I completely agree. Definitely what I would do.

I highly doubt I am going to have any say so in what I get. I will try and mention it though I'm just worried about getting a used motor. How in the hell am I supposed to know what kind of shape its in?

Don't settle for used. That's your only option.

since your the know-it-all on the forum i wanted to ask you this...

how many of these engines have the same problem with the motorcraft filter? I know of one, but i figured you would have the answer or at least think you know the answer.
The simple answer is that these engines are FAULTY and ford knows this, they cannot afford to do anything about them therefor not taking responsibility.

THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED!!!

Recalls are done for safety reasons. An owner not using the proper oil filter is no reason for a recall.

Why? Because a few are having issues. Yeah, I won't have a 5.4 because of the problems with it but there are many, many, on the road with no issues. Would you expect to see GM recall all of their V8 engines as well? They have issues with the plastic intakes cracking and dropping the radiator into the pistons. Don't see Gov't Motors stepping up there. Or Dodges Hemi that can leave you in the middle of nowhere when the drive by wire fails or the PCM dies, or when the life expectancy of the auto transmission is only 80,000 miles. Don't see recalls there either. While we would like to think that Ford makes the best, and I think they do, they are not without problems. Anything that man has anything to do with will never be perfect. Be it Fram, Motorcraft, Ford, GM, the list is endless. At least it sounds like the dealership is attempting to help in this situation. But in regards to a new engine, that would be dandy but is it a new engine that died or are you expecting a new engine so that it will last you longer? Gotta think about what is the right thing to do for you and for Ford.

So time for another update and its not a good one. The inspector finally made it out to the dealership yesterday morning and he listened to the motor and agreed that it is still making the tapping noise. He faxed all of his paperwork to the warranty company and I finally got in touch with the warranty company and did not like what I heard. The guy at the warranty company was basically putting pointing the finger back at Ford saying that they did not diagnose my truck properly the first time. The dealership is saying that they told the inspector I needed a new engine, but that the warranty company wanted to take the cheap way out and just replace the phasers and lifters to see if that did the trick. I at this point have no clue who to believe. My truck has now been sitting at the dealership now for 2 weeks and has maybe only had 2 total days worth of work done on it. The guy at the warranty company was making it sound like they have already spent $3000 on the first repair which did nothing and are unwilling at least that's the way he made it sound to replace my motor. This is now getting ugly!!!! So now at this point the warranty company wants to send another inspector out for the 3rd time to look at the motor with the valve covers removed to see if they can spot anything. The service manager at Ford said they can send whoever they want because they are not going to find anything because he is 99% sure that the oil passages are clogged and he said some of those can be the size of a pin head. Meanwhile I had a rental this week which expired this morning from the warranty company "5 days" and they will not extend it. The service manager was nice enough to put me in a rental for a few more days and cover it. I just do not know what to do anymore... I mean the warranty company has to replace my motor if that's what it takes. My contract with the warranty company states "The aggregate total of Our liability for all benifits pad or payable during the term of this Contract shall not exceed the actual cash value of Your Vehicle at time of purchase. THEY HAVE TO FIX THE ISSUE NO MATTER IF THEY HAVE WASTED $3000 GRAND ON A REPAIR THAT DID NOT WORK! Sorry guys for the novel here I am just really stressed out and in a situation where I feel that I am sort of helpless.

I thought you guys might think this was funny too. I am looking at the radar right now and we might be getting some hail or the course of the next few days. I have a carport at home but my truck is not covered at the dealership. I swear this would just be the cherry on top. I already had to get my truck fixed for golf ball size hail about 2 years ago!

Have your lawyer call the warranty rep and see what happens.

Yeah I have way too much time and money invested in her to give up. I just keep telling myself that something good has to come out of all this. If I end of getting a new motor I will be extatic and I will forget about this nightmare. My truck and I have a love hate relationship!
