Hey LSchicago, I would agree that it would take more than 6psi and exhaust for an r/t to run 13.20's, however the r/t does not cost $31,000 + to start with. If we spend the difference in cost on the r/t it will beat the lightning in the 1/4 mile. I have a 94 dakota that ran 12.48 @ 108 with a 318, blower, heads, cam and converter. It now has a 360 crate motor and ran a best of 12.82 @ 105 on motor and 12.00 @ 113.50 with a 1.83 60'(on motor could not leave on gas) with a 100 shot of gas. Dont get me wrong i like the lightnings and have always been a fan of them , however you seem to talk to much crap about the r/t's. You saying to not to invite them to a shootout as it is a waste of time is ridiculous. Your 13.15 does not seem that fast to me.

FAST DAK,

Nice, fast truck you have...no one would argue that. However, blower, heads, cam, crate motor certainly must cost more than the difference b/w a NEW (not '94 model) R/T and an L.

I don't know what an R/T costs. I never looked at them. But, I'll assume ~$7k difference. Take $3500 for the blower alone. Now you have $3500 to spend. In my previous response to the other R/T guy, I said let the L owner spend $500 and then add that amount to the cash outlay for the R/T as well. So, now the R/T with a blower has $4k to spend. The L @31k+ 500 in mods now runs 13.0-13.2s (no matter the air conditions) on stock tires.

The blown R/Ts I've seen run 14.2-14.4s on ET Streets. They have all done things like new injectors, air meters, exhaust, etc. I don't know how much all this costs for an R/T, but I know from vast experience in modding late model Mustangs that it can get expensive. I'd guess over $1500 there in full exhaust, inj., throttle body, and air meter. That might be a low figure. Point is that there's still a lot of ET to overcome from my perspective, and the L isn't running a sticky tire, either.

Just my $.02. Not trying to nit-pick. I'm just not sure I agree that if you spend the difference in initial cost if the R/T goes quicker...especially if you let the L owner spend another $500.

I DID NOT, REPEAT DID NOT PAY 31 OR 32,000 FOR MY TRUCK! I PAID $28,200 + $425 FOR MODS. = $28,625. It's great that you made your old Dakota run that fast, but the new R/T's have NOTHING on the Lightning. Anybody can take an old vehicle & make it fast cheaply. I have a couple cars that I built. But I also chose to have a fast warranteed vehicle that I don't have to work on. Best bang for my 28,625. Lloyd

i think fast dak makes a good point. you can make a dakota beat a lightning if you: put on a $2500 blower, $500 worth of head work, 200 convertor and probably $1000 worth of other stuff then get rid of that and put in a non-emission 360 crate motor for another $3000 with a $500 nitrous set up,transmission convertor and probably a costly rebuilt trans and convert into a carborator or extensive mods to an efi intake, not to mention either the labor or a couple of nuckle busting weekends and the pain of passing emission testing and state inspection. fast dak, i think you will agree that if anybody is willing to pull motors thats not a good comparison for a chip and an air filter.
on another note,i love those commercial where they state the dakota is the leader in it class. so whats the name of that other vehicle in its class?

BrotherDave, all good points. I have emission testing where I live. They'll suspend your D/L if you don't pass emissions. That's why my heavy modded car is a 73, with antique plates there's no emmision testing. Just what would the cost be to put that 360 crate engine with mods in a new R/T? Dodges new technology engine doesn't seem to respond to mods that well. better yet why don't you guys get dodge to install the hemi, & be the leader of the class. Lloyd

Coolva,He's almost caught up to my truck with $425 worth of parts. If I put $2,300 into my truck, I'd be running low 12's maybe a high 11 with some work. What's your point? Don't even think of telling us that those are his only mods. That's NOT TRUE is it? I'm sure he had some kind of sticky tires at least. probably a lot more mods too. I have a chip, $225 & a filter kit $200. That's it, stock tires, stock exhaust, stock pullys, etc. Everything else is just as Ford built it! 13.15. You R/T boys just don't get it. And probably never will! Lloyd

Cool

The reason I bought this thing, is that it is such a good total package. It rides nice, handles well, tow 5000 lbs and does 13 second 1/4 miles. All in an emissions certified, warranteed vehicle. For the money, NOTHING can touch us.

And it looks a lot better than anything else...

OMG, can't believe someone did that to a Typhoon. Ugh

About those Lightning vs. Dakota R/T prices with mods to get into the 13's. I paid 27,289 for a new L last month. Before I got the L I looked at a R/T club cab with most of the same options as a Lightning and it was stickered at 26,175. I figured I could have had it for around 24,800.

Let's see. Take my L at 27,289. Should run about 13.8 or slightly better. We'll know as soon as break-in is completed.

The R/T? 24,800 plus 5000? to get to the same place plus no warranty.

LSchicago: That is his only mods...
If you think a R/T is never gonna see 12's, peep this... http://www.dragtruk.com/PICS/racecraftelectric01.mpg
Here are his mods
Borla 3" single exhaust
Mopar shorty headers
M-1 intake
fully ported magnum heads
K&N cold air hahat
custom crane cam
underdrive pulleys
Gemini twin nitrous kit (125 shot)
2800 stall
28x12.5 et streets
stock 3:92 gear

There is your proof that an R/T will run with a L..
And you say if you dump how ever much money you spend on a R/T into your L, you will be that much faster, well remember the L is up to $10,000 more.... so the R/T has that advantage...

I've dumped near $4000 in my Dakota, and I have the smaller V8, and a Club Cab.. (its not an R/T) My best time so far is 13.50@101.9... I'm happy as hell... I'm going for the Sleeper Effect... (Who thinks a Silver Dakota is going to be fast? Not even an R/T) The 360 responds to Mods very well... Just 2 weeks ago at the track, there was an R/T with bolt ons, (filter, TB, exhaust, slicks, ect, running 14.3 EVERY TIME, extremely consistant)

I like the L's and all, but dont **** me off about Dodge...
There will always someone faster than you, I tell everyone that, and my self...

Sorry, I had to get that off... It would have bothered me if it didnt....

FWIW, I've met a few L's at the track from the board, they were nice and all... ask them about me... I'm not too bad of a guy.. (and only 19 for goodness sake)

Did I miss something here? All I seen was a burn out what wa his time? With $500 more in mods I'd be in the mid 12's. There's some 11's here too. I bet he spent a lot more than the Lightning owners to get 12's. Lloyd
