Finally the ecoboost F-150 is confirmed for 2011 models !! Ford's obviously going full ahead with ecoboost engines .I'm glad they aren't in the hybrid race .

I hope sales do well with it, i havent tracked sales in the flex/taurus as far as how many are buying the EB option, but im sure Ford wouldnt be doing this if it wasn't going to help them out

Supposedly 365hp w 26mpg. Or so the stats from the ecoboost taurus say. If that is the case, Im starting to save now.

I thought everyone was saying it was be tuned differently than the Taurus... More/less boost, different compression, cam, something... Any word on torque?

It would most certainly have to be geared differently. There would have to be an entirely different driving program than the taurus.

But let me tell you, the supercharged SHO engine is Awesome. I took the 2010 SHO out for a rip over a month ago, and it packs a mean punch... however, I cant see it being anywhere near 26MPGs... maybe 21-22 in a truck this big... maybe

I would think 25-30mpg is possibly. Why? Some guys are getting 20s as is with 2wd V6 reg cabs. A ecoboost 2wd reg cab with a 3.5V6 ecoboost could easily do that. All it takes is a lightfoot. I am averaging over 17 now on winterblend with a 5.4 and basic mods. You watch the rpms and back off early to force shifts sooner, 25-30 is def a reality.

You can't expect a truck that can weigh up to 6k to get the same mileage as a car that weighs maybe half that with the same engine.

Hooray!

Nice to finally see some info about the F150 application of EB, I've been excited about it since Ford first started talking about the darn thing but they always shied away from any F150 references for the most part. It will be interesting to hear what the MPG is, that's what I've been waiting for. As far as the extra HP, that'll be crazy since 97% of the time I'm always first off the line at every stop or light anyways. Don't know if people in MA are afraid to just step on the damn gas when the light turns green or what. With the new EB I'll have to be careful, don't want to add a set of blue lights to my truck...

And let's not forget, if the rumors of another redesign in 2012 turn out to be true, then I'm sure the new EB will make an even bigger contribution to MPG savings since I'm sure a redesign will include even more lighter frame materials and hopefully more weight reductions across the board. We can hope the redesign includes their new remote start from factory, keyless start, Upfitter Switches, BLIS, massaging seats, heated steering wheel, etc... did I mention Upfitter Switches? It IS a truck, albeit a very luxurious one.

If I had to stab in the dark, since the current '09/'10 model gets 14MPG, I'd guesstimate perhaps 17MPG for the new EB engine in '11. I honestly don't expect too much gain for the 2011 unfortunately, but I'm hoping the all-new '12 rumors are true and we'll see a nice jump in that year, perhaps to 20MPG even, which would be fantastic.

If FMC discusses it in more detail tomorrow perhaps we'll hear some more info about the EB engine then. They should get people excited about it soon to help '11 sales if we are going to start seeing spy photos of the '12's with Brenda Priddy written all over them by this winter.

Thanks for the info and link, mete!

Good post Cometflash. I think people are missing the mileage info here. Guys remember these trucks now are said to average 14-15ish. 2wd's are higher. My window sticker says 15 city 19 highway. I average mixed right now, just under my posted highway mpg on the sticker. That ecoboost probably just cruises on the highway and sips gas esp if they use a 6speed tranny. I pull 19 - low 20s on the highway at 60-65. Why would 25 straight highway be so unreal with say a 20ish average overall? It's not.

This sounds real good for mileage and putting a high reving smaller engine in a car with big HP numbers is great. However, will these work for truck applications, such as hauling and towing? First, what kind of boost lag is there? What are the torque numbers? I already think the 4.6 is weak in the torque department. I guess those who never pull anything will like the V-6.
