I can only comment on the newer 4 LED style bulb that replaced the 20 LED bulb you have. 4 LED bulb = problems.

I have the high power 3 led red dome bulb and have no issues. No issues with my old 20 led blue bulb either.

Reviving the ole LED thread. I bought a newer truck, '07 Supercrew Lariat. I have the moon roof so I do not have the overhead console, just the two tiny light boxes. I also have the lighted mirror visors. What LEDs do you Lariat guys have in them? What will I need? Trying to ask before I go out and take apart to measure bulbs.

I also plan to get V-LED bulbs only, and 5000k in color. Make me a shopping cart people!

Here is my roof for reference.

I did some searching into this thread, read back to page 24, I believe I am set on interior/exterior now. I know what bulbs I need/want. Now my only question is, what is the safest way to pull these map & dome housings off to do the swap? Since they have no bulk to them like my '04 with rail system did it doesn't look like you can yank down with both hands.

I have the same truck as yours except and 04, it looks almost identical. The plastic housings popped right out on mine very easily, even the one behind the sunroof. Just pull down and they will come out.

Alright, so no tool to aid in pulling it down is necessary? Just don't want to scratch plastic or ding the headliner.

the front map lights pop down as a whole pretty easily. same with the rear dome light. just kinda pry on it and it will pop out. i think it calls for a 578 bulb in the rear dome or something like that, but what i found is that vleds was wrong, they say the 211 will fit in the 578 socket, but its actually 2mm too short, so my dome bulb was sliding around in there. when finding one you gotta make sure its the 24mm wide one, not the 22mm one. then the fronts are just 914 bulbs.

Darren,

Congrats on the new truck! Any reason for switching, just wanting something different? FWIW, It was a PITA to pop my light housings out. I really thought I was going to break them. I believe I used a screwdriver, not so much for prying, but mainly for keeping the housing from going back into the hole. It made it easier to get a good handle on the housing and give a strong pull. I remember when I was first trying to get them off I would go out to the truck, attempt to get the housings off, fail, look online for a how to, fail at finding one, and try again. I repeated that process multiple times. Finally I said F it and yanked on it really hard. That worked for me.

Here are all the bulbs I used. They all fit and work fine in my 2007, so the comparable 5k versions should work in yours.

The Dome Light I purchased isn't available through them now. It was the 20 LED version.

This seems to be the new choice dome light.

If you are switching out your signal bulbs to LEDs you may need to install a new flasher. I picked up mine at my local Pep Boys.

For the dome light, you really only have one option. DOME
I'm still using the 20 LED light you linked to in the very first post of this thread, so I can't say much about this style. Some people reported issues with keyless entry? Not sure if that will be an issue, but it seems it puts out good light.

For the maps, you could get the same style I am using, but in 5k. Map 1
I know that syle will fit and puts out light.

They also now sell a HP that should fit in there. Map 2 The specs say it's slightly smaller than the version I am using. VLEDS lists the output as 50 lumens, which is almost matches the HP dome which is listed at 52 lumens. The color temp should be the same regardless, but you might get a better match using both HP bulbs in maps and dome?

VLEDs gives both versions of those map lights an output rating of 4/5 stars. However, I want to believe the HP is brighter. All of my exterior LEDs are HP, and my interior are the regular SMTs. The outside LEDs seem like they are much brighter, but given they are all different style bulbs, in different style housings, on different areas of the truck, that comparison should be taken with a grain of salf.

Got some LED's in from China a few weeks ago, thought I'd pass the low-down.

All sizes in the title have the same base fit so I'll call these, small, medium and large.

Map lights used 906's. Here's a pic with medium in the left and small in the right. I used the medium in the map lights.

This is with the medium left and large right side.

I put the large in the cargo lamps which called for a 921.

The map lights called for 194 where I used the small ones.

The bulbs are a cool white around 6500k. The cargo lights seem to be a bit dimmer at first, but still light up the area well. The small LED's as shown are really only good for the plate lights.

man i gotta get on this. such a huge difference for such a small price. LED just looks so clean and classy and filament looks cheap after seeing all these pics in this thread.

The 04 had 108k miles and it was getting a little problem prone. Passenger door mirror started rattling, gas cap broke, transmission was slipping even after a fluid exchange, I still wanted to modify it a bit which was money wasted, it just made more sense to get the truck with the trim pkg I actually wanted and a few less miles. I kinda miss the burgundy paint as that is my absolute favorite paint job, but the black is classy and great looking, even the chrome pkg looks alright on it. I am quite pleased with it all. I was wanting a black FX4 Lux for the longest time as I wanted the all black exterior to black out ( Mblouir, blackoutFX4 style ) and the luxurious black leather interior. I had my chance at an 08 FX4 lux 6'5 and I let it slip, costed too much imo, 20k miles $30k tag. I seen this one on my local Chevy lot at the corner of my eye. 4 people had seen it before I did and I went to look at it, test drove it, couple days later I took it home to inspect it deeply and got maintenance records and all, put money down and traded my '04 in May 10th. I do not miss the old truck hardly at all. This was a great upgrade. The interior I want, the trim level I want, the options, only thing I wish it had was line-x bedliner & 6'5 bed but that surely didn't effect me from purchasing. And my '04 also sold within 24hrs of trade in, the next day someone bought it that afternoon. I never even got to see it parked in the lot for sale

Awesome thank you for the list. I actually bookmarked that list last night seeing it in a previous post. It does make sense that HP to HP bulbs may look the most similar in color output. I will do the 5k inside & 6k outside. I am set now, just need to know when they have a good sale going on because this will be a bit expensive :o.

Get them on ebay from China, very inexpensive and worth the wait.

I see your economical point, but, to no offense, I wouldn't be able to see your plate number with those LEDs. V-LEDs costs some, but you get what you pay for in some circumstances. For example, my old truck..
