Lincoln Factory Nav and Backup camera hook up?

You guys seem like you are dialed in to Ford. I've got a Lincoln Navigator 2006with factory navigation, DVD is on passenger side of console for nav system.

Questions:

1. Can I wire a backup camera to the Lincoln nav system display AND,
2. can I wire it to come on when I put the gear selector in reverse?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Jeff

Does the Navigator's Head unit have a Backup Cam feature that you can select? If not, you can hook the cam up to a AV input.

You can get 12V power from the taillights(which will activate the cam), then feed 2 video wires from the cam up to the headunit. I would go with a aftermarket cam as it will be much cheaper than the F-150 camera that is specific for a tailgate application.

Thanks, I'll have to look at the head unit. A local audio installer is looking into it for me too. The Ford navigation systems are Denso units and there seems to be a little discussion on the GM boards that the rear view cam does not work with this unit. At least on GM units.

I'll start looking.

Here is a link to my thread, I discuss my 08 cam mod. It has the information you need to do the mod you want. Basically, there is a reverse signal wire in the mirror harness. When the vehicle is in reverse 12v is sent through this wire to power on the monitor. You could tap into that reverse wire with 12v switched to power it on whenever you want.

Apparently there are no inputs on the Lincoln nav system. I found these links that may help someone on this board. I have not tried these products. Note: scroll down to see all vehicle makes for the Interfaces. they have cameras too.

I just purchased a Pioneer ND-BC2 backup camera off E-Bay and the NavTool NavTool off E-Bay. I've got a local installer who said he would install for me. So I will report when I get it in and installed. Probably second week in June by the time I get everything.

I have the Lincoln factory nav system.

Does Tasca have any more connections diagrams for the ends of the different wiring looms?

OK, the Navtool http://cgi.ebay.com/Lincoln-Navigato...QQcmdZViewItem came in but the Pioneer camera is still enroute.

I went ahead and installed the Navtool and it is plug and play (with original equipment Lincoln nav system), had to wire one blue wire to reverse wire Black with Pink stripe on back of original harness that comes out of the back of the Nav DVD player. Everything works and when I put the vehicle in reverse the screen goes blank for the camera input. If you want to wire another video source into the Navtool and Nav screen there are two more wires you have to splice in.

I'll report on the rest of install when I get camera next week. Total cost $220 plus $180 for the Pioneer camera with shipping. You can get cheaper cameras but I did not want to chance it.

NavTool and Pioneer camera are installed and work, just have to install camera on back of vehicle and run wires, the hard part.

This is one reason I have the sensers and the camera. Any time Im backing up in my driveway or pulling out I make sure both my kids get put into the house or come in the truck.
