Just a tremendous job Pat, and thanks for taking the time to document it for all of us to follow.

Peace!
Thanks!! I always enjoyed the big/popular forum days and digging through massive build threads. Glad I can finally contribute back in the same way!

Patman, @Patman

Been awhile but I have a question and sorry but I didn't wade all the way through this thread.

The 2003 has the SCP J1850 (+\-) Bus while your new PCM runs on the newer CAN Bus. Were there any issues between the two protocols at the instrument cluster? Unlike you I'm using the Copperhead PCM from Ford Performance but that shouldn't make any difference with there being no difference with connecting the two protocols together. My CAN Bus manual says there's no problem with this, it will read the SCP format but the SCP info doesn't quite say that.

Also, with mixing the different modules did you have any issues with module case grounds? I assume not but I need to ask beforehand. Chassis and module reactive grounds should be no problem unless you have something to add?

I'd really appreciate any information you could pass along with my questions. Thank you.

The two CAN ndtworks (2003 and 2015) are not connected. There's actually several CAN busses on the 2015, everything is vehicle independent. I have two harnesses in the vehicle, they are only interconnected in a few places of signals or inputs

I used existing grounds bolts, and made sure that i utilized all of the grounds in rhe 2015 harness

OK and interesting. How did you handle something like the speed sensor then? The signal is PCM generated for both PCM's. I assume this is generically true since the wiring manuals for the vehicles show cruise control whether installed or not. Voss who owns Copperhead wrote my CAN Bus manual and he states that since 1996 the application level of the CAN or OBDII will read the earlier OBDII CAN signals except for the extended CAN signals but that doesn't matter. They're primarily used in body applications for purposes like traction control. I don't have it.

You are right on about all the different modules and CAN's but they are all OBDII at the application level. Signal format is created at the application level.

On my build, like yours my engine will run on the Copperhead PCM but everything else will run on the original modules. But I'm no electrical or computer engineer and get most of my information from reading and talking. My biggest concern is getting the Copperhead PCM generated signals to the instrument cluster like the VSS and tach. The signals that come directly from the sensor through the GEM are no issue.

I read that you used Auto Meter for your cluster and my plan is Dakota Digital but I want to ensure everything is working first. I hope I'm making this clear and makes sense? Again, thank you for your input and help.

Autometer is only trans and water temps

I'm using 2015 cluster, so VSS and Tach are already handled....

Way behind on updates. Got new lighter weight wheels, followed by some sticky performance tires

I just noticed that the wheels on the newer F150 are basically 6 spoke version nod to the Lightning 5 spokes on Fiddy.

Yup. Was neat that they complimented eachother, but I'm only one guy, and cant drive two trucks together anywhere 🤣

The 03-04 lightning wheels are 4ish pounds lighter per wheel, which is pretty substantial weight savings in unsprung and rotational mass. Also ditched the heavier Pirelli P-Zero runflat tires. Not sure the exact savings on those. But the truck feels SOOO much better! It just glides down the road now. I wish I made the changes sooner
