Patrick , it boils down to this - If you have a two factory rides, new from the manufacturer , say two 03 models like yours, one with a 5.4L and the other with a 4.6L.
Run em... - The 5.4 will dominate from the green light.

That's the hard facts.

You can Mod either motors to perform, but to out-perform the 5.4L , you have to out-mod it..

 

03 from the factory, they will run dead even... Ive said it before...

5.4 has more torque, and the 4.6 makes more power up top. When you race you are 3k and up... Wheres the 5.4 power band again? 1500-2500.... See my point yet?

lol, the 4.6 makes power? not in a freakin truck man... sure, it makes the v8 baby rumble and tows dirtbikes and your lawnmower trailer fine but thats about it.

god i cant wait for my 5.4 to be finished. gonna send it off to a machine shop for some prep work.

 

yeah it may be all that... maybe if i was still running a stock ratio...

if you had a memory retention longer than faster150's intelligence level you might remember im running 4.88's... making my gear ratio more equiv to a truck that had the 3.55's running stock tires and 4.10 gears. not exact but closer.

 

Klitch , when you get that blown 5.4L in that truck w/4.88's , I bet you'll be air born when you hit it on dry pavement , locked in

well assuming both drivers are good enough to launch at around 3,000 rpms then the 5.4 is just barely out of his power band, and the 4.6 is just getting started.... See the point yet?

And klitch i really am not big into the 4x4 scene, so i dunno about remembering every last detail of y'alls trucks... So how far above sea level are you?

Before 98 , I had the 5.0 in a 89 Ford heres some pics I scanned - didn't have a digital camera back then.. -

Also had the limited IROC Z w/the corvette motor 1990 , last year they made them - GM no longer sponsered the International Race Of Champions, they stopped making them after 90..Unfortunatly the car was stolen from my yard in 92...
