Project GO FAST is now in progress!!!
Mine is a 160 amp... well, was. And I didnt bypass anything. my electrical system is pretty much stock besides the lightning alternator. Stripping the rotors really doesnt do anything. they were just flaking a little so I finished it off.
Huh, Did you pull the regulator ? I'm just curious what the brushes look like - If theres any left ? I know you had to of have smoked the windings, but why? Do you have an inline fuse on the alt harness? Stock is 20 amp. - Not sure if that stands with your set up tho. ?

Edit - I think this is why Joey - Posted by a volunteer fireman
Running a high output alternator, upgrading your harness is an absolute must. The stock wiring is too small and can easily melt and catch your engine on fire. Then people like me get to come and jam a nozzle through your hood and fill your engine bay with water.
Anyway, it's called the Big Three (BIG 3) upgrade. Here's a quote on it -
The Big Three upgrade, simply put, is upgrading the main three electrical charging wires in a vehicle's electrical system. These wires are the power wire from the alternator to the battery positive, the engine block to a ground, and the battery negative to a ground.
Here's a good "how to" - Best I could find, not a Ford, but it gives you the general idea -

BTW - Have you tried the electrical forum ? I bet SScully could tell you exactly what happened.

Thanks. It's starting to make sense what happened. Yea a 160 AMP using a 90/130 harness. Hell, you may have to upgrade the harness to run a 130 if the truck didn't come with. I learned something.
What do you have ? Still running the stocker?

Yea , I know - BIGGER problems there. I hope you get it worked out.
LOL - Actually there is such a device - Current drives thru 3 good size capacitors. Each is roughly the size of a pop can. That's some storage
What's it used for ? Absolutly nothing as far I know, besides the movies.
BTW - Nice sig Klitch, I gotta get one someday.
