See, this thought pattern really dates back to the days of carburetors, when the air filter element was right on top of the engine - but that does not happen with intake kits today, they virtually all have the filter element well away from any direct heat rise from the motor - so then it simply becomes a matter of underhood air circulation, and thus at what point do you hit the threshold of enough air circulation under the hood to overcome the natural heat soak of low speed/stationary - and we do not see scoops, etc making any significant change to that, especially in sumer with hot pavement temps! Not when you actually do proper IAT datalogging & true controlled testing of this - which is not easy to do - heck, it took us the better part of 2 years to really get data I considered to be good, as we had to duplicate ambient temps & humidity levels, etc., so it was quite a challenge.
Sooo - where does this all leave us? I prefer no scoops, etc., just use the AF1's aircraft grade T304 S/S that is mirror polished on the outside ONLY, as that is what is showing us the best power gains and lowest overall IAT's - yes, even though it is "metal." It's a matter of heat rejection/shedding in the real world, not some lab materials analysis - at least, that is what our data showed us, and why several intake manufacturers have had us help them do their kit design, and also why a few of them absolute hate us, too.
For example, we tested the stock intake and the AF1 on a 2004 5.4 3V idling in summer **for an hour with hood down** with both intakes - and the AF1 gave us 6-8 degrees colder IAT's - and no, I'm not saying that all others are "bad" kits, that was just the data we got.

What were you using to monitor your IAT?
If the intake air is coming from the outside, the flow will cool and give up some of it's colder temp to the wall of the conducting medium. This raises temp in the tube.
Unless the outside ambient temp is guite low the IAT temp sensed will be somewhere in between the ambient and the heat gain through the wall of the air tube.
It's all dependent on the air speed and the outside ambient.
After the system stabilizes at some road speed time, the IAT can "approch" the outside ambient quite closely.

Thanks. I got back in from a trip for work late today and literally chased down the UPS truck to get the Edge after I found the note left on my door. I was hoping to get the Edge working again before I leave early tomorrow morning on another trip. I guess I will just have to run the stock tune for awhile.

That's according to my Edge unit and comparing it to the overhead console temp. Not saying one is better than the other....I'm just saying.....

Quick Read To Restore the newly Returned Programmed Beta Edge Unit:
1. Connect unit to Truck and rewrite your stock program - Disconnect unit
2. Start and run Truck - OK
3. Download Latest Lightning Software from Edge Website

4. Install Software and accept all conditions - Reboot may or may not be needed - My XP box did not need to - FYI
5. Connect Edge unit to USB cable and start Lightning Software - Unit will show model error -ok- in the bottom of the dialog you will see it does say "connected"
6. Click Utilities and restore Evolution - Box will appear with Seed # and blank box
7. Call Edge Tech Support 1.888.360.3343 - Explain you are doing a Beta unit restore and need a key per Rob - they will ask for the seed # and provide the key
8. Plug in the 10 digit key - enter - For those with a firewall it will FTP out to download the firmware so you may or may not need to adjust you firewall to allow this. Firmware will dl - unit will be prepared and then flashed and display when it is complete.
9. Go flash you truck again and Enjoy

Got mine back from Rob and installed yesterday. Does exactly what it was doing before I sent it to Rob and the same and only thing it has done since I first got it. It never finishes the intialization procedure. I get the disclaimer and then please wait while Evolution initializes and that stays on the screen. I have waited as long as 30 minutes and still says wait for initialization. Started over from the beginning numerous times and same results. Anyone got any ideas?
