Unhappy Just blew my engine!

Yup, exactly what it says.....I was heading home from school in RI for winter break and I had just crossed over the MA border on Rt. 295 N and i was cruising at about 80MPH when i decided that it would be a good idea to step on it for the upcoming straight. Well that was a bad idea because around 120 MPH the engine made a big BOOM! At first I thought that my limiter had kicked in but then I saw I was only at 120 MPH and then I looked in my mirrors and couln't see any cars behind me because there was so much smoke. There was all kinds of griding noises and just god aweful sounds that the truck was making, so I thought that the tranny would be in the middle of the highway behind me. I then immediately pulled over and jumped out of the truck and looked under it and saw that my transmission was still in tact. But while I'm under there all I can see and smell is oil. Its everywhere. I'm not sure whenre it is leaking from but it was definateley pooring out. Also at this point cars had just begun to come through the smoke filled highway at about 15 MPH. One lady even slowed down and asked me if the other car had blown up because she didn't see any visible damage on mine! So the tow truck guy finally came and 50 miles and $300 later I was in my driveway. So now that the truck is in the garage....WHAT DO I DO?!?!? For mods I have a 6lb JDM Pulley, AEM Brute Force CAI, and Bassani mid pipes and catback. Oh and by the way I'm still under warranty. So what should I do? I'm not to worried about the exhaust, so that can stay on. I have a the XCal flash device so putting my stock tune back on isnt a problem either. The hardest part will be putting the pulley back on, which I hope I still have all the parts for. And as for my CAI, I stil lhave the stock one but I'm not sure if that would void the warranty.
Well, I'm not just posting this to tell everyone my sob story but I really need some help. What is everyones opinion on how I should handle this? And No! a built motor is out of the qustion... I have $0.00 for that, even though that would be the best thing. So how should I handle this with Ford? Do you think I have a chance to get a new motor under warranty? Please any advice or comments will help. And until then, may the L rest in peace..... Thanks for all the help.

From KarKraft.com:

Precision built 5.4 SVT "Lightning" long blocks

S/C "Lightning" specific 1999-2003

has the 8 bolt steel crankshaft, forged pistons and Lightning connecting rods.

Complete with front timing cover as pictured and includes oil pan, special water pump and valve covers! * please specify year when ordering. some 2002 trucks have 2001 components

$3695.00 #KK6006L truck freight only

Note: when replacing a Lightning Long Block from a blown engine, the intake manifold, inner cooler and supercharger must be dismantled separately and not taken off as a 3 pc. assembly. Metal and debris from a blown engine will lodge up around the inner cooler and fall back into the new long block when initially started. Been There, **** Done That !!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldnt worry about the intake or exhaust.. but I CERTAINLY WOULD put the stock pully back on and reflash it back to stock. Then, there should be no problem.

BUt yeah, that sucks a$$

If you decide to go back to Ford you need to do exactly what you have stated and return your L to complete stock (less the cat back). And make sure you have a damn good reason why you didn't tow the truck immediately to Ford. The fact you have it back home will raise questions. Believe me the towing company will be asked where it was towed from.

An 80mph blast with a 6lber is the kiss of death and I have heard this story too many times. In fact I was behind a friend who did the exact same thing. After a night of 12-15 quarter mile runs with no problem. The load at that speed is just too much for stock rods to handle - it isn't a tuning issue in my opinion.

My friend decided to return his L to stock and go to the local dealer, the local dealer said we will take care of it, but a "Ford" rep came into the picture and concluded the truck had been modified (how I don't know). Because my friend had connections through SVT Ford split the bill with him and he still ended up paying $3200 to replace and it took two months from initial delivery to driving it home.

To say the least he never put the 6lber back on.

Best of Luck and sorry to hear of your misfortune!

D-Day

Change your pulley and put your stock air intake back on. Flash it back to your stock tune....then....call Ford. If you dont have the pieces for your stock pulley, I am sure you can order them or even find them on Ebay.

I dont see why you wouldnt be covered under your warranty? I know Ford gives people a hard time though.

Heck, I have a lightning with a GM warranty! GO figure!

NO comment on what you should do..........

I will say no comment on what you should do .but Unless you are willing to get a built motor at YOUR expense TAKE the pulley OFF,and live with what you have.STan

PS the one thing everyone is forgetting is that if you do cheat ford out of a warranty motor you are ALSO cheating the mechanic fixing it.Since he is getting paid about half of what he needs to be paid on a job like that.So step up to the plate and give the mechanic about 400 bucks IF you do get it warranted.
I know that IF I worked a dealership still I would look very carefully at everything and if something is out of place,ie rust on the pulley or paint not worn off of it but off of the blower pulley I would be working on customer pay ticket instead and IF the manager told me to still work on it[under warranty] I would be saying then customer pay the labor or else.mechanics make *****t at most dealerships.and you are basicly stealing from them to if you try and cheat on warranty.

You can't expect people to feel bad for cheating these days.
8 years of Bill Clinton and the terrible parenting these days has made cheating the norm. In fact you are a sucker if you don't

You are rite that it is getting to be the norm but that does not make it rite!Cheating is a very nice word for stealling. So I guess I can cheat [steal] the radio out of your truck and just leave you 5 bucks on the seat for it?About the same analogy,in my eyes. All of this 'cheating' is adding up to higher costs of everything.Stan
