Thanks Dave for the replies. You clarified my driving questions, guess it's back to 85 in the construction zones w/o workers - just kidding.
Seriously, we appreciate all you guys working in the line. I for one would not have the patience to put up with the crap that some of the drivers dish out.
Thanks - Keep Safe out there.

Nathan,
Yeah, I saw your "flyby" film and was wondering if K band would have worked or if Lackland AFB radar would have been more effective......

Nathan,
Our traffic cars and a few patrol cars have the mounted units..they can hit you front/back, moving in front or back..off and on switch....by the time you get notified by your radar detector- you are caught.
Hand held stalker units have that function built in, I will try to have one at the Rally..to calibrate everyones speedos...and to show you how they work..

FordBigFoot,
I can honestly say, no, I wouldnt give another officer a ticket....He may be the one I am counting on to cover my a$$ someday. But everyone thinks because a officer doesnt have his lights and siren on, he isnt on a call..Thats not true..We can only run code to certain calls...lets say if you were an officer going to a violent family disturbance and you are 1 mile away and you cover is 5-10 miles away (not a code call) would you expect me to haul *** to get there asap..Sometimes its a hard call. Yes sometimes we speed for no reason and break other traffic laws, and thats why I myself dont write alot of tickets.....think maybe 1 or 2 a month..none last month..but most of those are for no insurance...(one of my pet peeves)..We dont drive our patrol cars off duty, so cant answer that one..I wouldnt speed off duty in a patrol car..dont want to go to IA....
PS...Dont write fireman, nurses, doctors, pretty ladies, oh hell i dont write many tickets........

That all depends on the department the jerk works for....for instance at my department SAPD..u have the following
1) contact the officers first line supervisor and complain.
2) contact Internal Affairs if its really bad and you want real action.
3) if civil right are violated contact the FBI...

a person commits a offense if the person operates a passenger car or light truck and
1) transports a child younger than 2 and does not keep the child secured during the operation of the vehicle in a child passenger safety seat system according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the safety seat system.
2) transports a child who is atleast 2 but younger than 4 and does not keep the child secured during the operation of the vehicle.
(A) in a child passenger safety seat system according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the safety seat system; or
(B) by a safety belt
fine is 25-50
14 years and younger safety belt where ever they sit....
anyone in front seat must wear a seat belt.
again fine is 25-50
nothing says a child must ride in the back..mine is 5, he rides in the front seat-airbag turned off.....

My sister, who lives in Houston, got hit at an intersection. She had her 5year old seatbelted next to her. 5 year old's are rather small and the seatbelt tends to not fit them as well as older kids and adults. Plus the shoulder belt is almost always put behind them or it's right in their face. Needless to say, my nephew was headed for the windshield when my sister managed to grab his foot and hold him down. (don't know how she managed to do this but mother's tend to do unusual things when it comes to protecting their kids) My point being, law may say it's safe for young kids up front but they are a lot safer in the back seat (that's if you have a back seat) She now tells her kids that the law in TX has changed and makes all of them ride in the back!!
DAVENSA,

Tina,
Tthey sell attachment for the seat belts so they will fit the smaller children the same as adults.....but you are absolutely right..the safest place for a child is in the back seat, center (hummm no shoulder belt) in any car....but i have seen more times than i can remember, seeing a car rear ended and if a child had been in the back seat, they would have been crushed....And in my experience I go to more rear enders on the highway than t-bones...So it all depends on the accident...As of yet no Texas law making it mandatory for kids to ride in the back seat...Glad we all (almost all) have f-150s......very safe trucks....Dave

bob1,
You can contest any ticket, most radar unit come with tuning forks that have say 30, 35, 40 or 50 mph printed on them...you hit the fork and put it in front of the unit..it then shows the speed..then the officer knows its calibrated.....How would you prove that the officer didnt do this, I dont know....can you ask him on the stand, yes...but all he has to prove is you were over the speed limit by 1 mph or more...also the radar unit is a tool only ...most officers who use the units can estimate your speed by site...that is part of out certification..guessing speeds without the radar units......
Hope this helps,
Dave

wildchild, to answer your question about Florida seatbelt laws and children it is simple. Children may sit anywhere in a passenger vehicle, and under the age of 4 need to be in a Federally approved child seat. As for children under the age of 16 need to wear their seatbelt reguardless of where they are sitting in the vehicle. There are no laws in effect for the Sunshine state that regulate where you place the child safety seat, but you need to use common sensc when using one in a seat where an air bag is to deploy.
