This company was comissioned by Ford to make the driveline dampers to control the vibration problem. You need to file a complaint and demand a truck that does not have this problem. They will not fix it.
Sorry I don't get what you mean....
Are you saying the driveline dampeners being made won't fix the problem?
Or it is just a Band Aid?

I wonder how badly my truck would drive without them? They don't work on my truck.

I'm the person who found this news press release months ago. It was my smoking gun with the DSB. Why would Ford hire epcorp if they did not have a driveline vibration problem...?

The Epcorp relocated the orginal news press release, here is the new location.

"Visteon Corporation employed the industry's first self-contained Portable NVH Dynamometer to improve noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) on the new Ford F-150."

Here is a link to see a Hunter Road Forced Balance Machine.

Labrador,

Thanks for the information! I'll toss it into my vibe folder in case I need it in a few weeks.

Here's something I came across with a bunch of googling. Wish they went into detail about "problems".

Consumer Reports New Car Preview 2005: Survey Predicts Reliability Problems with European Luxury Models

http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=39557

The only pickup to earn the top rating is the Toyota Tundra. The new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon both scored above average-a rarity for first-year GM products. The country's best- selling vehicle, the redesigned Ford F-150 pickup, also suffered from first-year reliability problems; the previous F-150 had long been Ford's most reliable product.
And another

"Quality is our highest priority," said Angie Kozleski, spokeswoman for Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, who cited several studies showing improvements during the past four years. Yet the Consumer Reports survey placed the company's new Ford F-150 pickup in the least reliable column. Though the findings are contrary to other consumer feedback, Kozleski said Ford "will go back and see what we can learn from the results."

Vib.

Read the date on the article. That was 6 months before the first F-150 came out...

That was to keep the trucks free of vibration. Not to resolve these problems...

Gee, did you ever stop and think that Ford knew they had this problem before mass production and thought that this band-aid would "HIDE" it?

My '85 vibration free Chevy truck doesn't do it and has no kind of dampers on it. Even my 1990 Ford Bronco doesn't vibrate like this and it has no driveline dampers on it either.

They knew they had the problem so they tried to put a "quick fix" (famous Ford phrase) on it. Six months before production means that they really screwed up.

Lab, I posted this also and they pulled my post. Wonder how long yours will last. Obviously, Ford doesn't want the consumer to know all the facts. Pretty scary.

vibration

I just bought a new 2004 F150 4x4 with 3:73 rear end and the 5.4L. The truck was in the shop 3 times with less than 300 miles on it for a vibration at 55 mph that could actually be heard as a slight rumble in the cab. At around 62 mph, the high pitched vibration would stop but the steering wheel would start to shake around 68 mph. The first two times they balanced the tires. The dealer was going to replace the tires but Ford would not let them. The third trip to the dealer, the Engineer ordered what we thought were new axles (two weeks ago). Today the dealer called and said a whole new rear end to include the calipers and pads was delivered. They will install the rear end Friday.

I'm still amazed at what POS trucks Ford is mass producing. Tell them to give you a new truck (better yet, your money back and go buy Japanese). Your truck is no longer new once they replace all those parts. Remember to do your civic duty and file a complaint to get these trucks recalled. See below.

I actually called Ford and the dealer and told them that I did not feel comfortable with having to do this kind of work on a new truck. I told them I wanted a new one. The dealer said there was nothing they could do but trade with me. I told them I was very familiar with the Georgia Lemon Law and I would use it before I took another financial loss. I am getting tired of paying good hard earned money out to get these kind of headaches in return. We do not buy new cars to spend 1/3 of our time in the shop.

I'm with you. You're going to have to jump through their hoops or get a lawyer. Also, if the dealer wont fix it they are in breach of contract under the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...#Magnuson-Moss)
Check it out.

Make sure you file complaints at the sites below.

no more steering wheel nibble...

I must apologize because I thought I was a member of the vibe tribe with the steering wheel shimmy/nibble. But as it turns out, it was the tires for me.

I say this b/c I just hit 6000 miles and I rotated my tires and the shimmy/nibble is totally gone. This tells me that the two front tires were not balanced.

I have to look into this. But I have not vibes/shimmy or nibbles at all. Just a head's up for those with the steering wheel nibble.
