The simple answer is that these engines are FAULTY and ford knows this, they cannot afford to do anything about them therefor not taking responsibility.

THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED!!!
so in your theory, Fram and other faulty filter companies should be paying for these engines that they ruin???

and you probbaly agree with suing the gun companies that manufactured firearms used in crimes...

Sell the damn thing if you can't handle it,- and move on, I ain't gonna wipe your tears. What do want
I guess you would know about freaks, but anyhow.... i would call a 5.4 3v that hasn't had any issues the "freak". Plus if the ford could half-*** hold its resale value it wouldn't be a bad idea to "sell it and move on". I gotta admit tho, you sure know alot about things from a forum. must be nice to fly over the post all day.

p.s. its hard to sell a truck in which its engine is known to be defective.

Just because you have been lucky with Fram filters in the past, doesn't mean that your luck will never run out. Guess what, - it has.

Okay so here is an update on my nightmare. The dealer just called me and said the inspector did not find anything again which is exactly what the service manager at Ford told me would happen. Since they can't actually find anything wrong with my truck besides the slight tapping noise that is still there they are refusing to authorize anymore work on my truck. I would call and b**** the warranty guy out again, but I know it's not going to get me anywhere. They know that my warranty is up next February so they are just hoping and praying that my truck does not mess up between now and then so they will be off the hook. The service guy at Ford told me I should get an engine flushing kit and try that out to see if it unclogs those oil galley's. So I got my phasers replaced and all my lifters, but still have a slight tap. At this point I'm just tired and want my truck back. I will get a Lucas engine flushing kit and try that out myself this weekend to see if maybe that helps. Anyone who is using a Fram oil filter on these trucks STOP immediately or else you might go through what I have gone though and come out with your a** hurting.

Okay guys I have been doing a little bit of research about engine flushing. I am not seeing positive feedback regarding this. Any input guys? Should I just not touch my motor and hope that it lasts me?

I was reading on another site where this guy said to put one quart of transmission fluid in your engine and drive around for about an hour. Then change your oil he said something about the solvents in the tranny fluid not being as harsh as the actual engine flushing lubricants. This just doesn't sound right to me though.

The safest and most effective "flush" is AutoRX.

http://www.auto-rx.com/

Follow the instructions.

jbrew it says to add one full bottle of that stuff to the crankcase. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but do I just pour it in where the oil goes or do I have to take something apart?

So okay they are going to replace my phasers and lifters. It has been 7 days and they finally finish up with the phasers and lifters and call me today to tell me that my truck is still making the tapping noise. So now they have to call back my extended warranty company to find out what to do now at this point. At this point I honestly think that the only fix would be to replace the whole long block. I love my truck and have spent thousands on it and its my baby but jesus I am never going to buy something again that has only been out for a year and the bugs have not been worked out. My build date for the truck shows October of 04. I really love Ford and have owned Mustangs, Rangers and now my first F150. I am definitely considering possibly getting a Chevrolet if these problems keep happening. Below is a list of things that I have had to replace so far on the truck.

Window Master Control switch
Blower motor resistor
Fuel Injector
Transmission Problems
Now my engine at only 64,000 cmon really????
TX05F150,
I do ALOT of these 5.4l 3valve engines..... In fact i am the only one in my dealership that will do them..... If you want the tapping noise gone have the dealership replace the timing chain tensioners and both vct solenoids complete with the valve bodys...... and your noise will be gone..... I run into this quite a bit..... tapping noise and phasers do not fix it....... The timing chain tensioner o-ring gasket blows out the back of the tensioner and bleeds of oil pressure, allowing slack in the timing chain. The vct solenoid valave bodys get clogged with debris not allowing necessary oil pressure to the cam phasers...... The cam phasers only need 25 psi of oil pressure to operate but will be slighty noisy. Anyway that will fix your tapping noise....... trust me, been there many, many times....... good luck and keep your F150...... Trust me on this too....... Chevys are not ANY Better !! Bob
