btw, i HATE having 4 cats makes the exhaust SO quiet. i have a flowmaster 10 which is a loud muffler yet its quiet as can be.. i need to cut out those rear cats soon.
You ahould be happy to have 4 cats. Cut out the rear cats and you will gain a hell of a lot of volume without a CEL.

I got 190,300 miles and no trouble at all, just normal oil changes at 9000 miles with synthetic oil, brake pads only & new tires is all. run good

Starting to have electrical problems

112k miles on my '04 Lariat 4x4. A minor accident (or two) and only just starting to give me concern. Shift console light, 4x4 dash indicator light, fog light and center-dash power adaptor (cigarette lighter) recently went out. Not all at same time. Anyone know how to fix these?

'04 Lariat SuperCrew 4X4 - 66K. Very happy so far. Replaced LH (IWE) Hub. New rear rotors on my last brake job. Replaced both foglights because they started leaking in water. Still on original tires but soon will need to be replaced. Some of the above stories are not good, but bottom line is: If you take good care of this truck, it will last a long time. I do have a small rust spot on the lip of the LR wheel well (underneath the plastic trim). Anyone else with rust issues?

Just replaced both IWE's in mine 60,000mi. Now the 4th item that should have been a recall. Last one is the cam phasers but I now have my truck for sale and don't care.

2004 96K miles.

Biggest issue has been window regulator and reverse taking a little while to 'kick in'.

Any DIY for the reverse problem?

Great Truck, 188,000mi

it's been great. I put her through pulling a landscape trailer and only repairs I've had are brakes which still seem to squeek for some reason and unfortunately the transmission went about 5k ago.

Mine is at 145k miles and so far other than routine maintenance I've had an A/C line replaced under warranty at <10k miles due to rubbing a hole in it, cam phasers, and passenger side fog lamp assembly which leaked enough to explode 3 Silverstar bulbs at $25 each. Other than that, as many others have said, it's been an extremely reliable truck for me. I bought the truck off the lot on Oct. 18 of '03 and 8+ years later it's holding up really strong with the exception of the IWE system and the wiring in the driver's door jamb. Some much needed repairs are in order within a week or two but I'll get it all straightened out and drive it until it is no longer able to move itself.

All in all, the only complaints I have are:
-the surging at low highway speeds 30-45 mph appx.
-a slight vibration that is coming from the drive shaft I'm pretty sure
-the IWE system failure recently
-the driver's door wiring that I've already fixed once
-the loss of 5-6 mpg on the highway (no clue what happened, used to get 20+ now I struggle to get 15-16 mpg)
-the horrible rod knocking or rattling at start-up
-transmission starting to slip a bit on stock tune, I keep it tightened up with my Edge Evo

Even though some of the problems may be significant I just keep reminding myself how far it's taken me. If I had to do it over again back in '03 I'd have made the same choice, it was a good one and as soon as I get some bugs worked out it will take me much farther.

2004 Supercrew Lariat 4x4, now at 180,000 Miles. Purchased new in September 2004. Continuies to be the best vehicle I have ever owned. Normal wear and tear stuff, some transmission work done at about 140,000 when the overdrive "band" (I think) went out. Heater core went bad but just bi-passed it since I live in sunny warm South Florida. Air conditioning still blows frigid with no work ever done on it. Passenger side window stopped working so need to fix that. Electric back slider has always worked intermittedly. Lots of "diesel" sound from engine bay from cam phasers. Timing chain rattles on start up. Still on original starter, alternator, headlights, fog lights. Interior and exterior in great shape. I did have the drivers side seat side re-sewn form the wear and tear of getting in and out. Engine still pulls strong on my 87 tune Superchips Programmer, which has been on the vehicle since almost new. Magnaflow exhaust still sounds great and Air-Raid Jr. too.

I keep eyeing a new truck but I hate to part with this one, she's been a good one!

just passed the 100,000 mark on the ODO a few days ago. have done all the recommended ford maintenance and just got quote on the 100k service. I lost my window regulator on my drivers door a year ago, and my passenger door a month ago. Looks to be a common thing and scares the hell out of you when your window POPs and drops into the door at the speed of light. My power steering is loud as heck when it is hot outside, but i think that is due to the 1 inch of hose I cut off after it started leaking. This has been an amazing truck. been paid off for a while so just running this one into the ground...i've only owned it for just over 4 years and bought it with 30k miles.

I have an aftermarket exhaust and K&N filter, oversided tires and a tuner, but other than that its stock. Haven't done many things to this one.

Any idea what the replacement ended up costing overall? Did you do the install yourself?
