Considering just about everything we like to do is either fatening, illegal, immoral or causes cancer, It's tough trying to stay healthy. I just read an article about cancer that the main chemical in antifreeze is found in over 600 household items. I found it in my toothpaste and even a cake I bought at the store. My wifes deodorant and other household items. Heck, i started looking at the ingredients of some of the things we use on a daily basis, cleaners, shampoos, and even food. They have more chemical crap(which can't even be pronounced)in them than anything. It's a shame I never realized it or even cared to pay attention to. These are products that we grew up with, that we use on a daily basis or even have a daily 2-3 time regimen. I work at a hospital and constantly scan people with Cancer and wonder WHY they have not found a cure. Also it's cheaper to buy these FRANKENSTEIN foods than healthy whole grain products. WHY?? to keep making the money and increasing stock sales. make rich people richer at the expense of others dying.
The foods have additives to make them addicting, why do people drink soda more than water, and Aspartame has 91 illneses linked to it including death but people love the natural sweeteners and diet soda, Phenylalanine, and sugar alcohol derivatives. Autopsies performed showed high levels of fermaldahyde in patients who consumed artificial sweeteners. Their toxin is compounding. Also test have shown that DISTILLED water is bad for the system because it has no nutrients so it absorbs them from your body when you urinate. Or that 4 out of 5 doctors do not warn their patients about the harmful side effects the drugs they prescribe may cause.(clots, seizures, tumors, diarrhea, impotence, osteoporosis, thyroid and chemical imbalances, liver and renal failure).. SO, what can we do when we have been TRAINED and CONDITIONED to consume these foods in large quantities and we wonder why some children are born with abnormalities and why 9 out of 10 americans is OBESE, not fat, OBESE, that means you are over 30 pounds your ideal weight. When The cure for polio was found it nearly placed pharmaceutical companies and the medical community treating polio out of business, SO it is in the companies best interest to keep us addicted to these foods so stock can go up, and hooked on drugs so that we need them on a daily basis, and then we sit back and wonder what the heck is going on and why we haven't lost weight and one of the biggest problems in the U.S. DEPRESSION. Kind of like the majority of people I have spoken to HATE taxes; YET the government spends on lobster dinners and limousine rides and special GALA events for themselves and billion dollar ships and million dollar a piece bombs dumped by the thousands while social security is on the brink of bankruptcy and none of us does anything about it. OH WELL. we gotta do what we can to keep going. Just a thought for those reading this thread.

Well, I have no comment on the political chit.

Since this is an encouragement thread, I am keeping it coming!!

Just want to tell everybody to get out there and do some form of exercise. Do something. If it is no more than a couple fast walks around the block and some stretching, and arm swinging! Just do it!!

Trust me, you will be better for it!!

I have found that sports like football, basketball, volleyball or racquetball or soccer, games where firends, family or neighbors can get together and play help take your mid of the PHYSICAL aspect of weight loss and allows you to enjoy yourself, without counting how many reps you've done or how many laps you've completed, and before you know it, with enough activity as part of your daily routine, you'll lose weight. It should be a part of your DAILY routine. ands keep it up.

Good point.. those games carry a lot of cardio with them too. Also, I would include some stretching, and warming up they help to avoid injury.

There are so many forms and aspects of exercising that IMO, there is no excuse to not do some.

I have a kina wierd story.
I weighed 135 when I entered University in 1970. I was really into gymnastics and bulked up to 150. When I left after that first year, I dropped back to 135 and stayed there until about 2000. Then I suddenly, and alarmingly, beefed up to about 175. I'm 5'6", so at that weight, I looked like a pear. Since then, I've been on a rollercoaster, without dieting, going from 155 to 175 within a couple of months, then within another couple of months, I'll drop back to about 155. What's with that? I eat normally, but at the moment, I'm trying desperately to quit smoking. I'm down to about 3 or 4 a week now.

I believe smoking suppresses your appetite. Also if you have problems with weight loss without dieting, loss of appetite you could have problems with your pancreas. I noticed when I smoked I lost weight and when I stopped I had to find something to do so I ended up eating differently. Just got to do it cold turkey or else I will never do it. That's just me. Definitely get a check up because weight loss without exercise or dieting and loss of appetite could be a problem. Hope you're well. Good luck

I've been reading these posts and decided to post my results. Back in June of this year, June 23, 2005 to be exact, I weighed 258 pounds. I was drinking 5-6 Mountain Dews everyday, eating Burger King, McDonalds..etc every lunch period. Getting malts and blizzards from Dairy Queen at least twice a week and consuming large quantities of food. 3000-4000 calories a day. All of this with no exercise. My back would hurt every morning and muscles would get soar from doing anything fun that I wanted to do.
Since June, I have not had any Burger King or McDonalds fast foods. I have also cut soda out of my daily fluid intake. I will have a shake or blizzard every 3-4 weeks as a treat to myself, along with chocolate or some type of sweets. I'm at the gym every morning now, running between 4-6 miles depending on the day and lifting light weights. I've now lost 93 pounds and I'm down to 165. I'm 5'8" tall and feel great!
I still get the cravings to have pizza or some type of high fat food, but I usually stay busy so I'm not bored and think about eating. I think that is where a lot of over eating can come from. Sitting in front of the TV or not having anything to do makes my cravings for sweets and junk food just come alive.

Keep up the good work everyone!

You are doing it guy.

Once you start exercising and the good results and the good feeling kicks in, the habit takes over. Your body starts craving for exercise, and your body rewards you back with a super good feeling. Looks are a by-product of exercising. Good health is the #1 goal.

Sir, you are my hero.

I think the full moon had an odd effect on me this month (but I'm not going to complain about it). I ate out 4 times for lunch last week, only "worked out" once and still managed to drop down to 172! I haven't been 172 since before I got prego with my first child (over 4 years ago now).

I am still feeling confident that I will make my goal by the time summer rolls around again.

Dude, you need to see a doctor with a condition like that. I'm not in any medical field, but the military teaches us enough about health and conditioning to know when something doesn't sound right, and your situation doesn't sound right. On the other hand, congrats in your efforts to stop smoking. I'll tell you exactly what I tell my wife when she complains about my habit: "It may be bad for my health, but sometimes it's good for yours."

well, its been awhile since i posted on this topic, i hit a high weight of 424 on september 19th, i was having extreme difficulty breathing, i had no energy and i was taking 3 different meds for blood pressure ( 15 tablets in all )...my doctors and i had been discussing gastric bypass surgery since march of 05, and i have done it.... my surgery date was nov 8th..i lost 31 pounds from september 19th to november 8th to get ready for surgery...my surgery weigh in was 393..my most recent weigh in was 344 which puts me at 80 lbs lost...now i know some will think this was the easy way out, but i will tell you it is not all easy..i still exercise daily, my food intake is drastically lower ( obviously),,, the good news i am no longer taking ANY blood pressure meds...
i am happy to see that all of you are doing something about your weight, i wish i would have years ago as well, then maybe surgery would not have to be the only "weigh" ( pun intended ) out...
sorry for the long post and thanks for reading

good job. I also had the gastric bypass surgery back in 2001. I started at 515, and the lowest I got to was 220. Over the last year, I have put on about 30lbs, but I still fell so much better. It was the best decision I could have ever made. My advice, try to stay on the eating plan.
