Lightning vs syclone/typhoon??
the sad part about the L is there is no direct competition. the closest thing is a 10 years old mini truck and even it is not comparable (small truck, no towing capacity, awd). also dont forget these guys have had 9 to 10 years to come up with parts and make there trucks very fast.
at least when the first lightnings came out there was the 454ss and the 2 where very comparable.
at least when the first lightnings came out there was the 454ss and the 2 where very comparable.
And there doesn't seem to be anything in the near future that is directly comparible. The SS concept that Chevy was going to come out with, was a fullsize that would match up the L in all categories. But they decided not to, probably because they couldn't be cost competitive with the L. So there resorting to the 1/4 ton SSR, that will stand alone, whether it's quicker or slower then the L! Has Chevy gave up the performance battle?! And where's the Camaro going?

This is getting old. _Most_ of us L owners here think the Sy/Ty is neat. Read my previous post on page 1 of this thread.
I have seen one guy that works at the motorplex with a nice white lightning. He said high 13's all stock - that's great, would be me stock vs stock, but mine isn't....just barely...
But the attitudes here are a joke. Keep showing your true colors, gents.
Ty
Hey LSChicago... first of where in chicago are you? I am nw side and i got a Sy and a Ty... Second you say take away the AWD and keep the turbo and then you lose the blower? NOT a valid point there buddy that is like me saying that you need a 5. whatever liter motor to compete with a 4.3... both trucks are fast both trucks are quick both trucks look damn good.... end of story... I saw in another post you were asking about a lightning SyTy getogether? Well I posted on NLOC.org that i was organizing one but it isn't going to be a track i don't like track racing... we are jsut gathering to BS and then if you got some ***** we can set a few street races but... great sport to run right by my house. email me if you are interested in some details but we are still working on it... either way i would love to meet up sometime and check out your truck.
--------------------
They call our trucks ******* trucks cuz we get so damn much in them!

Hey LSchicago, for the $32,000 you paid for your Lightning, and the $25,000 iI paid for my R/T, I couldve went to the store with the extra $7,000 or so got a blower and blew your ignorant a$$ out of the water, an R/T with the same supercharger as a Lightning would beat a Lightning, so keep your mouth shut *****head!!...
King man,
My point regarding "attitudes" was plural...notice I referred to the posters as "gents"...meaning gentlemEn... again, plural. So take it FWIW. I wasn't necessarily referring to you personally.
IMHO, if someone's vehicle is fast, then there's nothing to prove on a bulletin board. Like I said on Page 1...when I bench race, I know my grandmother's wheelchair does 8s in the 1/4.
I know the guy at the M-plex with the white truck. His runs just like mine did when it was stock. $500 later I have a low-13 sec. truck running on stock tires.

Sy1999RT,
The blown R/T vs. STOCK L debate has been gone over ad nauseum in another thread. Bolt up a Vortech blower to your R/T and have fun _attempting_ to bust mid-14s. LOL. Granted, if you can turn wrenches and install it yourself, that will only cost you ~$3000-3500 probably.
Some R/Ts with other mods will get into the 13s, but please go ahead and spend $7k in engine work and see if you can outrun a stock L. You might, but you might not. Better yet spend $7500 and let the L owner spend $500 and I know you won't run low-13s, high-12s on STOCK tires which is what L owners are doing with a new truck and $500 in mods.
No one here minds if you post on _our_ board, but I have to ask...did you get kicked off the R/T board or something? I just have to ask b/c I know I have better things to do than to go troll on other boards.
Have a good one,

I've been thinking, since both trucks have liquid/air IC's - some of our same mods may work for you.
Our stock IC pump sucks period, a cheap replacement which flows 4gpm is readily available.
Where is your IC heat exchanger located? I'm sure a fan could be slapped on the back of it for constant airflow thru the cooler. I got twin 7" fans waiting to go on the back of mine, nice SPAL brand, only 38 bux each. Lemme know what size you think would fit and I'll see if I can get a good price on those.
What about the IC lines? You can wrap them with heat reflective material or change to heater hose if they are metal like ours were.
Just a few ideas...HTH...has anyone tried them?
Ty
Wes, I agree with ya about the SC R/T vs SC Lightning. Those trucks just don't respond at all to mods or something...they sure sound mean
I knew one guy with every bolt on in the world, ran 14.5's. He added a 100 shot and went 13.5's - both runs on DR's. The truck was MAXED OUT...only other mods were internal and probably not cost effective.
So 500 bux in a lightning to go mid 13's = a MAXED out R/T. Maybe under all the members names in the forum instead of "member" it should say "king of R/T's"
Stock vs. Stock - OMG C'mon...Lightning is in the next zip code when the R/T is passing the 60 ft mark.

Ty,
The intercooler for the L is a different type of heat-exchanger than yours, I believe. Ours is sandwiched in b/w the blower and the lower intake. So, there's no way to put an auxilary fan on it at all. The coolant lines run to a small radiator (basically a trans cooler) which is mounted low a few inches in front of the engine's radiator. Now, down here in N. Texas it might very well be worth it to mount a small pusher fan onto this piece. In fact, I think someone has already tried this, but I haven't heard any real results from it.
[Just re-read your post...maybe we're saying the same thing?]
There are no "free" mods to an L that I know of. Basically what everyone is doing (or should do) is add a chip and some sort of air filter/inlet tube kit in front of the MAF or throttle body. This is typically worth ~2psi increase in boost, not b/c the computer limits the boost on our blowers (or at least I don't think it does), but b/c of the extra airflow into the blower itself. The chip makes a HUGE difference in shift quality of the trans, and most people are seeing an extra 25-30hp produced at the rear wheels due to better engine management programming.
This is why the '01 L will have more power. The programming will be more aggressive from the factory. I don't really know if the truck will be any quicker than a slightly modded '99-00.
But, those two mods will cost ~$400-500 and should improve ETs by .5+ and MPH by 2-3...on stock tires. These trucks don't hook as well as an AWD Sy/Ty, but with very little practice I can get 1.9x 60's on stock tires with absolutely no traction devices at all.
So far, most exhaust mods (headers, H-pipe, cat-back) have shown minimal gains, which leads me to believe there is more of a restriction in the heads than anything else. Some guys have been successful in spinning the blower a bit faster with a pulley change, but there is debate on how efficient the stock blower is when you do this. The really fast Gen 2 L's are running nitrous.

Lets see, how do I say this....If I had the bucks, with a 5/6 car garage, I would surely have one of those wonderful AWD performance trucks in there, along with a few muscle cars from the late 60's. But if I were to turn queer, I would have to have a R/T mini truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SY RT, I didn't pay $32,000 for my lightning. I don't know where you got your info! I paid $28,200 for my truck. Invest the $3,200 in a supercharger & come on down. Supercharged RT's still don't beat a chipped Lightning. I'll stake $500 on that one. Break it out. And one more thing, name calling is for little boys. I'm still lauging at your joke they call an RT! A pure disgrace for Dodge. Lloyd
