Trailer plug is switched 12v (if you have towing package) look on the cover and it will tell you the wire to use

Awesome, thanks for the info, this will make it a lot easier!

OK, so I just ran the RCA wire, I was unable to find the switched 12v The only thing I have for towing if the standard 4 prong wire, but I see it goes into a much bigger connector with a few other wires, would the switched be back there? Also the black and pink of course I guess is all the way in the bottom of that wire loom?? haha I found the brown and pink, oh well more digging in there tomorrow.

2008 F150 OEM Backup Camera

I got the backup camera and mirror in and it works great. Thanks to my Ford buddy (and of course to you) who came to my house and helped, we got it installed in about 2-3 hours. The hardest part was getting the front part of the headliner loose and getting the new harness in. Fortunately it was no problem for my Ford Tech friend.

Here’s the entire part list:

8L3Z-19G490-A CAMERA
8L3Z-9943400-CG TAILGATE HANDLE
8L3Z-14A411-A TAILGATE CAMERA WIRE ASSEMBLY
8L3Z-13A409-CA WIRE ASSEMBLY
8L3Z-13A576 WIRE ASSEMBLY
8L3Z-14334JA WIRE ASSEMBLY
8U5Z-17700-L MIRROR

So we put in a new harness basically for the taillights and license plate lights, the trailer light plug harness, installed the camera, the jumper harness from the camera to the new taillight harness. Replaced the one harness from the mirror, lighted visors and satellite radio antenna. The main loom under the truck and behind the glove box had the wires in them all ready for the camera so the new harnesses just plugged in.

The picture and illumination of the camera is so nice, I’m glad I went with the OEM installation.

I just purchased and installed a camera from 4ucam.com. I'd recommend it. So far I'm happy with it. It's one of the few cams where the monitor turns off when in drive. It's wireless, so it does sometimes pick up interference, but overall I'm very happy with it. For only $100 it's definately a good price. The best part is that it comes with the IR illuminators making seeing in pitch-black night very easy, something other cams in that price range don't have.

Because I insisted on hiding all the wires the install was a bit more complicated because I had to run wires under the dash, but had I just chosen to do a generic "surface" install it probably would have been an easy 1-hour install.

Has anyone installed the emblem camera on an older model (06)? The wiring seems straight forward (now that I've read the posts). I thought I could just pull the plate off of the inside of the tailgate and have room to work. No luck... I guess my first step is removing the old emblem. Is it bolted, snapped or glued on? and is there a hole behind it or will I need to cut it out?

Thanks in advance for any help.

no. i bought one off ebay before i looked in the tailgate, the new tailgates must be different, it cant be done, unless u go custom and cut up the tailgate. there is a crossmember in the 2004-2008 models. with that crossmember u wont be able to wire it or mount it.

Why was the taillight harness (8L3Z-13A409-CA WIRE ASSEMBLY) required?

Sorry, haven't one hear since I posted. You will need all those looms so everything plugs together for the OEM installation. I still love my backup camera installation. About $1200.00-$1300.00 total cost.

See above for part numbers and no the factory camera doesn't have RCA plugs, just a four pin plug if I remember correctly.
