that the initial "shock" to my system let me drop some weight quickly but now it will be more of a slow and steady ride. Maybe habibi will see similar results and if others do too, don't get discouraged. I'm still trying.

ginseng is great stuff, it does give you a little bit more energy and speeds up the metabolism a bit. It's not bad for you like ephedra either. Chromium Picolinate tablets are supposed to be a good thing to take if you are working out in addition to dieting.

okay, I'm game. I'm 6'2'' - 236lbs and a fat bastard. Last year I had gotten up to 267. Doctor discovered my thyroid was off and started meds for that, blood pressure and chloresterol (stopped recently because my levels were great - have to be retested this week). Had just bought my first pair of 44's when things turned around, back in a size 40 now. I really would like to go after the other 36lbs and reach 200 - I think if I can do that I can toss the blood pressure medicine. Besides, it's hard to find a 40/34 in pants- almost impossible. 38/34 everywhere but 40/34's are hard to find.

I do weigh myself everyday, otherwise I'll slip to far out. I had cut my carb intake last year just not full blown Atkins - need to go back to that routine. Water and excerise really is the key just not running - my knees can't take it anymore - doc said he'd be replacing the left one if I didn't stop abusing it (surgery a few years ago). Back to walking the dog more often I guess, he'll like that.

I ain't giving up beer though, hell this weight loss thing is why I switched to Miller Lite last year. After the third six pack I was wondering when you got a buzz off the sh@t, now I guess I'm getting somewhat used to it. I'll just TRY to cut down the frequency...

I'm going to try the ginseng tablets after I lose my first 10-15 lbs. And lift light weights on the side to help my metabolism. I'll let you guys know how it goes. My goal weight is 220 because of my build, I look to sickly if I go under that.

I am joining late, I am 42 and 338 two weeks ago, I am now at 332, thats 6 pound loss so far!

I have had dibeties for 15 years now and I have a host of problems from it!!
I have a hard time even to work on my own truck these days!! And can't do somethings cause the nerve damage in my hands and legs.

I joined a gym and I have been going 3 times a week and walking 3 miles a day on the thread mill. I was off this week as my wife is in the hosiptal and was to busy to go.

I got married 24 years ago and I was 220 at that time and felt good.
My goal is to at least get under 300 for the frist time in 20 years then go from there!

My buddy is a body builder and is going to sign on as my trainer.

He wants me to drink 6 High protine drinks a day and 2 meals.
Says I should be taking in at least my body weight in protine grams a day and watch the Carbs.

He has been doing this for 20 years, and has 4% body fat!!

I am not headed there!! But I would like to at some point get to 250.

I will let you no how its going! Great thread!!

No wonder we all drive Trucks!!

I think you nailed it on the head.
When I started, I lost almost 8 pounds from Fri - Mon morning, giving me a first week loss of 14.6 pounds.

I'm on week 2 now, and have only lost 1 pounds from Friday, but the week 'aint over yet!

Ive been to the gym every day (today was my 7th day in a row) and I give her hard, 100%.

I think you are correct...
you're body decides when it's time to let go, not you.
Every day I'm at the gym, I keep telling myself "every action has a equal reaction" I know it's not in vain.

bedsides dude, if your photo is accurate to how you look, you don't look like a heffer anyway.
The revolver makes you look slimmer (IMHO) I think with you wearing that, you would here much less wise-cracks like "hey porky" or, "what's going on slim"

I looked pretty slim too holding a 42 inch baton and an Ar-15.

Good luck man, I'm sure you're gonna do great.

I'm not trying to throw stones here. I had not stepped on a scale in 6 months. My friend asked if I had lost weight.

I thought my belt was stretching before he asked and I said no. His scale was the same as I last weighed in on at 225. I weigh now at 205. I had the flu a month ago and have been eating 2/3 of usual since.

I don't know if eating less is the cause or not of the seemingly quick weight loss. I still drink about the same amount of beer.

I made an appointment with the Dr. to make sure everything is alright.

You all have my support in your efforts. Keep up the GREAT work, it will pay dividends in the end.

Later

Keep plodding along guys. Your metabolism will settle down to a more methodical loss after the initial drop, don't let it discourage you. I have no progress to report. I really need to buy a scale and see just where I am at. I am pretty sure before I started I was up around 190. Considering I'm only 5'3" that's a lot. I'm probably down to 135ish now and would like to get down to about 125 (my weight when I got married). Since this June is my 25th wedding anniversary I'd like to say I can still fit into my wedding dress by then! Am I required to post a before picture? Since I have almost reached my goal? I will post one if it will help give y'all some incentive as to what can be accomplished.

BTW, it is so cool to see all the pictures, faces to go with names!! Can't wait to see all the after pics!!!

They do have very similar haircuts. I can see where there might be some confusion

Don't get discouraged guys if your 2nd weeks weight loss is not as good as the first week. A lot of that initial loss is water and the weight of food in your stomach.
Keep up the exercise so you are losing fat and not muscle.

....plus as your exercising more and developing "old" muscles just remember, muscle weighs more than fat. So you could be losing inches which is a better thing.

Absolutely! That is why I wanted to reweigh myself at home & compare it to what I was at the doctor's office.

I weighed myself last night & was 206 (only a pond different from the drs). I did my ab video last night as well as some weight training for my back. Tonight will be the butt/thigh video & more weight training. I figure if I will alternate between those 2 videos during the week & do Tai Chi videos on the weekends to stay in the habit.

Problem is I feel like I'm starving today, damn PMS. I was able to stop myself from snarffing too much down at lunch today.

rdy2rac,

Food intake is very important when trying to loose weight. Check out this website for some pretty interesting tips:

http://www.intense-workout.com/weight_loss.html

I personally like #4
4) Instead of eating 3 big meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner), or eating all day all the time, spread those calories out over 5 smaller meals. Eat one meal every 2 and a half to 3 hours. Doing this will speed up your metabolism.
