Angry Ford Tough????

So I have an 05 F150 FX4 with 64,000 miles and my truck developed the infamous tapping. So I take my truck in to Ford and they pull everything apart and call me and say my cam phasers are definitely bad and that my aftermarket oil filter was most likely the cause. So okay they are going to replace my phasers and lifters. It has been 7 days and they finally finish up with the phasers and lifters and call me today to tell me that my truck is still making the tapping noise. So now they have to call back my extended warranty company to find out what to do now at this point. At this point I honestly think that the only fix would be to replace the whole long block. I love my truck and have spent thousands on it and its my baby but jesus I am never going to buy something again that has only been out for a year and the bugs have not been worked out. My build date for the truck shows October of 04. I really love Ford and have owned Mustangs, Rangers and now my first F150. I am definitely considering possibly getting a Chevrolet if these problems keep happening. Below is a list of things that I have had to replace so far on the truck.

Window Master Control switch
Blower motor resistor
Fuel Injector
Transmission Problems
Now my engine at only 64,000 cmon really????

you should be covered under ford's extended fuel injector warranty if it comes to that.

im just curious where do you have the truck at? I used to live right down the street from Maxwell Ford on S I35

A misdiagnosis by your dealer doesn't mean your engine is bad.

It's not Fords fault, you ran an aftermarket oil filter that is not recommended.

Please buy another product, I really doubt Ford wants to pay for your mistakes.

Consider yourself lucky at what they've done for you so far. You should be thanking them and taking your lumps; learning from this. So buy a Chevy, That's the answer

It depends on exactly which aftermarket filters. Motorcraft filters are made by Purolator - anything made by Purolator or Wix is okay. It's Frams that you have to watch out for - the "orange can of death" and rebranded filters based on the cheap Fram design. The premium Frams seem to be okay.

Right, But ? If Fords pointing the finger, I have a pretty good idea what he's been running. Orange can of slow agonizing death.

I'd compression test for curiosity and to see how far gone it is. The test may pass, but how low are the numbers and how do they fall per cylinder.

Did they remove the serp belt and listen if the noise is gone? If the tapping noise is in the engine it should be easy to locate and diagnois. Why did they change the lash adjusters if they were so sure it was the phasers?

in my opinion the people to blame are some mechanics and dealers, they dont know SH.........., they make you spend thousand of dollars and the trucks still with problems if there are some.

I agree that the issue is somewhat my fault for not using the motorcraft oil filter, but hell how was I supposed to know and don't say you should have followed the manual. That's a crock of . I have only used Fram filters in both my older 5.0's and my Ranger which now has 175,000 still running strong. If these filters are so bad for our trucks why are we not told this by the dealers or anyone else?? Ford give me a new motor and I promise I will only use Motorcraft oil filters.

You should of followed the manual. Hell Ford even has stickers under the hood for those who don't read manuals. It's not a crock! You pointing the finger elsewhere is definitely one.

Just because you have been lucky with Fram filters in the past, doesn't mean that your luck will never run out. Guess what, - it has.

So jbrew let me get this straight. We the consumers must use what the manufactur calls for on our vehicles? We have no say so on what parts can be used on our vehicles and if we use these parts our trucks are going to crap out. That is pretty much what you are saying. Please correct me if I am wrong. I didn't come on here to argue with anyone just wanted to vent because of all the problems I have had with my truck just in the last 6 months. I have learned one thing though I will never use Fram again!

Fram filters do not have the anti-drain back valve, thus causing the filter to not hold its oil, and dry start. This is what causes the problems.
