Got 95k miles on mine (bought it used at 45k miles in 06), have had no major issues since owning it. Had to have a coil pack replaced at about 65k miles, and the circuit board that controls the fuel pump had to be replaced as the metal box it was located in rusted out and moisture got into it. Other than that no issues. About to get the plugs replaced within the next few 1000 miles. Still love my rig (but secretly want a new F-150 Eco Boost, guess it's no longer a secret huh?) lol

Just a little over 131,600 miles and still holding up great. Got a power steering leak that I need to figure out but other than that no complaints.

Misfire Problem

I have a 04 f150 ( new body style) with 4.6 and 142,000 and I was driving doesn't the highway the other day and it started sputtering and shaking.I used the diagnostic feature on my edge programer and it came up with 4 codes. Multiple engine misfire, cylinders 1,3 and 8 misfire.
I replaced the coil packs on all 3 of them and it still showed cylinders 3 and 8 misfire.
I did the spark plugs at 100k and did the fuel filter 5k ago. Anyone have this problem or can help??? Thanks

It could have fouled the plugs. Change them again, see if that helps

Check the injectors. If they are fine, do a compression test

I posted this in the What Did you do to Your Truck Today thread. Truck took a couple weeks to figure out but they did not soley work on my truck. Kinda pissed me off. Anyway.

Mine finally got fixed today. Replaced cam shaft actuator on passenger side.Last thursday while driving it all of a sudden developed a vibration and was down on power. It was the familiar "uh oh, engine just blew up" vibration. LoL. I picked the kids up from school and limped it to the mechanic.

At the shop the mechanic put a scanner on and showed 14 codes. So after his research he was hoping it was the actuator. I told him to go ahead. Got the call 20 minutes later that the new actuator had cured the issue.

Also found out the previous owner had not been good at taking care of the truck. Lots of sludge in there. I've owned it long enough for two oil changes. Those two oil changesseem to have washed the gunk and it's now moving through the engine. So he put a quart of tranny fluid in with fresh oil and I'm going to changeoil every 500 milesfor 5 times and hope that cleans things up. This is a recommendation by Ford actually when sludge found.

I've posted before but figured I'd update. I don't have an '04 but rather a 2005 February production date, so it's close, 201,754 miles on it now and running strong. I did have to rebuild the trans at 195,000 miles but I thought that was pretty good considering the way I run it!

114,000 and cam phasor went. Sounded like engine was coming apart. Ford wanted $7,000 to replace engine. Two local garages wanted same. Found another garage who wanted to try something different. If it worked, great. If not, I was out $50, which he would apply toward new engine. He drained oil and flushed for three hours with kerosene. Every 20 minutes had to run it up to 1,200 RPM and hold for 2 minutes. Let it sit over night to settle system, including lifters. Next day, started it up and no noise. Drained out kerosene and refilled with synthetic oil (5W-30 not 5W-20). 5,000 miles so far and no problems. Even that nuisance diesel tapping sound is gone. Total cost $130 (not including 1/2 tank of gas used during flushing).

So all the oil was out of the engine and only kerosene was in the oil pan and motor?? Neve heard of this before, what exactly was this supposed to do?
