PATS Thread - Program Your Own Keys & Other Useful PATS Info
If he has a 1999 or newer F-150, it is PATS.
SuperDuty line has a different change over to PATS.
RKE & PATS are 2 different things, he has PATS the CSM was an option added at the factory, if ordered.
Prior to spending the money on the RKE fob, have him either
1. Try the procedure in the owners manual for programming the fobs.
2. Look up behind the dash on the driver's side for the CSM.
Note parking brake to the left side of the picture.
Driver's side floor.

Looking up behind dash.
Left side of picture is the ratchet mech for the parking brake.

The CSM will have a 5 digit number on it, in large print. This is the code if he had a door keypad ( also controlled by the CSM ).
Locating the module is the quick way, and the entering programming mode for the RKE fobs can be tricky to time.
I always take at least 2 times to get it into programming mode, on my '01 it took 3 times every time, and I thought I did it the same each time ( obviously I did not ).
If he has the CM, he can also ordered the keypad and the door handle, and add that as well.
The wiring for it should be in the door, he would want to confirm this after confirming the CSM.
The keypad wiring has a terminating plug on it, it is mounted right next to the speaker opening in the drivers side door.

RKE is only Remote Keyless Entry, no theft function in terms of an alarm.
Ford Gold Remote Start / Keyless entry is not integrated into the cluster indicators.
I would take a SWAG that it will not work, but this is just using the PATS info alone, did not try to do it.
Fusion Key - Locksmith is how I did it. Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot all refused to cut the key. The have a little electronic tester thingy and if it detects a PATS RFID chip, they refuse to do it. I googled Locksmith and went to the first guy who answered his phone. $1.50 later I was driving with the key
Getting 2nd key - I took my eBay key to the Dealership with my 1 operating key. Told them to program the eBay key to my Mustang. They charged me 30 minutes of labor for it...$40 was my charge.
Then I bought several extra keys off eBay and programmed them all myself.

I would expect it not to work, but this is how things are found out, someone pays up the money and tries it, and posts the results ( good or bad ) back here.
Someone has to be first.

Tylus said he would buy the fusion key from me if it didn't work but i havent bought one yet, you could buy a fusion key and try it out if it doesn't work sell it to him
My mistake. On th 98, per the dealer brochure, the keyless entry and security system were packaged together. My F150 did not have the LED, no Keyless entry, and my bosses did, Keyless entry.
