Camera install ?s

I have tried to find the most recent post regarding the rear camera mod, and have a few questions. Is the original camera you had installed in the tailgaet handle from ebay? Is the camera you have now Ford OEM? Was the camera from ebay poor quality? Which wiring harness part # 's did you end up using and how did you connect the camera to power, head unit etc? Sorry about all the questions but it looks like you installed 2 different cameras. thanks

I bought the OEM tailgate handle and installed an aftermarket camera from E-bay, but then I decide to get the OEM camera with the OEM handle. I just cut the camera connector off the camera and wire it. Red for power, Black for ground, white for video + and video -.

Is the OEM camera worth the $200 vs $30 Ebay camera? Can you see your hitch ball w/ the OEM tailgate camera mount. Thanks

Not to hijack, but I did the factory handle/cam with my own wires at the bottom of the gate up to the D3. In this pic you can see my bumper as well as my emblem. My ball is not in the tow position at the time.

I used trailer disconnects if I wanted to take off the gate.

I don't think I could own another truck without a cam now that I am spoiled.

I think the OEM camera is worth the money, but you could get almost the same effect from the e-bay camera. I could see my hitch with both cameras, but the OEM Camera is 10 times better and clearer, plus the field of view with the OEM camera is bigger. It's up to you which one you want to use.

The OEM camera and handle is definitely the way to go and Tasca Ford helped me plenty. With a 2005 you'll have to do some metal cutting on the tailgate to allow clearance for the OEM camera. Even with a dremmel its a pain in the butt so, take your time. I wish I could show you some pictures, but my ride got jacked a week ago. I am currently waiting for the insurance check so I can buy another 2005 F-150 and do the mod all over again. Hurray!!!

Has anyone wired the camera (switchable) for driving forward as well as reverse? Would there be any damage to the camera? This could be very handy while driving, towing, etc. Thanks!

Well, its very easy. If you are using the factory screen, just hit it with 12v anytime you want to see the camera. Now, I do recommend inserting diodes so, its not backfeeding power and causing issues.

Aftm screen: Keep 12v running to the camera and either hit the reverse wire with 12v and diode it OR if the unit allows, switch the screen over to it and VOILA!

Does anyone have part numbers for the auto dimming mirror with the backup screen embedded in it? Does either of TascaFordParts or F150PARTSGUY carry it?

Thanks

does anyone know if it is possible to hook up the '09 backup camera (one in the for emblem) to an '07 150? I currently do not have the backup camera. I have the factory nav unit. If it is possible, what all would i need to install it?

I just bought a backup cam off ebay and want to hook it up to my avic700, first question, I have yet to do much to the truck since I just got it a few months ago, and I didn't see a need to start a new thread. I have a few questions, where is the best place to get the RCA wire from the camera into the truck? Also, is there anywhere inside the cab, that is easy to get to that can be used for the reverse trigger? Instead of running the wire all the way back to the lights? And the last one, I know you can power the camera from the reverse lights, but is there a switched 12v back there by chance?

Thanks for any help!!

go to wal-mart and in the car audio section look for the roll of 25 ft RCA for 10 bucks.

the black/pink wire under the drivers sill plate is the rev trigger(NOT BROWN AND PINK AS I MADE THAT MISTAKE)

Trailer plug is switched 12v (if you have towing package) look on the cover and it will tell you the wire to use

There is a grommet at the rear of the vehicle in the sill plate (both on drvr and pass side.) Put the wires through that.
