If you're gonna make some serious ponies do up the trans first like I'm doing.

Do up the trans eh? I doubt I'll see enough power with headers alone for it to matter, but I'm curious what you are doing to your M50D. AFIK, there isn't shat available for the Mazda POS besides Royal Purple and the soon to be extinct Hurst short-throw.

Thanks for the link jbrew. I did some measuring and eyeballing under there last night. The driver's side looks like cake, but that pass. side seems next to impossible for any longtube setup. The starter, the motor mount, and the front / rear upper control arm joints all appear to be in the way. There are several spots in there with the factory manifold where I can barely get a finger between them.

Anyone have the 4.6L cam alignment procedure handy? Is there a Haynes / Chilton available that's worth a damn for tearing into the top end? I at least need torque values, etc.

Work will begin 3/20.

In reading that thread jbrew, (nice daughter BTW, LOCK HER UP) I think you mentioned applying anti-seize to both sides of the exhaust gasket...is that right?

No, I used the cheap gaskets that came in the Pacesetter kit. With those gaskets - it's required that you us Permemtex RTV High Heat Orange with Copper on both sides - right before install. I used that stuff on my EGR and mt old factory O2 bungs in the rear - around the top - to seal them up. Great stuff!!

Thanks for the compliment about my daughter - I'll be sending her off to the monestary after graduation.

I see...thanks for clearing that up for me jbrew. Which manual would you recommend? Specifically for the headgasket R&R and cam alignment procedure. Is there something more specific to the 4.6L PI Romeo?

Is Alldata superior? I didn't realize it was only $25 / yr.

Cool

HI!... I've only run the FORD MOTORSPORT headers gaskets. Never had one leak or blow out. No RTV required.

I no have no Mazda POS. The trans was going to have to be done any way sooner or later. It works well with the hottest tune I have and the more I pump in the less I worry about it. If I decide to super charge with big boost it will be ready. Any way it barks the tires now.

Neal, is there any issue running the OEM manifold gaskets with headers? I noticed that the OBX gaskets that came with the headers looks quite different, covering the entire flange of the headers.

Do your OEM gaskets have bumps/folds in between the ports? This allows for expansion. Header gaskets are flat because the flange is usually flat and doesn't have provisions for the bump.

Actually the $25 is one time fee. After that , it's $14 annually per vehicle.

It's cheaper getting an actual Ford DVD on ebay - that's what I recommend for a manual. ALLData is handy tho. It's vehicle specific and all TSB's/recalls are listed and organized in a way which makes it easy to find - pertaining to a certain concern.

It's worth the money IMO. My service DVDs are originals from Ford. My first one was $9 on eBay. I just received two more DVDs from a very cool member on this site (thanks again btw). I would look on eBay for a service DVD.

If you want a certain procedure , PM me and I'll email to you..I beleive you need a Cam locking tool for what your refferring to. That's the easiest way I here. - JMC would know. But the procedure I have, calls for it.

When the heads were installed on your engine. What was used to hold the cams in place? I remember a crescent wrench and vice grips......
