Now all recordings are different, but usually the drummer sits center stage...so in my truck it sounds like the kick drum is pumping away out on the middle of the hood with the symbols up near the center rear-view. Base guitar will be in a different spot from electric guitar, multiple vocalists can be picked out in different spots on the dash. Its hard to really explain, but once you sit in a vehicle with it you will see...and you will WANT!

Without this tuning, it just sounds like a jumble of sound coming from down in the doors...usually more from the left since that speaker is far closer to the driver than the right side speaker.
Makes sense. Now I want hahah but i dont have the cash to make it happen.

No they are in phase. But I do have my tweeters mounted much deeper on the dash then the sails. The farther forward the speakers are, the deeper the stage presence. They are also pointed toward the opposite listener to get them more on-axis. In the sails, the driver's side tweeter is about 60 degrees off axis from the driver, thats very far off and hurts response.

At one point during testing, I taped my mids up down deep in the kick panels and tuned it...wow. Stage depth was ridiculous with all the speakers that far forward. But I hunt, fish and work out of my truck and speakers in the kick panels would get trashed, so back in the doors the mids went.

I have since painted the pods, but here they were during my testing trials:

Thoughts on qlogic kick panels for our trucks? Better than door mounted?

I checked out the qlogic website. Looks like pretty cool stuff.

But for me if i put speakers down on the floor like that they would raped by shoes, dirt, snow, salt.

mSall,

How about a pic of your headunit and center bezel. I want to see how a single din looks compared to a ddin.

Thinking about a Pioneer P99 if I can find one.

Had a little mishap a week and a half ago. I was messing around and ended up damaging the passenger side Massive Ck6 mid. When playing it was making a really bad buzzing sound. I am in the process of getting a factory replacement but I couldn't wait and had the opportunity to get something I have been wanting to try.

Bought a set of Hybrid Audio Legatia L6 mids. Just installed them and I like them a lot. The Massives are really good and play deep. However the HAT L6 have a better extension above 3khz.

Made new baffles out of 5/8 MDF and painted them with rattle can flat black to keep any water out. Will be sealing the doors in the near future now that it isn't 105 degrees during the day.

After listening to a car, a few days ago, with a HAT front stage I am serious thinking about replacing the Focal TNB tweeters with HAT L1 R2 Pros.

I have a feeler in the TK5 to make some plastic tweeter baffles that will get the Focals point up towards the rear view mirror instead of down towards the head unit. We will see how that changes how they sound and I might not want to replacement them quite so soon.

I still really need a Digital Signal Processor. I was holding out for the Fosgate 3sixty.3 but I am tempted to try the miniDSP. They are now offering a 12v power filter that should cut out the electrical noise they are notorious for.

Anyway the next steps will be documented as always. Just depends on what the budget allows and what comes up for sale next.

Looks like a blow threw. It's basically where you extend it into the bed to have more room for speaker area, amps, etc.

Legatias look good. I would look at a processor before dropping money on the overpriced (IMO) hybrid tweeters. Much more of a performance gain for the money. like 100x more.

I am trying to hold out for the new 3sixty.3 but I am really tempted to give the miniDSP a try now that they have a regulated power supply.

I could get the 2x4 with plugin and external power supply for under $175. It would give me all the goodies, TA, 31 band per channel, parametric, up to 48 crossover.

Only problem is it seems to be hit or miss on the miniDSP. Before there was lots of noice and it didn't send a very high signal out.

Might be worth the money to try.

If I remember correctly the height on the left side was 18" and total length was 42". I started the L cutout at 28" or 28 1/2" measured from the left side.

Thanks,
You just saved me the teardown of the back seat and everything. I'll just order based on you numbers. I'll use 3/8 thick plastic instead of MDF, and the same for all speaker adapters. Got 2 old school Soundstream amps plus Alpines Imprint module to fit, it should work with plenty left.

Cheers,
Tommy
