Much props to Atom!! =-)
He knows I am all for performance...
Ive said this many times before... YES the L is the fastest production truck, but there are dakota's in the single digits somewhere as with L's and Chevys, and even the ricer trucks... Its all about the money...
I like Dodge, therefore I'm making a fast one, since Dodge isnt going to do that for another 2-3 years... I'm just not big on Ford trucks, I like the Mustang, but I like the F-bodies better, because my bro has one..
I'm sure if you drove a Dodge, and it didnt give you any trouble, you'd be agreeing with me, just as you have a Ford, and its not giving you anything to complain about, therefore you are sticking with that...
As far as the Sy/Ty, they are some awesome trucks as well... My opinion is that the turbo v6's rocked.. but they are no longer the fastest, as the L's have that spot...
If I'm correct, the big 3 have their own spotlight...
Chevy: Fastest SUV
Ford: Fastest Truck
Dodge: Fastest Car
Its all opinion... Now, I hope everyone can grow up, and stop the Mine is Better than yours thing, its childish..
Your car/truck is what YOU make it.. it dosent matter what others think...

To get back to the point of the topic without name calling, I have had a Typhoon and I now own a Lightning.

The Typhoon, when running correctly, should be an even run for a Lightning, with stock times running between 13.5 and 14.0.

The Syclone on the other hand should beat a stock Lighting 100% of the time. It ran times from 13.2 to 13.6 when it was stock, and there were examples that ran 12.4 quarters on less than $500 in mods.

Now on the "The rest of the story". Syclones and Typhoons are seven to nine years old, meaning that there will be a lot of them that don't run like they are supposed to because the owners haven't done the detailed maintenance that is required to keep an older turbo vehicle running at its peak. That's where stories of Syclones running 14.3 come from.

Finally, in the beginning of my post I said that I HAD a Typhoon, but now own a Lightning. That's because Syclones and Typhoons are hands down some of the biggest pieces of garbage that GM has ever made. The concept was great. The Sy/Ty's look good and when they are running correctly, they are a joy to own, but I have $4,000 in receipts over the course of two years of ownership of my extremely low mileage Typhoon. Not exactly a stellar reliability rating, and like it or not it's something that MOST Syclones and Typhoons share.

As for the R/T's, this thread wasn't about your truck, but if you feel the need to be slammed, just pick up a copy of the November Hot Rod magazine. They have two features in there about R/T's and even Dodge insiders contributed to the verbal beating that the R/T's got. "Truck motor", "Weak rotating assembly", and "Responds poorly to mods" were some of the terms that were used, EVEN by the Daimler Chrysler powertrain people. For all you Lightning fans, do yourself a favor and BUY the November Hot Rod because it's a laugh a minute.

Oh, and just to avoid any comebacks by people who think I'm a Ford loyalist, the Lightning is the first Ford that I've ever owned. Up until then it was always GM or German cars. My bad experience with the Typhoon was enough to make me try a Lightning.

Ok kids, what did we all learn from this thread? Hmmmmm?

Like I posted waaaaay back on the first page(how this got so long is beyond me),this discussion is BEAT. It's dead,it's pointless. We agree to DISagree. The trucks(I use the term loosely for some) are quick/fast whatever you want to call them. But in the end you dance w/ who YOU brought to the dance. Not w/ who you see there. If you got the dough you can make it go.

As for what I learned from this thread:
1)Those 20's on that Ty...Ghetto.If you like em,good for you.
2)R/T guys(most, not all) always bring up the "we paid xxx amount and w/ xx amount we could do this". Greaaaat. Keep us posted
3)Sy/Ty guys(most, not all) seem to respect the L,and will put up and/or shut up at the track. Thats the way it should be.
4)L guys(most, not all)are tired of the comparisons, tired of the "armchair racing",and tired of the R/T guys(most not all) blathering and whining. We also are a bit too quick to anger, mostly I believe because we don't get much respect. Not from car owners, nor truck owners.
5)Comparing the LOOKS of a truck is just plain goofy."Fords are ugly","Dodges are ugly","Chevy/GM's are ugly"...Thats ridiculous. I really find it hard to believe we all bought are choosen vehicles because they "looked so damn good". I had a Sy,not 'cause it look good, beacuse it was quick.A bit different looking? Yes."Good looking"? Nah. Same goes for the L.It's different,it's fast, that's what I wanted, thats what I got.

I don't know about the rest of you,but I knew all except #1 BEFORE I read this torturously long thread.

Brett

P.S. I think a better comparison is b/w the Sy and the R/T,both are small pick-ups toping out in the mid-20's in price, and not a lot of towing potential. Not a flame, just an observation.

Wink

I dunno...there seems to be some confusion about which vehicle is faster, and which vehicle has better traction...I'd like to invite all Sy/Ty owners to a Lightning shootout WITH your front differentials disabled. It should be a REAL eye opener. Tee hee hee! Just joking everyone. Dont get yer panties in a bunch!
