Just blew my engine!
holy shi....moley! This thread has exploded!
to all the people who are griping about ford's issues, I just want to ask one thing-- was this engine designed or intended to perform under the circumstances described when it blew? (hint: the answer is NO) How can anyone in good conscience argue that he should take it in? He modified it and (assumably knowingly) cut into the margin of safety both with his mods and actions. Now he's stuck. While there is always a *possibility* this might have happened without mods, we'll never know that now. Also, laying the mods aside, it is important to remember this is a truck--even though it is a lightning it is not a Shelby Mustang and was not designed to do 120+. I don't care what anyone says, no one can deny that that engine-- even in stock form with no boost-- would have been much more likely to throw a rod at 120 mph than if the speed were kept down to a reasonable level. It's the laws of physics. If you want something to LAST, you don't do stuff like that. If you do stuff like that, you should know that it will reduce your truck's life. (and maybe your own too)
now, having said all that, I can see the original poster's dilemma-- he probably should have known this was a possibility and either not done what he did or planned appropriately and saved money for such an eventuality, but he apparently didn't and he is now stuck in a bad situation. I can see the temptation in trying to get the bill picked up by Ford, because he doesn't know what else to do. Totally understandable and I'd be (briefly) tempted too.
But everyone else on here, egging him on...? What's up with that? It's obvious that the situation described is so far outside warranty as to be pure unadulterated fraud if he tries it. Why encourage him to do it?
This is no different than the guy who doesn't pay taxes because he's "only" defrauding the government-- well, guess what, that guy still uses the roads and enjoys the fire protection, public parks, etc etc etc as paid for by everyone else. In this situation, you all (except the Subaru troll) assumably like and/or own ford trucks, why are you all trying to get him to commit fraud against ford and (by proxy) against me and against YOU?
Think about it.

I am convinced more and more each day that the average Lightning owner's IQ is about room temperature -- measured in Celcius.
The only thing that has kept me here as long as I have is the few people who actually understand the scientific method -- or at least can spell it But those bright shining stars of sanity are being drown out by the droning of the moronic masses.
What this board needs is a good old fashioned enema, purging the stupid and tasteless. Rude I can take, but the ignorance is becoming more than I can handle. But that won't happen. We are all too concerned about not hurting anyone's feelings (fewer subscribers means fewer ad hits, which means less SV $).
So let's all just kick back and enjoy the glow of brotherhood. No reason to let little things like truthfulness, intellectual honesty, reason -- or candor -- get in the way of a lovefest.

here's my two cents:
If you want to try to put it back to stock, do it. If Ford denies your claim, grow some ***** and deal with it.
OR
Buy a long block (SAL @ PSP has one) and slap that in there. It'll be much cheaper than having Ford do it.
Ford screwed me over once too many times in my life. I enjoy watching the little guy pull a fast one past them. However, with FORD reading these boards daily, I doubt that will hapen in this case.

I own a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited. Plenty quick stock but much quicker now, I recently got an upgraded clutch UNDER WARRENTY. As far as this forums is concerned you can take you 2WD, 2 DOOR, Barely 3 seater, WAY over powered, Over Priced, Pick up truck and do whatever it is that something like that might be good for (cause I certainly don't know) and put it where the sun don't shine....and that would be a service bay at your local dealer, or perhaps your garage when it snows or rains. Be realistic if you want a sports car, buy one cause your pickup isn’t fooling anyone

P.S. As far as SAFETY goes; I 'll bet if Ford put side-airbags in the L it would be on top of list as many others would safety thats what their saying, but what good are airbags if you don't have the metal behind them. Japan! like crushing a empty soda can in your hand. BTW ; BUY AMERICAN ! Only let our politions borrow from China for the defecit .

Something I find absolutely amazing, beyond logical belief is for some people to claim Ford or any other manufacture has “ripped them off”. There was a post that mentioned something along the lines of:
”They charge us $30,000 for this truck, they ripped us off”
I think one of Jerry’s kids could even find the stupidity of that, then again maybe not so let me ask a stupid question:
How exactly did Ford rip any of us off when paying $30,000 +/- for our trucks? Did someone use a personal check and the dealer informed them it was $10,000 and then once deposited Ford drew out another $20,000 from their account?
See the stupidity yet? No, well, ok, try this one. Did the truck have a PRICE TAG on it? Did you NOT read the contract you signed where it states the selling price?
Here is some logic to think about. Choice, we all have it, we all have a right to exercise it. If someone thinks it’s a rip off to pay $30,000 for our trucks then simply exercise your right to choose NOT to purchase the truck.
If someone truly thinks Ford is out to rip every one of us off no matter what model of vehicle we choose DON’T purchase a Ford product. It someone truly thinks some of, or all of Ford’s vehicles suck DON’T purchase them.
It’s truly about personal responsibility. If you exercise personal responsibility then generally you will not get ripped off unless of course it’s a new product and/or business where you have limited or no information to base a decision from.
Oh, and we will always need lawyers because for some unknown reason people in business, in government, and in law enforcement can NOT seem to write anything with much logic for a “normal” educated person to understand and/or comprehend and thus lawyers will continue to make the BIG money…
Normal person - ”What the hell did those 5 paragraphs state?”
Lawyer – ”It basically just states if you modify your vehicle your screwed…” “That will be $500 please”

It's bad enough we have to deal with real lawyers on this site. Now Burt has to go and sleep in a Holiday Express last night.
