First of all, you shouldn't speak for "we the consumer". Speak for yourself only because it boils down to a choice you made. Where the average consumer might believe that using replacement parts that the manufacturer of their vehicle suggests, should be and is the best regimen to follow. I mean, they did build the damn thing, so..... Yea.
If your not sure of what you're doing, don't you think that would be the best choice ? It can be even cheaper doing so. In your case presently, much cheaper. Yea don't say we, for it is "you" that made the mistake.

Your corrected.

That is one very important thing for sure. They can't even make a OEM replacement PCV valve within spec and their air filters (the cone) can fall apart leaving you unaware of such until the next time for service.

At least you learned something, sucks what happened and learning the way you have.

There is other after market parts that work well in our trucks, but you have to know which ones. The tolerances are much tighter today than they use to be. That's why grade/viscosity with engine oil is so crucial for any kind of longevity. Using a oil filter with such a high rate of DBV failure isn't any good either.

If you don't know, safest bet is letting the dealership service. Sometimes they can service cheaper than you can. Depends on the deals they have at the present time.

I can't believe your not understanding correctly.

Yeah I unfortantely heard about the anti drain back valve after the damage was done I guess the situation could be worse I could not have purchased an extended warranty and be paying for this all out of my pocket. I'm just going to start changing the oil on my truck myself and only use Motorcraft oil filters. I trust myself as opposed to taking it to Walmart or a Jiffy Lube and nothing against the dealer I just cant leave my truck there all day just to get an oil change that would only take me maybe 30 minutes to do.

I guess you didn't read the post from before where I said I wasn't trying to argue with anyone on here. I definitely am not the first person to have this problem and I will not be the last. However, I do see your point on just how sensitive these engines can be and will be more careful in the future as to what parts I purchase.

First, Ford doesn't say that you have to use Motorcraft, they say you have to use a product that meets the specs they specify. The Fram does not.

Secondly, my dealer does my oil change in 30 minutes and charges me $25 plus the disposal fee. I can't do it myself for much less than that and will take longer.

Bluejay I will trade you dealers lol Some people have good luck with dealers in their area and some don't. It's unfortunate that every dealership is different.

Fram needs to take these filters off the shelf. That will probably never happen though, so I will do my part in steering people with newer F150's away from those death cans.

The death cans do have a DBV, it's just that they are made from cardboard and don't work too well. Fram also makes a premium filter with a silicone DBV that works fine, I think those filters are white instead of orange.

I think Fram needs to be held responsible for their filters. I've read several stories on this site of Fram filters coming apart and starving the engine of oil.

I have always been curious as to who makes the filters at the lube joints. You know they are probably very low end quality.

A lot of those unbranded filters are made by Fram.

Yep, that is what I suspect. The ones I have seen were white with no label.

Fram filters DO have an anti-drain valve. It is just not a very good one.

Well still no word from the dealership. Last time I heard from them was this past Thursday when they replaced the phasers and lifters and said it didn't fix the problem. I am curious as to what they will come up with now.
