and now back to the vibration...........
Well I just came back from the dealer earlier this morning. Went in for the same vibration at highway speed as some of you guys. Sort of felt like a tire was out of balance. The service guy found me about 45 minutes later and said there was a service bulletin out from ford for this problem. Something about a vibration dampener. Anyways, special order and 5 to 10 days for the part. Hopefully, that makes my vibration go away. Just picked this up a week ago!
I went through all steps of the TSB and still have vibration. It has gotten a little worse.
tires balanced
dampner installed
drive shaft replaced
drive shaft indexed
shim kit (rack and pinion)
rear end replaced
replacement tires and rims put on the truck to see if that was the problem
My truck has been at the dealer for a total of five weeks. Still no resolution.

Question guys,
The nibble you all talk about... what is it?
I have a mild pulsing of the steering wheel pulsates back and forth about 1/4-1/2 inch maybe. Is that what you are all calling the "nibble"?

Jimmer,
I can feel the a rotational vibration (NOT A SHAKE) in the steering wheel, floor board, pedals, and the dash even vibrates. I think there may be two issues with these trucks that may or may not be related.
One being a steering wheel nibble and the other a rotational vibration.

Okay, this last time in the shop I had a new driveshaft put on. This is the third driveshaft for this truck. I took it on the highway today and the ride was bad but it was not a vibration, just a bad ride. It would shake a little and then smooth out for a while and do it again later. There was no set interval between it that I noticed. I went home and took the dampner kit off. When I took it back on the highway there was an improvement. Around town the vibration is now between 48-50 and is barely noticeable. So far I am happy, now my wife can't make machine gun noises by riding in my truck. So, to all of you who still have a bad vibration, Ford is making progress just hang in there.
Oh yeah. Now it deserves a nanner.

benb,
Did they do anything different with the new drive shaft or just install it in the orginal configuration? The dampner kit is installed on my truck and that did nothing for the vibration.

(execpt they are new with like 200 miles on them)
Or if you ever felt a pulsating brake pedal from warped roators it is like that exect on the steering wheel... Also I checked and it isn't as extream as I though in distance maybe more like 1 or 2 /32th of an inch but it feels like a 1/4"

Some one please tell me (describe) what is a nibble? I want to be sure I use the correct term with the service folks.

I took a Road Trip this weekend it was fine all the way there
[300 Miles] had a tiny tremor as I got there. Returning home today I noticed it was fine leaving & as the Day warmed up that Tremor was returning again
Seems those Damm Generals have a Tremor as they get warmer or maybe that size isn't wide enough & can't handle the Force the New Design demands of the Tires
Maybe something a little wider & higher speed rating would hold up better
NOTE: These are the Second Set the First set Failed Roadforce Balancing

This is the third driveshaft I have had and it has made a huge difference. The first was one they had at the dealership, the second one that was special ordered to help the vibration problem. This last one was one the engineer called and ordered with a new part number than the other two. I don't know if they did anything different when they put it in but it has made a great improvement. When talking with the service advisor at the dealership he did say that they had at least five trucks with this problem but he was not able to make it totally go away in any of them to this point. Mine is probably the best out of all of them.

Benb,
Are you satisfied with the results? My vibration could be considered tolerable and I havn't decided if I want to persue having the rear axle replace ( last step in TSB ). Did you have yours replace or just the driveshaft?

I am satisfied with the results. There is still a slight vibration but it is from 48-50 so it is easy to get around. The list of things they did to my truck are:
1. Replace 2 bad tires
2. Replaced driveshaft
3. Installed dampner
4. Replace rear axle/diff assembly
5. Replaced driveshaft again
6. Replaced driveshaft one more time
Every time it was in the shop they road forced all the tires.
The service dept did put on my paperwork that the vibration was still present between 48-52. Hopefully it will not get any worse.

Benb,
Thanks for the reply. Did replacing the rear axle help any or do you fell like it is mainly a driveshaft problem? I don't want to press the dealer to replace the rear if it is a waste of time.

I can say that everything they have done except putting on the dampner made some sort of difference with the vibration. One of the driveshafts they put on actually made the problem worse. I think the reason it is so hard for them to figure out how to fix the problem is because it is a combination of problems and until they affect all of them it does not make it go away. So replacing the rear end helps but, at least for me didn't get rid of it.
