Ecoboost F-150 Confirmed !
I agree with the 6.2L comments. They don't want to sell too too many re CAFE, and pending sales in superdutys, may only have so may to go around?
But the 5.0L will not have more HP than the EB. Remember the 5.0L in Stang form is slightly lower on pump gas. They won't have a TT DI engine as the base 4wd engine. All indications say 400/400+ for EB. HP/TQ in FWD EB is limited by trannys. In RWD F150 not an issue.
I'm not sure what would cost more to make EB vs. 6.2, but I know what they'll charge more for. The 6.2L.
My question is what is total weight savings of EB vs. 6.2L cause the lbs savings would sure help in total true payload of the F150! Did you see the large complex exhaust sstem in the SD 6.2L?

Power Kid,
What are you going to do when the FX4 does not come with the 6.2?

I thought I read somewhere that he was going with a less expensive trim anyways, and maybe even a '12 if we start seeing the spy pics this fall/winter. Though I could certainly be wrong, as he seems to build his trucks from the engine outwards, not the other way around.

I can't wait to see the new engines too, PowerKid! But you'd call me MPGguy.
first of all this is just my OPINION
the 3.5eb in the sho only puts out like 365hp...in the history of ford.. the car version is always tuned for more hp...the truck usually needs the more tq and more stable engine as the truck is heavier...
now the 5.0 numbers I just read in the mustang are around 412hp..
I am once again proposing the 5.0 in the truck will have the higher hp number..that does not make it the more premium engine...
also I believe the higher $ on the 6.2 is because of the cafe requirements.. basically they can only sell so many so ultimately it almost turns into a biding war..

I'd prefer not to go to a SD as they cost more and I drove a 2011 the other day and theride is jsut so much rougher... But that may be the wildcard.

If Ford can make the 5R110W in the Super Duty withstand over 1000 lb/ft. of torque like they are in modded 6.4's I'm sure the F150 trans can take whatever torque the EB can throw at it. Ford has said that it will give the pickups a power increase because it will be in a RWD application and the transmission is stronger in the trucks than it is in the other vehicles.
Here is something you may or may not be taking into account. The vehicles the EB current resides in are all transverse mounted drivetrains. The transmission in a transverse mounted drivetrain is much smaller than one that is found in a longitudinally mounted drivetrain. Because of that a RWD transmission will always have the ability to be stronger than one found in a FWD/AWD setup like the one found in the SHO and Flex.

just a reminder did we forget about ford releasing a memo saying the 3.7l na v-6 would also be going into the 2011 f-150.

3.7 / 6 = .6166
.6166 * 8 = 4.9328

Sorry it's off topic lol
The only thing I had heard about that was right after Ford issued the press release that they were going to be putting the 3.5l ecoboost engine in the F-150. The only place I have ever heard of the 3.7l going into the 150 was in the article you posted and the one it references. I still have not seen anything "official" from Ford about it. Has anybody heard anything official?
