04 - 08 interior dome LEDs complete
This is my review on my experience with the interior LED change over. Carolinaboy and I decided to each buy these bulb and post our feedback. I have a 2004 Supercab XLT. No door lights, no visor vanity lights, or rear seat map lights. Just front two maps and the rear dome. After a months debate on what specific LEDs to go with,.
For the front map lights, I settled for the 13 SMT LED 194 bulbs that come as a pair from V-Leds.com ( part #194_13_SMT_W. These bulbs offer 3 forward shooting bulbs, and 10 side firing bulbs. They light the front up perfect, you will need a very side shooting bulb so it reflects light off of the reflective backing in the map light console.
For the rear dome, I did countless measurements to debate whether I would go with V-Led's 36 LED festoon bulb, or the 20 LED version. Measurements proved the 36 LED board would be 1/16th of an inch too wide for the currents for the bulb, so I settled for the 20LED part #211_20_W which fits just perfect. Almost too big even.
They both match perfectly, giving what they say, a 6000k HID hue. Looking at the bulb housings they appear to be slightly blue, but in person they are quite white. They light up my XLT's interior much better than the filament bulbs did. Together they were $27.98, and $33.27 shipped. Well worth it for the much more enhanced lighting color, and output produced.
Onto the photos and simple instructions.
All photos were shot with the same aperture and shutter settings to help better display the output difference and color change.
Here is how these LED bulbs compare to the factory standard filaments.
I have the overhead rail cargo system.

To remove the overhead consoles to access the light, remove the storage bin(s) and take a flat head screwdriver under the console.
Dont worry about creating scratches, the console bin re-insterted will hide them. Twist the driver to pop it down, and pull one side loose with your figners, repeat the same on the other side. Once both ends are loose, pull straight down with light force, the console will come loose and hang by the dome wiring. Then you will be able to unscrew the map light bulb sockets and swap the bulbs out. If the LEDs do not light up, pull them out of the sockets and rotate them 180 degrees and re-insert them. LEDs are polarity sensitive and draw current in certain ways.
Doing one side first is a good way to compare the output difference and color difference.
And here is the clearance for the 20 LED festoon.
Done and installed. ( To see full sized photos, click here )
This concludes my report on a dome LED change over. Everyone with $30 bucks to blow should do this!

Here's my review:
Well I’ve been slowly updating to LEDs all the way around in my 2004 Supercrew with the rail system. I originally got my first pair of LED bulbs from ebay. I started by buying a pair of License plate ones that guy guaranteed they would be bright, but guess what they were dimmer than the incandescent ones. The ebay seller say that he would refund my money if I returned them, but it was not worth the money.
Well I decided to upgrade to “REAL” LED ones and interiors. I first just got some SMT Tower IIs from autolumination but they were too tall for the license plate housing. So I stuck them in my front map lights. They were awesome. So I waited a while to upgrade the rest of my other ones. Well when Darren started his “interior LED plans” thread I decided to upgrade along with him b/c it was long overdue. I got the same lights as he did but also got some License plate ones too, they are definitely brighter than stock here are some shots of them. Darren's pictures are a better reference than mine but I added some anyways (we are all picture ****** here ) My rear dome light can accomodate the 36'r so I might do that eventually, I will be the guinea pig
Dome Light
License Plate
Map Lights
Old Map Lights(Right) New VLED (left)
License Plate
Comparison Shot (look at the ugly filament bulb color)
Shot of Driver side (I can see the floormats really well actually better than OEM Bulbs)
Back Seat Before:
Map Light Comparison
Map Lights Only
20 LED Dome Light (OLD)
36 LED DOME LIGHT (NEW) the Right One
Sorry for the blurry pics I couldn't get my Camera settings down , Getting used to this new Nikon D80
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW: Don't think twice about getting LEDs in your truck, its a huge difference
