Bbut hey I said be kind.....somebody isnt reading the first post...Smile you will feel better......Have a good day,

It seems in New York they have/will have a law that allows for the confiscation of the vehicle if 3 or more citations are issued on a stop. Nobody is gonna take my $30k vehicle over some dumba$$ traffic violation if I can help it. With that in mind, don't you feel there will be more high speed chases because of this?[a/quote]
IMHO, if you are driving in such a way as to warrant the issue of three citations at one time, then maybe you should not be on the road at all. And you think a high speed chase will solve this problem? Do you really think you would get away with it? Do you have no regard for the rest of us on the freeway with our families, or Your family, or the police officers who would have to chase you? Is your $30k truck worth making orphans of your family or someone else?

We would much rather see you stick around with the rest of the F150 Brotherhood. Think it over and best regards!

In response to speeding without being on a code call. Being a volunteer firefighter, I understand that completely. However, I live about 2 miles from a large police substation and I find it interesting that every day at shift change the roads leading to the station are treated like the officers own personal race track. I'm not just talking speeding, I'm talking well in excess - I tried following several but when I hit 70 in a 35 and couldn't keep up I backed off. yes I was being reckless too but I do have emergency driving training and the road that I tried following them on at the time was not developed. It is developed now and they still fly. The other main roads I'll try to pace them but back off at 50 (35mph zone) and at 50 they are still rapidly leaving me behind. I think we will both agree that the only emergency they are responding to at that time is mama calling them home! What stinks about this is the police drive up the speeds by doing this and then they set up speeding traps for revenue generation. I don't know about you or anyone else but this does not seem right, I think that the police should be held to the same standards as the laws they enforce. Thinking that they (the cops) are above the law breeds contempt for the law and then the real problems start.

Regarding the response to Dunn, I'm pretty sure that Texas law does not make any distinction between a loaded or unloaded gun In other words a gun is considered loaded by the state. I think their reasoning is that the laws would then be twisted and you would have to determine if the gun was loaded when it is pointed at you before you could defend yourself. This would be tough to do with revolvers and impossible with semiautomatics. My personal thoughts are if someone has a gun, I assume it is loaded, if someone points a gun in my direction they are threatening me with grave bodily danger and appropriate action should have been taken before the weapon was pointed my direction.

Davensa: I never meant to imply anything dishonest about you. My peeve is with the drug forfeiture laws brought on by Ronny Raygun's bunch that appear to be a clear violation of 4'th amendment laws. There have been numerous cases in which non-drug funds were seized and never seen again even after people proved(burden of proof is on the wrong person!) they were for other purposes. This law seems to be along the same lines. In an idealistic world all the cops obey the laws. However, in our world not all are that way. Like all professions there are the less than honest that enforce the loophole of the law and not the intent. Sorry for any misunderstandings as you seem to be a credit to your profession. Back to the original question, don't you feel that a law of this type will promote high speed chases? And I'm not refering to me or anyone in particular, just the general populace.

Bull, Yes i agree with you on the officers speeding..we do..I dont go 70-35 to get off , but i do speed...Bbut ok, let me put this to you, complain, and have someone set up radar on that street..Ssee how many officers get disciplined, all of them..but Then they will be so pissed they will be writing so many tickets but they will slow down...I dont write alot of tickets maybe 2-3 a month if they make me..(POP..PISSED OFF POLICE)..But I can tell you I see 10-20 a day...To me a person will only get a ticket by me for 1) atitude 2) they have put someone in harms way....or they are a big peckerwood (criminal type).....the opinions expressed by this officer are my own and not meant to incriminate anyone.........Dave

I found one article on it refering to alleged drunk drivers:

Note that the property is seized and sold without ever obtaining a conviction.
Also click on the link at the bottom of the article for more info on seizures.

Joshman:
The answer for your question is 25% for the front windows, and 35% for the rear windows behind the driver. And dont forget the as1 line on the windshield, you cant affix tint any lower than that..

I can respect your approach to the ticket issue both #1 and #2.
I have a 'legal' question for you: It deals with the aftermarket headlight bulbs..the 100 watt high/ 80 watt low bulbs. Are these legal for regular road use..or are they strictly for off road. A few ads for them have stated 'for off road use only' but others do not mention this.
Thanks for any info....

Davensa,
Hope I didn't make you mad. And you are being generous with your time answering members questions (much appreciated by all). You sound like the kind of officer I would like to run into … one that is reasonable. I'm not against speeding, I think most of the limits are set artificially low with the exception of residential (full agreement with you), those should be less than 30. What I am against is the flagrant disregard for the law HPD officers seem to have speeding, blowing lights, etc all to get back to the station. I know it is only a few but the turkeys doing it are doing a big disservice to the department. And yes I have managed to get unit numbers (only on the most flagrant and when possible - I won't jeopardize others or myself) and follow them to the station and have filed complaints and followed up and have gotten nowhere.

(And everyone else)
I assume everyone knows it is suposed to be in the constitution , your right to keep and bare arms. Well it is also in the Texas constitution as well. The Texas Constitution
Article 1 - BILL OF RIGHTS
Section 23 - RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS
Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.
Now a funny little tidbit. If you are in your car. That is considered your property, or like your house. You may keep a gun in your car, as long as it is in plain view Ie:shotguns on the rack (its a redneck thing) and pistols on the dash while traveling, (driving to the mall???) If the firearm is hidden in any way it is considered concealed. You can walk down the street with a firearm in a non- threatning mannor. The only problem with this is it only takes one person to say "he pointed it at me and you are going to jail.
