I lost about 60lbs over the last year and felt really proud (I basically achieved that by doing about an hours excercise a night and cutting out beers and snack foods at night) - at the moment I'm kinda putting it back on because I went away on vacation and have been really busy since I got back. But once I get my spare time back I'm gonna get back to were I was because it was great fun not having love handles!

I wish ya luck. I was riding my mtn bike then this beautiful Illinois weather(lots of sarcasm) got to the 100+ heat index and I figure I'll wait for that to break.

Figured if I lose some weight my truck will go faster and get better gas mileage,

I'm still stuck in the 260s. Never under, never over. Workouts are suffering as bowling season is in full swing. Eating is iffy some weeks, but like I said, I've been maintaining 265 (give or take 4lbs) for many months now. Eh.

Well.....the doc said that I was borderline....both with high blood pressure and high cholesterol......so he placed me on the South Beach diet and my fiance is enforcing it.......I have been on it since last Monday and am down 10lbs thus far......not to mention I feel more alert and energetic.....even though I am eating less......we'll see how this week goes.......

Edit to add:

....oh yeah.....I started out last week at 272.....now I am 262........goal is to get to 220......

I'm in the same situation. Went to the Doc yesterday, High blood pressure due to the weight. He suggested the South Beach diet also, don't know anyone's experiences with it but it seems to work for many. I started dieting in October,

Currently at 218, down from 230 in a Month. Unfortunateley, at only 5'6", Im in the "obese" catagory.

Good luck to all!

It stresses lean protein, vegtables,no carbs to start, then you graduate to "healthy" carbs. It appears to be a healthier alternative to Atkins, which in my opinion is terrible.

Doctors don't usually suggest any kind of "fad" diet, this appears to be well accepted by the Medical community. You can accomplish the diet without having to buy any products (use real food, just the right stuff).

I'm going to try the low carb concept for awhile. What has worked well for me is the 5-6 small meals a day. You eat 300-400 calorie meals stressing the lean meat/vegtable concept of the SB diet, We'll see!

Haven't posted to this thread since May but have lost a little over 100 pounds since January and have been maintaining that loss for about 2 1/2 months now. I am 5' 7" and started out at 247 lbs and am now at 145. Last time I weighed this much, I was in Jr. High School, and I wasn't in this good of condition. Lean meat, good carbs, fruit, and vegetables are the way to go.

I stll weigh 221. My right weight is 179. I am 54, and losing weight is just driving me crazy. I must lose for several reasons. 1. I had a heart attack las year. I know most of it because I am a slothful fatass. 2. I love hiking and snow skiing. I sweat like a fat pig doing those thing I love. Hell I went snow skiing today, and I was sweating like a pig again. It was only 21 degrees out.

Been there done that with the sweating thing. I couldn't walk across the street without being soaked in sweat. Summer was terrible for me, but things didn't get much better in the winter. I don't think I owned a long sleeve shirt! Now that I am at a healthy weight, I don't have that problem - but I do get cold pretty easy.

Just checking in again... still just shy of 270... haven't lost anything in like 6 months but haven't gained either. After a week in Vegas and daily buffets its time to drop the rest of this stuff. To give the diet a jump start I've abandon carbs for a few weeks. Week one resulted in a 5lb loss (to get me back under 270) and the work continues this week.

My question to those that have gone the no/low-carb route... what did it do to your energy level? One thing I hate about this is it sucks the life out of me. I have zero energy to workout, wake up feeling like I had a hard workout the day prior, and overall just feel weak. WTF mates?! I'm thinking my body just needs a crapload of carbs!!
