I still have a life with my mom, it's that she lives 200 or so miles away. I've got one with my sister too, and she lives about 400 or so miles away. I've got some friends who live 3000 miles away . . . so it can be done.
Also, there's a way to let your GF know your serious about this and that it's not negotiable without being mean or cruel. The best way to convince someone of something is to make them think they thought of the idea in the first place. She might (will) bring up the mom thing sooner or later and then throughout the conversation you can highlight all the negative points (not all at once . . . . slip them in here and there) and let her realize that mom moving in is not such a great idea and will almost certainly be detrimental to your relationship (you see . . . you care!) She will then realize that mom is not an option and will say something like "You know, we should mom find a place of her own . . ." and bingo, everyone's happy, you keep your sanity and your relationship . . .and life is good.
If however that doesn't work (50/50 chance) then eventually you're going to have to say straight out . . . NOT.GONNA.HAPPEN (but politely . . . because the last thing you want to do is make her assume a defensive position). And if that doesn't work . . . well, it's better to find out now rather than later.
Good luck-

Dude, your guess is as good as mine. Honestly, I can't believe that Walken would actually want to be Prez, let alone actually run.
Maybe someone out there in the virtual world wants him too and this is their way of having some fun.
Besides, who cares?!?!
As listed above . . . I'll accept the nomination.
So get out there and start campaigning! You started my candidacy. Don't let me down only minutes after you got it rolling!

WHOA . . . folks complaining about 2.38 a gallon . . . that was SO LAST YEAR.
All right I'll give you a serious one...
Starting a computer business on the side. Fully intend to keep my 9-5 for some time. Is it worth spending the money for liablity insurance and incorporating now or risk doing it with just a waiver and keeping it a sole proprietorship.
The incorp/insurance route protects me personally but will eat a ton of my revenue especially when starting out.
Take it safe and lose the revenue...roll the dice, maximize my pocket cash and see how it works out.

Before I comment . . . I just noticed you are in Pikesville MD. (I'm kinda slow to notice stuff sometimes) . . . My broker is in Pikesville, I was there for the first time this past summer. Rented a car in NJ and after my business there, I drove down to his office (with a stop in Philly to have real cheesesteak sandwiches at Geno's and Pat's . . . yup, one from each in one sitting . . . by the way, I do NOT reccommend this. I was so sick later that night . . . I still have a stomach ache whenever I think of it).
Anyway, having never been in Pikesville, I arrived alter in the afternoon, and then drove down Reisterstown Rd to Baltimore because I wanted to see Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Somewhere along the way (I think where the 140 turns into the 26) I zigged when I should have zagged and ended up driving thru neighborhoods where I totally stood out as the lost guy from out of town. Was not plesant for a while, but I made it to my destination.
Small world . . .
ANyway, so I guess I can assume from your comment you're not referring to starting the small computer-store storefront down the street from the mom and pop restaurant.
First, as for incorporating, it would all depend on what the tax advantages are (if any). ALso not really clear on if you must incorporate to get the insurance or what.
Not having started a business, I'm going to defer on this one and tell you that you should discuss this with your account or tax preparer, and your attorney (if you have one). If you don't, you might want to consider obtaining some kind of legal advice and find out the pros and cons of incorporating, of forming some sort of LLC and insurance and such. Forming an LLC might be something to consider, but honestly, this is why God created attorneys.
From a common sense standpoint, any time your liability exceeds your ability to handle it, you either don't do that, or find ways to cover your liability. But then again, common sense and business don't always mix.
Again . . . I say get professional help and see what you need to do and incorporate that into your business plan.
Wish I could be more help.

Nope -
Actually, everybody I know has been urging me to start writing a blog, use my incredible writing talents to offer social criticism, discuss important topics, and offer off-beat advice. This is nothing compared to what that would be.

OK kids -
I'm sitting around, staring at the phone, waiting for it to ring . . .
and stressing out in the process.
So please, ask me something, anything, to occupy me and divert my attention from waiting.

Maybe I should back off the coffee these next couple of days . . . could be stressing me out.

Well, I guess I did plead for y'all to ask anything. Thanks.
Uhhh . . . first, let me start by stating that the picture is for illustrative purposes only and is not actually "my" phone.
That said, I find it interesting that you would find that the phone in the picture resembles a "sex toy". Well, we all see what we want, which leads me to wonder just what kind of mood you're in right now . . . not for my own satisfaction, mind you, but just because I'm curious how it was that you saw the phone as a "sex toy". I mean, honestly . . . that is, well, scary.
Just out of curiosity, what would . . . you know what . . . never mind . . . I don't want to know.
Good God, no wonder your GF left. You do strange things with phones !!!
OK . . . I'm just giving you a hard time . . . no hard feelings (Oh God . . . I just made a joke . . . seriously, I didn't intend to . . . sorry).
If you think it looks like that (and especially if you want one), I suggest you take it up with the manufacturer, which would be Bang & Olufsen.
B&O is headquartered in Denmark. They are a design company/manufacturer which prides itself on unique and functional products with outstanding design.
While their stuff looks fantastic (I don't think they have a single bad looking product), my experience with their stuff has been less than stellar (not to mention the fact that their stuff is unbelievably expensive). I've owned a couple of their products . . . both were phones, and although they looked really cool, neither was all that ergonomic and they fell apart quickly (and one didn't work all that well).
Proof, that, contrary to popular opinion, looks/style isn't everything.
The phone in the pic is the BeoCom2. And like everything else B&O designs . . . it looks great. But I wouldn't get one because A) It's just way too much money for a phone, and B) Based on past experience, it would probably be unpleasant to use and fall apart quickly.
However, for how you saw it, it might be just the ticket. You might want to check it out.
B&O has retail stores. The one nearest you would be . . . let's see, you're in Westminster CO . . . so Denver (or so claims their web site).
If you get one for either purpose . . . let me know how it works.
