Angry

My truck is at the dealer now for the fourth time today for vibration at highway speeds (around 75mph). I had it in twice to get my tires balanced, once to get the two front tires replaced, and today to troubleshoot and supposedly to order a drive shaft and dampner. I got a phone call saying that the conclusion is that the vibration was normal for all terrain tires ( I hardly call BFG trail TA's all terrains). That is no excuse. Every truck I have ever had has had aggressive all terrains with guess what, no vibrations. I asked him about the TSB, and he replied that there was no TSB's for my particular truck. [2004 F-150 FX4, supercrew. 3.73 LS.] There is no way that every new truck, with OEM BFG Trail TA's vibrate, especially per this thread.

Help

Where do I go from here????
Thanks in advance.

Tell your dealer there is absolutely a TSB for your truck and more on the way scheduled for release the end of this month. If they won't help call Ford Customer Service and complain or go to another dealer.

Keep a record of everything.

pawj112,

That's funny. I have the same truck and there is a driveline vibration TSB. I'm went through the TSB steps and in some instances twice.

I went to the DSB because the Ford Regional Manager & Engineer told me that the truck was within tolerance and they would not perfom any more work on my truck. I was probably the most patient person and gave the dealer plenty of oppurunties to address the issue.

Make sure you document everything!!!

Ron

Yeah, I have kept good notes and all the invoices. I am going to call ford motorcompany tomorrow to see what they can do. Earlier when I dropped it off, I also mentioned to them about the throttle lag. Apparently the tech agreed, so a new throttle body is on order supposed to be in tomorrow. So I have to go back again.........It will be interesting to see what Ford Mo. sais, and if the lag is remedied. I will keep posted......

I thought a PCM update helped the lag? I hate to see them replace it if it doesn't really help. I have the same issue and gonna have them to the PCM update.

When I first mentioned it to him, I asked him if he could check for a pcm update. I was suprised when he mentioned replacing the throttle body, I will let you know.

The PCM update addressed my throttle lag issue. You may want to suggest that to your service manager.

Vibration normal for all terrain tires???

Pawj112,

It’s funny that they had to get your tires balanced; the two front tires replaced, and then get drive shaft and dampner before they found that the vibration was "normal". I would ask them to put on some “non-all terrain” tires and prove to you that the vibration in the “all terrain” tires is normal. If the vibration went away, at least you would know to switch to some other kind of tire. Sounds like they are blowing smoke. Mine goes in tomorrow for the 3rd try at trying to fix the vibration.

I took it in today for them to take the next step, the service advisor mentioned it might be the drive shaft. They never actually replaced it. I will try the switching tires point tomorrow. Great idea, Thanks...

Maybe when we go to get parts replaced, we should mark all the suspect ones to see if they actually do it, or do they think that they have our "trust". I have allready done it, and then we will see, and that is with digital pics as well! maybe they think this old man is an idiot..............or too lazy to look........

PALongbow,

What dealer do you go to? I am just curious if that dealer has the same field service engineer as ours.

I'm scheduling my 6th visit next week with these new TSB's. I don't hold much faith guys because, 3 TSB's? Sounds like it's several things that might be causing this and it's simply a process of illimination or when our patience runs out and we do the DSB.

I'm going to allow 2 more repair attempts before they have to buy it back. That's all I have patience for. 5 visits and they have only done 4 tire re-bals, excuses that it's a normal trait to the new suspension, it might be the tire pattern, to no problem found. It's slowly getting worse now. My truck has parkensens disease! Started with vibe, now slowly getting a bit of the shakes now. At least the 05's sound like there much better.

Maybe they switched parts suppliers? At least I got a call from the dealer I bought it from once I ripped them on a recent Ford survey. Funny how they now check into the new TSB's and ask me to come back now.
