If I were KB, even if it were true, I would be ashamed to admit that intake temps caused a blower failure.

By the way Sal I love my Caltracs.
PS: Dale North, I was referring to Dale South in my previous post.

I read all Kenne-Bell info on their site a long time ago. And I expected it to promote thier product - nothing unusual about that - but I was surprised at the position they took took on filters that draw in air only from the engine compartment. I think just about everyone agrees that the engine produces more power when drawing a supply of air to the intake that is cooler than the usual underhood temp's that build up in the summer heat (using an airbox that draws air from the fender opening or from the outside elsewhere), particulary with headers, etc - but I was surprised at the veracity and emphasis they put on it for their blower. Most on here will advise not to draw your intake air from hot underhood air - but they are just adamanty opposed to any kind of filter setup that doens't draw from the fender opening or some other outside source - seems way beyond just a concern for a potential power loss. Makes you think they've got good reason to do so - that perhaps as some others have speculated, that at least some K-B units have some operational problems or issues with hot air in the intake that may lead to premature failure.
The main reason for the "hot air" kits is because the hole on the fenderwell is too small to feed the motor and the open air elements have to draw air from somewhere. I'm not sold on the scoop placed a foot off the 140 degree blacktop road surface either. Here in Miami, you could fry an egg on how hot the pavement gets.
I was thinking about what would be involved, or how difficult it would be to make a bigger hole in in the fenderwell.

an alcohol/methanol kit (ie. Snow Performance) would go a long way toward cooling the charge temp.
its interesting to me KB didn't mention this concept, or, develop a system to combat this known problem...it would be cheaper than continuing massive warranty claims.

This post has become very informative, Thank You All for that.
I'm not taking a stand for either side, especially because I have considered, (and still am) switching to a KB. Yes there have been failures, yes some of my friends have had failures, and yes I have spoke of them. But there are also problems with other S/C's, I've experienced some, I know of others that have, and I speak about them too.
Plus hey this is America and I'm allowed to change my mind
In either case, what I am glad to FINALLY see and read, is that there were in fact many changes made to the KB since they first appeared, I was not aware of that.
1-1/2 years ago there were a few inlet plate sealing problems where we used too little sealant. That has been long since rectified.
One other minor issue was the slight clatter at idle which is caused by a cam or slightly rough idling engine. We have made a change to tighten up the clearance with a new "green" coupler which has been in use for about a year
Somewhere in the original production, there was an issue with supercharger case distortion from over torquing when installing the kit. We solved the problem with an o-ring case and other changes.
The problem was originally with the Lightning’s cast aluminum case and it was fixed
No one can dispute that right now KB is King of the bolt on Mods, and no one can dispute ALL the fastest L's in the world run them, that clearly tells me something, and it also tells me "I WOULD" reach my goals with one. If there is a clear answer to what makes them run trouble free, I surely am interested in knowing it. SO, can Jim Bell "or someone" PLEASE clear this up for me, ("in laymen talk").
Are we saying only a stock air box will retain the wrrnty on a KB ???
or maybe a Airaid System too, (since it seals against the hood when closed)

Which means maybe we can figure a way to extend or seal a PSP or JLP box to do the same ???
