Exclamation ASK A COP .....be kind

Hello everyone,
After reading a post in after market, window tinting #3, I thought I would offer everyone the opportunity to ask a cop questions (not about donuts, coffee, your wife) or anything funny. Hopefully officers from your state or area will read your question and answer it the best he can. I am in Texas so I will try to answer those questions the best I can..........Thanks,
Dave

Question

Ok Dave let's talk seatbelts. I have been going through the DFW Pics and notice that Tamster is sitting in the middle of the Seat. Is she wearing her seatbelt. I hope so!!!

Just giving you a hard time and maybe get this rolling.

Real Question: Helmet law in Texas. Do I have to have a certain amount of insurance or something like that???? Never go without my helmet but have plenty of friends who do.

California Cops:
I thought I heard about a new law that requires drivers to move over if the car behind them flashes their headlights to pass, assuming of course they're in the passing lane. Did this actually become law?

Question

OK Dave...see if you can help with this one. I know about cops writing tickets all too well. Some are deserved, and lets face it, some aren't. What really irks me is radar. Isn't the idea of setting a speed limit designed for traffic safety, and if so, would it not be better to have a cop out there on patrol where others can SEE them and proceed at a safe speed, rather than "waiting in ambush" so-to-speak for a person to break the speed limit and THEN write them up? I mean, speeding tickets may help the city's coffers, but the act of speeding can be damaging or deadly, and stopping a person from speeding before it starts just makes sense to me. I would think a city would be more interested in saving lives than making money (but maybe I'm a little naive here).

Any insight you can offer would be appreciated!

Regarding the "Flash to Pass"...

Our trucks are equipped with this feature. I use it to keep people out of my lane when they swerve, to notify the driver ahead of me I am changing lanes, and to let people know I am going faster than they are (hoping they will get the clue and move into a slower lane).

I have heard of people getting a ticket for impersonating a police officer because they used the flash to pass.

Is there any truth to this?

Indigo,
First all we would have to do is require govenors on vehicles so they could not go passed the stated speed limit...and fine people who messed with them, then no one would ever speed and tickets would be a thing of the past..hope that never happens.
Second, if we only drove around then the people who didnt see us would be speeding, more people see us if we are stationary. Plus its alot more fun for us to see people hitting their brakes hard to avoid the ticket. Its kinda like fishing that way.....ha ha..you only catch one at a time....even when I do pull people over, I rarely write a ticket, I usually just verbally warn then and cut them loose.
But to answer your question I really dont think anything will ever change, its a good source of revenue for the state and cities. So I dont think they will ever give it up..We dont make the rules we just enforce the ones we are sworn to uphold...
Now be nice and pay the nice man your fine...J/K

Red face

OH NO ! Not governors on vehicles ! What would a black lightning owner in SA do if he couldn't get back up to high speeds quickly after sudden stops ???? That would be terrible ! Be safer though when driving with 17 trucks so close together !

That's cool that "YOU" are one of the "Cool Cops" that gives more warnings than tickets in most cases Dave !

You really are "THE MAN" !
Now please tell us "How much over the posted speed limit" someone can go before you will pull them over ? How many "MPH" do y'all allow generally ?

I was looking at getting a window sticker that says "slower traffic keep right" in reverse*. If I get pulled over, would that kill all my chances of getting away with a warning?

*yes, i know someone else has done this already but I've been thinking of doing so for awhile. Just havent yet cause I'm afraid the ins. co. will cancel my a$$ if I get many more tickets.

Cool

What's up with this access thing when you enter in this thread. Mudder and I tried anything in it and it goes away. Almost like someone is trying to find out passwords or something. Please be careful. May want to change the personal password that you might have put in there right after you get in here.

Click on his insert & check properties....
Whatever he put in that doesn't show up on my screen is from that "Rackspace" site & it keeps crashing my browser when I hit refresh !

DAVENSA,

Hypothetically, if I wanted to check the accuracy of my speedometer would the Texas Rangers object if I buzzed through their radar at 100 mph? Just for an accuracy/safety check mind you..........

Can you order the Dallas Cowgirls to make an appearance at your next Texas rally?

OK, I have been waiting for a chance to clarify the Texas laws, not discussed in the Drivers Handbook, such as:
1) Do you have to stop for a school bus with flashing lights if you are on the opposite side of DIVIDED hwy? (ie; grassy median, city lane divider, island etc)

2)I see "U Turn OK" and "No U Turn" signs at intersections. What is the law if it is not posted? These seem like conflicting signs!

3) Construction zones with lower speed limits with double fines - what if no one is working, like weekends? People seem to not slow down in this case. Ticket or not?

4)Forget pistols, is it legal to walk around with a rifle/shotgun in a non-threatning manner? Carry one in your car? Loaded/unloaded?

These are serious questions I can't seem to get answered.

Thanks

Rule of thumb 10mph on the highway...but in residential anything over 30 goes, and school zones same thing..under is better..since I have a son, I am more aware of the childrens actions (running in the street) and the driver not being able to stop in time..higher speed rated areas are usally 10 over but I give more most of the time. You have to really be cooking for me to stop you. I really hate to write tickets for things I may be guilty of too. So its usually not the speed that make up my mind about the ticket, its the drivers attitude.

Nathan,
I wouldnt bother you at all about the sticker..I would think its funny, but thats just me...
