Indigo, yes it differs city to city..In SA its under 17yrs old 10pm-6am Sunday night to Fri morning..12 midnight on weekends.......Yes those parents call us because they cant control their kids, first thing i do is walk into their room...You can get a pretty good idea of the parents and kids by looking in there rooms (kids)..I had one teenage girls room with barbie dolls head hanging from the ceiling with pins in the heads, maryln manson posters everywhere, writing all over the walls, fuc7 THIS fuc7 that written on the walls..........I tell them its to late for me to do anything...They let them get away with so much stuff then they want to put a leash on them...........tooooooooooooooooooooo late..need to start young..
Had one tell me today she is afraid to spank him..13 yrs old..one step from TYC...I tell every parent the Tx penal code give the parents the right to spank..pc 9.61..I spank mine when needed..( HE DOESNT NEED IT OFTEN, SWEET KID) arent they all..lol..............
but to answer that question yes i hate those kind of non-parents.........but they and we pay for it in the end.......Dave

Question

Davensa, I got a ticket last night for "Laying Drag" while driving my Mustang GT. What is the definition of laying drag? Details - I pull away from a stop sign and my tires squeak, they didn't squeal and I didn't leave any rubber on the road, it was more like a chirp. The guy behind me leaves the stop sign and squeals his tires, almost gets them smoking. The cop pulls both of us over and the guy behind me gets a DUI. Then when I protest the ticket he is handing me, I figure he wrote it I am going to get it I don't have to kiss his *** anymore. "officer if I wanted to lay drag I could of layed drag that was not drag" he says "consider yourself lucky that guy got a DUI" I said "lucky for what? getting a ticket for something I didn't do?"

Davensa, I have a question for you. Let me preface by saying that I do not in any way dislike police officers in a general sense, and most of the them that have ticketed me have had every reason to (I have a bad speeding problem). But, do you think that four officers, from the same city, should be sitting at four speedtraps along a two mile stretch of the same road? Or do you believe that this is a little out of hand. As someone else said somewhere on this board, I thought that the object of an officer in a speed trap was to discourage speeding, not try to turn it into a high profit industry. And no, this was not a one time incident, I have seen them do this on multiple occasions (the city is notorious for speeding tickets, they NEVER give out warnings).

Have no idea what "Laying Drag" means up there..We call it exibition of excelleration, or if it goes on along ways "racing" might be a good term..but if the tires just chirped like pop, then I would look not stop...if it was like poooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooop, then i might stop...You didnt say what the other car was...and if he spun his wheels too, any reasonable person would think you guys were trying to race or play..I dont know what to tell you, I usaully stop them and verbally warn them, (I WAS YOUNG ONCE TOO) and I got a ticket for the same thing Sept 1980..(remember because it was a month before i went to boot camp). We were going to race, but as I squeeled my tires "pop" I saw the chief of police three cars back, the other guy kept going on the throttle...we both got the same ticket..I paid the thing. So I know how you feel, thats why i warn, unless they have a attitude....You can always fight it, tell them its a standard and its very hard not to squeel the tires alittle when you take off, maybe the judge will lower the fine...Dont know, live in Texas....Good luck

About the speed trap deal, if its a small town then they probably get most of their money from tickets, so they are probably told to enforce speed laws there, sounds like it s easy fishing there. Or they may be working a federal grant, where the police dept gets grant money to enforce traffic laws on a paticular stretch of road...Have there been alot of accidents on that stretch, and fatalities..
If not it is probably a revenue gathering practice of that city..keeps taxes from going up..and if you know they are always there slow down till you get past them silly...Police Depts are a very political animal...its hard to butt head with the City mgr, council and Police Chief/Sheriff....They all need money to do there jobs, and speeding tickets is where alot of the money comes....I know i probably didnt answer your question very good but i hate politics....In my next life im coming back rich so i dont have to work....Dave

Hey Dave...Barbie heads hanging from the ceiling?? That's pretty pathetic. The parents must be living on another planet or something, but as you say, we all pay for it in the end. My kids are really great, and we have a fantastic relationship. I "pick my battles" carefully, but they know that daddy has no problem giving them the back of his hand if they cross the line. I can look at them and they stop. Not out of fear, but out of respect, and realizing there are limits. I am one of those parents that absolutely refuses to have a "tail-wagging-the-dog" situation in my home. My wife and I run the show and make the decisions, period. And if things ever got really out of control, a military academy or "tough-love" would become very real options. I love my kids with every fiber, but I was not put on this earth to be walked on or to take the heat for their continued insubordination.

If I may add my .02 to your comment regarding speed traps...Vocaire: if you live in the city where this is occurring, you do have an option. Here in TX, the Sheriff, Constable, and some other law enforcement officials are an elected office. In a small municipal election, your vote (and the votes of others) counts for a LOT. Even if you are dealing with people who aren't elected (e.g. the chief of police or a city manager), they are generally held accountable to city officials who ARE elected. If you can get enough support to make an official feel his or her job may be in jeopardy for what they are doing, or in the case of city council members, for what they are NOT doing, you will see changes. Tarrant county has a Sheriff who is always at odds with the city council and has been pushing his luck with questionable practices for years, and I believe his number is up this election. I'd be really surprised if he remained in office.

If you don't live in the town...driving the speed limit is your best option.

