Have you hitched up a #5000 travel trailer to a 4.2 or even a 4.6 before??? Lets see how those fair on a 6% grade compared to the 5.4.....

My 3rd 2v 5.4L I've owned.
I've towed things such as utility trailers with construction debris weighing in around 4000lbs up a 6%+ grade in both my 99 SC 4x4 5.4L's and needless to say its not very impressive. So I can't imagine the hurt it would do to a v6.

That's not what you said, shoot I wanted the rock crawler with huge tires and to pic the track. I'll even let you get the hole shot. Run fast or you will die

What I was insinuating is that under the right circumstances, a 4.2 could beat a 5.4. And you are right, thats not what I said, I said a brand new v6 with every mod possible, and mine is 2007. Got a deal for you, you buy me a supercharger and Ill buy you the tires and lift!

Mitch, I not saying that a 4.2 is comparable to the 5.4. There are alot of things I wouldnt attempt in my truck. I wouldnt even think of trying to tow something that large. I wouldnt take it seriously offroading, and so on.

I know they make adapter intake manifolds to put stock Lightning Eatons on the 4.2

Wow, and it stays together ?? Probably have to build the bottom first ehh and just about everything else. I imagine it would go pretty good tho, but why ? Is it worth it ?

Compared to what?? Not towing anything at all?? A SD Diesel??

Towing performance is completely speculative to each individual..... What tows "fine" for me might be the worst thing on Earth to someone else...

I'm not saying I'm bombing up that 6% grade in OD doing 70 mph either...

I'm in second gear, maintaining a nice, easy 50-55 mph pulling around 3500 rpms and only pressing the gas pedal about half way to the floor (with the A/C on too, since it's usually Summer when I tow that route)... If I need a 'burst' of speed, I can mat it and it'll pull ahead past 65 mph and 5 grand in a minute or two... But that only happens if I come upon a Semi doing about 25 mph in my lane!!

My Dad has a 2008 F150 Reg cab 2wd with the V6 in it and I'd have to say, that thing is pretty 'spunky' and fun to drive around.... I'm sure it'll take my 1997 F150 ECab 4x4 5.4 with over 208,000 miles on it in a 'stop light' run.... Probably even a rolling 'stomp it' run.... BFD....

The thing is that both of our trucks are just different kind of "TOOLS"... Each tool is meant for a different thing... Same as all the others on the 7 + pages of posts here..... Use the right "TOOL" for the right situation and that's what will come out on top.... I can use a butter knife as a screwdriver, but using the real screw driver works much better.....

This made me literally lol at my desk. The two girls that work for me asked "What?" lol

Possibly the 351. The 302? No freaking way. I've owned a couple. One in a mustang and one in a Bronco. Complete dogs. Great motor, but a complete dog.

When I picked this truck up, i had my buddy see if he could up with the sport trac vs the F150. No chance, unfortantly. The sport trac had around 235 HP with the LTs and tune and probably even more with the bigger gears. My 260 STOCK at the time F150 weighing almost 1,000 lbs more beat it by a half truck length. I would love to see that go against me now with 4.10s. Its the HP and TQ in the certain powerpands that make the 5.4 with only 20 hp more than the sport trac, faster. Im not tryin to rude at all, im just being realistic.
Ok your sounding a little stupid right here... gears do not give you more power. They just increase the mechanical advantage of the power you already have.

And yall have convinced me, I guess im going to have to do the famous 5.4 to 4.2 swap! lol

THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!
