Question

Think you've mistaken me for someone else, big Dave. I have a long bed styleside, last flareside I had was a '63 and it was sent to the boneyard in the sky 12 years ago.

4Thunder, All I can say is they must have been parking tickets, and its easy to get lp off of the vin number...NYC has a graduating class of 2500 cadets.....over 500 bigger than our own department..And if you have been to NYC and saw some of the officers, well I wont go there..And yes it does sound like a quota system is live and well there (illegal). Befor quotas where outlawed, it wasnt uncommon for officers to go to graveyards and write the names from head stones on tickets.....I hate quotas, always have..Fought one of our SGTs recently about trying to do it recently...only he called it contacts.....duhhhhhh doesnt matter what you call it a quota is a quota......Dont know what to tell you..........some officers are afraid to speak up in fear of losing there jobs and lively hood.....Dave

DAVEINSA,

Wanted to bring this to the top. There is an interesting post in the Lightning section regarding "a lawyer for CA and myself."

Would like to read your professional input.

Davensa,
I have read your post and appreciate you time and effort, (all other officers also) in reaching out to the F150online members. I have absolutly no respect for bad cops, or cops that think they are god. I do have respect for officers that try to resolve minor problems without putting the petty criminal in a bad situation, and putting the system under more stress.

I am wondering if it is legal for Average Joe to have a bullet proof vest and a gas mask. I remember hearing about the Seatle thing about it being illegal to poses a gas mask. I also remember the LA riots (was in the middle of it) and when I have kids, you bet they are gonna have that sort of protection.
Thanks for your time

DavidSA says:
GTT1, 1 ton, no you are exempt.....but I can tell you alot of officers dont know it.....so let the officer know to look in 545.413 it states passenger car or light truck...defines them as manufacturers rated carrying capacity of 1500 lbs or less...the seat belt laws do not include 1 tons..or even 3/4 tons.......Dave
____________________________________________

Does that mean the state believes that you cannot be killed while driving a truck of one ton or less?

I asked that question along time ago....The answer I was given.."ITS THE ONLY WAY IT WOULD PASS THE STATE LEGAL LAW MAKER" Seems the agricultural part of our state uses alot of 3/4 tons and about to transport workers..This is what I was told.....do I believe it, Yes..Politics suck....Dave

Question

OK Dave...this is lengthy, but here goes: The other night (around 10PM), I'm just wrapping up some studying. Everyone else in the house is asleep, and the doorbell rings several times in a row. I go downstairs and look out the window and no one is there. I head back up, and it happens again. This time I look out the side window and sure enough, three 15-16 year old kids are hiding, apparently waiting for me to open the door before they scamper off (by now my kids are up and the house is in an uproar). So this time when the kid does it, the door flies open and I take off after them. I guess they didn't count on a 40-year-old guy outrunning a 16 year old, but I tackled one of them on a lawn about half a block down (mind you...I JUST brought him down...at near 200lbs, I could have done damage if I wanted to). After yelling at them and finding out one kid was from the neighborhood (and incidentally has been in this kind of trouble before) I called his mother up. First thing out of her mouth was "what did he do THIS TIME?" I just told her I was pissed and tell him to knock it off. I figured that was it, right?

She calls back about 10 minutes later telling me that while she did "give the kids hell" she didn't think I was "setting a good example" by chasing them down and using the "f-word" in front of them!!! After I asked her if she was on crack...I said that if she didn't like my examples, she needs to keep her kid off my property. This is obviously a problem child and I was starting to see the mother had the "my poor kid" attitude, so the conversation deteriorated quickly. I then called the neighborhood watch captain (or whatever he is) and he subsequently had a talk with the parents and the kid. He said he thinks he made them understand the problem (doubtful), then he says that there was talk that the parents of the kid I tackled were considering pressing charges against ME for swearing and tackling their little sh*t!!

Dave...the way I look at it, these kids are lucky they didn't go to a house with a gun owner in it...it could have turned out much worse. And everyone I talked to said they'd have done the same thing. Nothing has come of it (and I doubt it will) but was I so far out of line? And I think I have some charges I could press as well, if they want to take it to that level. We all got into mischief when we were kids, but at a time where people are shooting each other at the mall because one guy swiped another guy's parking space, I think practical jokes have kind of gone out of style. Your opinion on what happened and what I should do in the future would be welcome.

BTW...if I had done that when I was a kid, not only would my dad have dragged me down there to apologize (NO ONE has bothered to apologize to ME or MY family for what happened) and then dragged me back home and paddled my *ss but good, THEN put me on restriction!!!

What no curfew ? You did alright, but next time just call the police. Watch them and stay on the phone till the police arrive..That way they can be given a tresspass warning too.. But next time dont chase them off, and dont open the door..answer these questions...1) Did you know if they were looking to rob someone, you, your family ? 2) Could they have been carrying a gun or other weapon ? yes..Is it worth your family loosing a husband or dad ? No, is the only answer..I would hve probably done the same thing, only I would have answered with a gun and cover would be on the way...I have been to, to many shootings/killings witht he same details you mentioned..an officer buddy of mine did it too, when they got into the alley they beat the **** out of him..He wont do that again..We are getting older and have more responsibiltties, I have to learn it too.....but hey if they want to file a civil suit so be it, counter suit..I really dont think they will but you never know.....will a jury award them and will they find a lawyer to take it...I doubt it..Good luck, Dave

Thanks Dave. You're right of course, I probably should have called the cops and stayed inside (I guess the old defensive back in me came out!) I got a GOOD look at all of them before I ran...so I was fairly certain they were just up to mischief and not carrying guns. BUT you never know, so your advice is well taken. And I'm also pretty sure I won't be dealing with any civil suits.

What really just irks me is the attitude of the parents (mother in this case). No remorse...no responsibility...just a commentary on MY attitude. As far as curfew is concerned...it's pretty obvious that there isn't a whole lot of guidance going on in that household, so I'm pretty sure that a curfew has little meaning to them. I'm sure you deal with parents like that all the time in your work...sad isn't it?

What IS the curfew/age limit here in the Lone Star state anyways? Does it differ from city to city?
