passed out on floor by half time and miss the rest of the game...
Here is my before picture. I have been dieting for about three weeks and have lost 13 pounds so far. My goal weight is 220 and am currently 237. I was going to go shirt off but decided to spare you guys (and myself from dezervits wrath.)
Hey kojack, if you really wanted to save yourself from my wrath you would have cropped out your unique decor.
Awwww just messin' with you. I wish I only had 17lbs to lose. This week's weigh-in is going to blow big chunks - only made it to the gym once, ate naughty, stress at work, and almost died last night. I got KofC Honey BBQ wings & chocolate cake. Yummy, but not good for the waistline. Next week will hopefully be better.

I didn't even know I had a "decor" but I wouldn't know how to crop it out anyway. I think its very sophisticated looking.
Lets see your "decor" dezervit. (Cathedral ceiling I'm sure so that you can stand up straight.

I, too, am on this trip.
I'm 40, 5'10", 205#, mostly below the ribcage it seems
.
I really appreciate what a lot of you guys are saying about whats working for you. I too am trying moderation with increasing the exercise.
I have 4 boys, 12-9-7 and 2. About 3 months ago I was playing with them and realized how much out of breath I was. Then I realized that I could not be around for them if I kept this up.
I really felt the weight thing crept up on me! Used to be I could quit eating for a bit and lose lbs like that. Now, I look at food and click off a pound or two.
One thing that is going to force me down this road of weight loss is a change at work of all things. We have started a wellness program that will look at EVERYTHING in our lives-extensive bloodwork, fitness, body fat, etc. Everything gets documented. Honestly, I am scared to death at what I am going to find out. But they will then develop a plan for me to follow to improve my health-exercise, strength training, diet, etc.
I am already working on some of that (walks, stairclimbing, no 2nds at meals, what I am eating). I agree on the food stuff though-you have to get it away from you. My wife buys a lot of what I call convenience foods. Prepackaged crap that is convenient to throw in the kids lunchboxes. Now she is a stay at home mom, and works harder than I do. Its a delicate issue to try and change some of those behaviors, but I am trying. Lead by example.
But, I am only human. And here in SoCal, where there is a taco shop on every corner, right now as I write this I am CRAVING a carne asada burrito for the trip home from work. Hey, its a long drive, right? Its only one burrito, right? I can skip another meal later today, right? I deserve it, right? Hell, got to eat, right? See what I mean...
So to all my fellow posters, I wish us the best of luck. I am with ya'll-Habibi, we'll be following, and pulling, for you.
(uh, no butter please...)

I was trying to read this thread but it was growing a page for every page I read!!! Bugger!!! I lost a bunch of weight on Atkins...like 45lbs. I was down to 185 or so. I was exercising 30 minutes a day and eating less than 50 grams of carbs a day.
I gained about 30lbs back because I fell off the wagon so to speak. I quit exercising and started in again on the breads/sugars etc. You have to adjust the carb intake in regards to your activity level. If you sit on your butt all day then you really can't eat anything that will spike your blood sugar. If you exercise, you can allow yourself more given the amount of exercise and frequency.
Now the fat thing... Eating "fat" won't make you "fat" it affects your cholesterol levels. And cholesterol is an interesting topic in and of itself....since there is good and bad cholesterol. I did one of those at home cholesterol tests and I was around 120....which is about as low as you can get. I think that may be partly hereditary so someone else may not do as well on a "high fat" diet as I. It's all about blood chemestry, activity and WILL POWER.
South Beach looks heathier than Atkins from a nutritional standpoint but you may not lose weight as fast. I was taking a multivitamin and the essential fatty acid tablets to fill the gaps in a high protein diet.
I don't post much so any response to this will be in vain LOL...I was trying to provide information only. Good luck to the folks that want to lose weight...it is your best interest if you do

Ok, didn't have the greatest week (Damn those business lunches
)
I went out last night and bought a set of fancy schmancy scales which measure body fat too.
This Monday's figures

Body Fat 38%
I think most of that is my head.
Oh well, onwards and upwards. Or downwards as the case may be.

Dzervit's Week 1 results: -4lbs. Don't ask me how, I only made it to the gym once and ate naughty several days. However, I did try to keep up on small frequent meals during the day. Goooooooo metabolism!!!!
Just a side note folks, anyone thinking of doing the Atkins diet, buy the book written by Dr. Atrkins himself and do it right. Lots of people out there that think b/c they eat few/ no carbs they are on the Atkins diet and wonder why they don't lose weight. Doing the Atkins diet the right way is a lot harder than it looks. JMHO
Anyway, I had a bad weekend eating but I did manage to hit the gym twice this weekend despite all the snow.