Dave: Yes it does hurt, but hey...a little hurt now saves a LOT of hurt later, you know?

San Antonio Rally...I really want to go. I have a place to stay (in-laws ranch in Fredericksburg!), but it's the weekend following a week long business trip to Michigan, so I'll have to see how things go. It really depends on what's happening here, but I'll try my best! If I do come, maybe we can plan a cruise one evening for dinner and some brews to this great microbrewery in town, Fredericksburg Brewing Company. What do you think?

Darin:

Bring your cite by the store tomorrow, and we can review it, get the Vehicle Code Statute straight and I can call a friend or two.
Which Dept. issued the Cite? Cobb County usually gets it pretty right, Kennesaw City usually doesn't and if you followed Christy Ann's story on the Lightning thread, she got off pretty lightly in part because of a poorly written Cite.

Thanks Bill, I will see you tomorrow. I called Cobb County police (ticket giver) and asked for a definition of "laying drag". The Sgt. that answered the phone said he didn't have a code book in front of him, but I could go down to the library and look it up there. That's how I think I am going to get out of it, I don't think what I did was "laying drag". Unless it's only like a $50.00 fine then it's not worth missing work and I will pay it.

Davensa, I was going down the road behind a new cougar and a GMC pickup in front of him. All 3 of us were about 15-20 over the limit (45) going down this back road. We come to a light and all go straight. At this apartment complex about 1/4 past the light, the truck and the cougar move into the turn lane like they are going to turn into the apartments. I pass the truck and then he pulls out of the turn lane and gets right on my bumper. We come to "the" stop sign about a 1/2 after the appt complex. Then I chip the tires, just a quick pop and he squeels his. I think the cop thought we knew each other or something. Do states usually have some list somewhere that describes things like "laying drag"?

Exclamation

Hi Dave. Thought I'd pass this one on. My wife was talking to a friend of ours who occasionally volunteers as a lunch monitor at my daughter's elementary school cafeteria. She was telling her about a 3rd grader who was caught red-handed by the assistant principal stealing cookies from the cafeteria today. They called the kid's mom to come talk to the principal. Want to guess who it was??? The younger brother of the same 15 year-old clown who was ringing my doorbell a few weeks back!!! Our friend then told my wife that she overheard the mother as she was walking out of the school: "...oh he just grabbed the cookies before he realized he didn't have any money on him. Can you believe how they treat my boy???....."

Dave, I'm sorry...but there are some people that REALLY need to be removed from the gene pool

Indigo,
Nope doesnt surprise me..lol....Get this had 2 calls back to back.....both disturbances.....They were so much alike and about 10 miles in distance....Both single moms...both babies (real babies, not moms) are under 6 months..Both dad 18 yrs old, drop outs....guess its no wonder I will always have a job, babies raising (I mean not raising babies) the children dont have a chance..

Chris,
I am sorry to say that yes what you look like does have alot to do with everything...BUT after the initial contact and the officer gets to talk to you, he will find out you are ok...Remember we are only human, and this is human nature...I am sure that you saw your wife before you met her personality...and you probably liked what you saw, you too started to base a opinion. I am sure it wasnt negative though..lol..but its after I talk to the individual I make my real opinion...You sound like you have your dominos in a row though.....Good luck, hope to meet you and the rest of this great site someday.......Dave

Cool

Hey guys,

First of all, I would also like to thank all the police offers out there who risk their life to keep us safe for not nearly enough pay. I don't necessarily agree with some of the speeding laws and fines and I exceed the speed limit on a regular basis. If I get a ticked however, I don't blame the cops or anything because I knew what the speed limit was before I broke it. Would also add that even though I speed, I am not wreckless, and I only travel what I consider to be reasonable speeds based on conditions and such.

4wheelincop, I have a question for you. I had a weapons permit when I was living in Ga, but since moving to Jacksonville, FL I haven't taken the class yet to get mine.

My questions are where can I cary my handgun in my vehicle, loaded or unloaded, and with and without the permit. Also, should I announce to an officer that I have a firearm, if it is loaded or not, and where it is at in the vehicle. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

One more thing I would like to get off my chest. I feel I get treated differently sometimes because of the way that I look. Even though I may have tattoos showing and earrings when I am not at work, I don't think I should be prejudged because of this. I am in my 30's, A college graduate, and a computer consultant with an international company. My wife and I both have nice vehicles (my truck and her Cobra convertible), and we recently built a new house in a great area, but we get judged often on our appearances when we are spending our leasure time. I have to say that one of the few times I have not witnessed this was this past weekend when my wife got stopped and got a ticket she deserved in Daytona Beach FL during bike week. The office was very nice and professional. I guess they are used to our types there. By the way she was doing 58 in a 40, just didn't realize she was going that fast...... Very easy to do in the Cobra. Anyway, just hope more poeple will learn not to judge people based entirely on preceptions without cause. I'm sure most professionals and our officers would not do that. Just ranting ..........

Thank god we have a place like this to express our opinions.

And to all the officers here on our board, keep up the good work. We give to the FAP every year as well as to other police charitys such as the ones that supply benefits to the families of officers killed in the line of duty. Just want you guys to know that we apprecieate you, even though you still give us tickets sometimes.... LOL. But only when we deserve them of course
