Neal runs GMS cops. I was just giving him a hard time because he wrote Coil Packs instead of COPs.

Black smoke is unburnt fuel. What caused the fuel not to burn? Did the the PCM shut down? Faulty wiring, ie: poor ground. Faulty coil? The PCM individually grounds the coils to fire the plugs. If the PCM grounds are not clean that can misfire the plugs. I would isolate all of the PCM grounds and make sure every one is sound. I would also check the PCM connector to be sure all the pins are tight and clean. What model year PCM are you using? The 5.4 PCM typically uses 5 grounds. They all go to G101 on the firewall next to the 4x4 solenoids. There are two grounds there. One to the battery and one for the PCM. The PCM relay uses G104 behind the driver headlight on the rad support. If any of these grounds are intermittent that can reek havoc with the PCM. A glitch in the tune or sticking Fuel Injectors?

Regards

Man, if mine were running, I'd make the 4 hr. drive just to see you two. Boss, what do you think about those Dynomax Bullets? What cats? Did you ever run it straight pipes before the longtubes?

ive got the pacesetter lt's without any cats full 3 in into 3" bullets dumped in front of rear passenger tire..i love the bullets only because i like loud exhaust..its actually not as raspy as i thougt it would be and it sounds great at cruising rpms...little droning in low rpms because of where its dumped

Thanks, I just wondered what kind of difference they made. I have been running stock manifolds with the 2 primary cats to straight pipe dumped for year and wouldn't have it any quieter. I'm hoping I can still get away with straight pipes with the longtubes...we'll see. If not I figured the "loudest" muffler would be the Bullets or the 10" bodied Maggie.
