Trucks owned by High Schoolers

We get it, you had to work hard and now you think you're better for it. In reality, the bitterness is outweighing whatever benefit "working for it" may have brought you
My parents got me a new Ranger in high school, only because the hand me down car I had was totaled (not my fault). By 21 I made enough to buy my own $36k msrp F150, drop 11k into it, and then by 22 I bought my 2006 Focus. All the while maintaining dean's list grades, building credit to well above the national average, and getting work experience that you can't put price on.
Fancy that, one of those spoiled kids and I turned out ok...still working my butt off after all

I never said I was better for anything but if you feel inferior for what I said because mommy and daddy gave you a new truck, well, too bad.
That wasn't the point. My point was earning something causes more pride in what you have. Even if you get handed a new truck you can still treat it as a reward vs just running the dog$h17 out of it. It's not having everything you want, it's wanting everything you have.

During HS i would borrow my moms jeep if i needed to go somewhere. I graduated in 04 and bought my truck used in Oct of 04. i paid 5k to a family member. i pay for all mods, gas, and insurance. After i paid the truck i bought a new 4wheeler. when that is paid for next may, i save and buy me a 09 f150.
When i first got my liscence i had a 1989 licoln continental that cost me $500. After working for a year i had enough money to put a down payment for a truck. I bought a my 2002 with 40000k on it for $17000. I have not missed one car payment of $350 a month nor insurance payment of $300 a month. I have put all the mods(15,000k) on with my own money. I have been workin 6 days a week 60 hrs a week to pay for this truck and all its mods. IM 18 and just graduated high school and will be going to the university of new england in biddeford, ME for physical therapy in the fall.

This was my dads truck. Bought it used. And a few years later he gave it to me. I just graduated. And so far It has Winston A/T's and American Racings Baja's. Cherry Bomb Pro Muffler. And AEM BruteForce
I'm 16, gonna be a junior in HS.
Paid cash for the truck + TTT, parents are gonna pay for insurance as long as my GPA stays up though. i have a 4.3 so far.
Since i paid for the truck up front i've just gotta pay for gas and any mods i wanna do, so i'm pretty happy.

1997 F150 XLT 4x4 all stock for now, except the amp and the 10" sub that came in it. Hopefully plenty of mods to come

Well all i got to say is as life comes at u, the way you handle things makes who you are and no one knows what you've earned or how hard you have worked for something sept for you, so as long
as u treat ur f150 better then anything else i dont have a problem

The parts I miss the most are the exhaust and my remote starter. When I walked out to my truck in high school and I saw people right next to it I'd start her up and with the exhaust they'd literally jump back
Man all these trucks look good. Im gonna be a junior in HS. Check out my gallery for my truck. Mom bought me the truck as an early grad present. Got the truck completely stock and I put all the aftermarket stuff on it.

I drove a rusted out 1981 4 door cavalier in highschool that would start with no key. That I had to buy for $100.
But if my parents would have offered to buy me whatever sweet car or truck I wanted I woulnd't have stopped them. So, I don't see much point in talking about other peoples financial situations on here and keep it focused on the trucks. Just my $0.02
Ah... very nice.
Guess I should add that I don't pay for all of the insurance on my truck. But, seeing as how I'm paying for ALL of my college, all of my gas, every single mod I'ev ever done (asked for tinted windows for Christmast one year, they laughed) insurance on the boat, etc, it works out.

Me, feel inferior? Laugh, hardly buddy...my life has everything I could ever ask for and then some- I've been blessed. Like I said, you completely missed the point of what I posted...you are trying to claim being given a truck somehow changes people for the worse? That SCREAMS of ignorant jealousy.
Look how many guys on here posted about how they were given either a whole truck, or a portion from their parents and they are out there busting their butts working. I have a better work ethic than damn near anyone I know, and that is because my parents told me to be thankful for what I have, and was given. I was my dad's "b!tch" whenever he needed help around our houses, and I made sure to earn that truck as best I could. I owed it to my parents, and myself to do well in school, work, and life...and I have.
Sorry buddy, but you're just flat wrong.

**Oh, and your cmment about how kids given trucks will abuse them and not take care of them? My Ranger was 3 years old when I sold it and people reglarly congratulated me on my "new truck." I sold a 3 year old Ranger for $13,500... only a 5 grand hit INCLUDING TTL. You don't get that price without havin one hell of a mint truck...

Huh
My first truck was a 71 Ford Maverick! My folks paid for 1/2 of it - about $700. I paid for the other half and all maintenance. I also paid for all the mods - new battery, Kmart tape deck, used 23 channel CB, chain and padlock on the hood after someone tried to steal said new battery.
My "truck" was used for camping, fishing, hauling tons of junk back and forth to college (Va Tech from NJ), and of course, my prom date. I spent all day polishing the dents out of it
I have to ask, (1) where are you young guys getting $15,000 for "mods" (let alone the truck) and (2) How wise is it for a 16 year old to spend $15,000 + price of truck - on a truck???
I'm 44, and after all these years (I did have a new ish Toyota 4x4 in college that I paid for w/ savings bonds and working), I finally have a nice truck - Expedition. But that Ex is bought used with limited mods mostly to improve performance. I have the Ex because I have 6 kids and need the versatility. Either way, It took me a long time and I still probably can't afford to own it
I just am greatly concerned about the wisdom of such young people dumping such huge amounts of hard earned $$ into something that ultimately does not last. How about using that $$ to pay for college, or, if not college, a downpayment on a house?
I wish I had it to do over. I would have made many decisions about finances differently.
At 16, with the ultimate 4x4 machine in your possesion, where do you go from here?
