is that reason for ticks and what not?

Boxers rule!

+500 on the boxer. Thsi is my second one and I wil never have another dog. They are great companions, easy to train and great with kids. They love to play which I am a big kid anyway.

Good for you Stealth.
In as much as you're my mortal enemy here, anyone that rescues an animal is ok in my book.

We have 6 dogs (4 have been rescued)

ticks, dirt, stickers, cleaning, water, mud, gunk, grease and grime. Just all around easier to take care of. My pit still picks up a tick here or there, but I can see em right away. Cleaning and washin him is a breeze ! Not much hair for stickers or anything to cling onto. Short hair like Boxer, like a pit, like Jack russell, etc etc are just easy. Shedding isn't an issue either.

My first dog was a basset hound. might be my next. Little more maintenance, but awesome dogs ! Laid back, and chill.

Pornstar: awesome lookin dog ! Gotta love the brindle look. Boxers are great dogs ! Love em.

Whatever breed you decide, I would highly encourage you to rescue one. This picture is our rescued dog with one of our rescued cats. They appreciate a good home!

our greyhound when she was younger used to chase squirrels it was bad ***. she would see one out the window, run to her doggy door, slowly creep out, creep into the grass and get close and then haul *** at it. never got one tho but it was fun to watch.once we moved from texas to pennsylvania and didn't have many squirrels she stopped doing it and has not done it since
They can easily jump on the couch. They can jump up to the bed too without assistance. The smaller one can jump pretty high and is fearless. We do have a chest in front of the bed so they can jump up there when they need to get in the bed.

I'll tell you, that Rat Terrier of mine can really jump. They have springs for legs. Mine can jump about 4' straight up from a standstill.

Then don't get a dachshund. You don't want them jumping up onto furniture and beds because they get back problems if you have them doing that. It is just because they are so long that it puts lots of stress on their backs. They are notorious for slipping discs or some other problem from jumping on and off stuff too much.

Even with a miniature ( I have never owned one, only standard) I can imagine that after years of jumping up and down it isn't too good and they will eventually pull something, and you don't want to have to see your pet in pain and not able to stand up. I would play it safer and get something that can jump without getting hurt.

Miniatures don't have as much mass to them as the standards (if that makes sense), so they don't have as much back problems.

Get a rescue it is the only way to go. Do not let the dam thing on anything but it's own dam bed or the floor. Why does a dog need to be on a bed or furnitue??? it is dumb and a bad habit. Be the alpha male and you dog will folow you into any situation. Let em lay around on the dam couch and your on your own buddie....

Hab's you sure thems dogs??? they are soooooooooooo cute

Thanks Buckey, yes all six belong to us.
We never 'planned' on rescuing so many, it kinda just happened.

The food isn't that expensive, maybe $100 bucks a month, what gets to be pricey are the Vet bills which anymore is becoming quite the racket.

why wouldn't i want my dog on furniture? never had a problem with them, and its nice and dogs enjoy being with their owners, im not gonna sit on the floor so my dog can sit with me. if i had a bigger dog i might consider not allowing them on furniture but with a small dog i dont see any problem.

You have to realize, Bucky is just a step above the pack himself.

It is great to see so many on this forum who both own and love dogs.
