Lightning vs syclone/typhoon??
yeah imagine a "whole washing machine" oooooooooooo, what a tough truck! lol
when i asked about which was faster i wasn't referring to gen 1 lightnings sycotic, i was referring to gen 2 99 and 00 lightnings, which are muich more powerful and much faster. can't wait to see what the 2001 lightning puts up for numbers......

Ok,how many times are we going to have to visit this subject hmmm? I mean no one is going to give ground here. I owned a Sy and I now own an L,both are monsters in their own ways. To get into a "friendly" war of words is pointless.
This "he said, she said" stuff is for the birds. The same things that have been said before are being said yet again. "The Sy/Ty can't haul...it's not a truck." "The Sy/Ty aren't reliable."
"It only took Ford 10 yrs to make competition."
"I saw a (insert vehicle here) run (insert time here),they are slow."
"I saw a (insert vehicle here) run (insert time here),it's faster than a (insert vehicle here)."
Really it's pointless. We aren't comparing apples and apples,or apples to oranges for that matter. They are TOO different to be compared side by side. The only thing that should be compared are time slips, and you dance w/ who you brought, not w/ who you "saw".If you beat a Sy/Ty in your L...great. If you beat a L in your Sy/Ty...Fan-freakin-tastic. Just don't believe it will always be that way..."There's always somebody faster."
P.S. My L(ALL STOCK) runs consistent 13.7's,my Sy(when stock) ran 13.4-13.5's. Modded(lightly) it ran 12.6-12.7's. My Bolt is still stock...But not for much longer.

[quote] Time for my .02 worth. Muscle Mustang & Fast Ford ran a BONE STOCK 12,000 mile truck & ran a 13.37 twice in a row! [\quote]
This is the same mag that removed the resinator and added a drop in filter and it ran a 14.9 ..
believe that, believe their lightning runs.

Keith, I'm glad I sent you the page. We needed some answers, and you brought out the boys! You on the other hand, would be a great run for my truck. Too bad you're so far away. What mods do you have? I have ONLY a chip & filter otherwise everything is stock. My best ET is only .06 slwer than yours, My best 60' is a 1.90 vs. your 1.85. Man I wish you were here. Then we could run my Cutlass against yours! Lloyd

LSChicago, we have plenty of trucks in Chicago, e-mail me and I'll put you in touch with any level of modded truck there you want. Keith's truck ran those times with a 103,000 miles on it, stock motor etc. Where will the Lightning's be at 103,000 miles? What about the secret recall Ford has on the trannies in the Lightning's and the F350 diesels? Ask around at your local Ford dealer, they're doing lots of tranny swaps under warranty. The next big Ford fiasco after tires, engine control modules under the hoods, 94-95 3.8 motors, etc. the list just goes on. Of course my Sy has had it's tranny in and out and worked on 4 times...

Okay, I can't resist anymore either....
At my very first outing with my Ty (April of this year) at the track a black Lightning was there, too. He ran a few of times - high 13s each time. I assumed it was modified, but after reading the posts here, maybe it wasn't. My Ty is bone stock with 72k miles on it. I was hoping (praying) for the mid-low 14s that the mags claimed the Typhoon was capable of. I had owned the truck for a month, and wasn't used to it yet. I ripped off a 13.7 @ 96 with a 1.7 60' time. The Lightning ran a best of 13.8 that day. The second run I ran a worse time after "overboosting" and having the computer shut the engine down.
The quarter mile is fun, but around here the stoplight drags is where it's at. The AWD on the Ty gets it to 60 so fast that it makes me dizzy. Nothing has ever come close. Yeah, stuff catches up after a while, but only long after the speed limit has been exceeded and for all intents and purposes the contest is over. Tell your buds that if you had a full 1/4 to run you'd have beaten it if that makes you feel better.
I heard about the power that the Lightnings are getting in 2002 and I think it's cool. Maybe they will finally come close at the lights, but they better make sure they have some fat, sticky tires under them. You have to have some really sticky stuff in order to come close to the times an AWD anything will post on even the skinniest and cheapest street tires. But, if you don't catch someone with a 5 PSI launch from a stoplight, you're cooked.
So who's faster or quicker? Sometimes it's the other guy - there's no way around it. There's always someone faster. At the track things get interesting, but at the stoplights if you hear a SyTy spooling up against the brakes, get ready to look at some tail lights until you're going fast enough to collect a pretty hefty fine from Johnny Law. It's just physics. You can protect yourself by driving around with your DOT slicks all the time, but have fun in the rain.
If Ford made an AWD Lightning, I'd own one tomorrow. They're the sexiest looking vehicle Ford makes anymore. But, I got tired of being spanked at the stoplights in my 5.0 Mustang by AWD Talons. Same logic applies. The Mustang would reel it in and blow by it in the 1/4, but that didn't really matter.
Different trucks, different decades, different purposes to serve. If there wasn't this rivalry, what fun would owning either truck be?

Gary, the transmission problem is a 2001 issue. One of the members on this board works at te trans plant that builds our transmissions. The problem was a part that only costed a couple dollars. Which ford changed to save a few $$. It was tested in diesels OK, But not at high rpms like the Lightning. Which is where the problems come in. NONE of the Lightnings have these transmissions, as no 2001 L's were built yet. So our trucks are unaffected by the recall. We have had Lightning vs. Dakota RT shootouts, Now we need to have a Sy vs. L shootout! great idea! We have trucks all over the country & so do you lets do it. I'll make another post here about it. got boost, that was a great post.......and you are totally correct, 0-60 times in the 4s is almost untouchable at a stop light.....i hear that.
i still think the syclone is butt ugly (i like the looks of the typhoon though).

hitman is correct...
friendly competition is what its all about...
we all should be proud we have trucks that haul ***
where in the rulebook does it say trucks can't be fast?
enough talking...back to racing.

Hey BlckSVTTruck, I'm not trying to talk junk or anything but you said that the Sy's and Ty's need the AWD to be fast just like you need your supercharger to be fast, them with out the AWD may not launch as good, but with without the blower are a nice workin slow work truck..
