Rough Idle Update

Just to update you on my problem, in March my check engine light came on. The mechanic found that O2 sensor was bad and replaced it, since them my right idle problem has stopped and my gas mileage has improved.

Just got home from Ford Service. I had them look at a problem with the soot in my exhaust and a hesitation when under load.

What they found was a bad #4 coil caused by the leaky clamp. Seems to have improved idle and power but not able to put the load to it.

Unhappy another one for the group...

Have a 2002 F150 supercab 4.6L V8 that has shaked since about the 3rd day I owned it... first trip into the service department was at 400 miles. They have told me the same lines of crap they have told everyone else on this post. I already have the new motor mounts and they even loosened mine up and have the engine reset into them. It is just a small shaking feeling and it drives me nuts like you all. Been told they are also working on a ECU update to address this problem. I will add my information to the other site and keep myself posted here.

This seems to be the active thread so I am posting here so I can be included in everything.

36racin -
I am very sorry to hear about your son. I have 2 daughters and hate to hear bad things happening to other Ford family members.

Hopefully there will be a fix soon for everyone w/this problem.
Hang in there 36racin - I have 2 Churches praying for you as well as family & friends. God Bless to you & your family.

These trucks should run smooth. It is 2003 now. With the current breed of electronic engine management systems these engines should be smooth as silk. Engineering tolerances are higher than ever. When my 98 4.6 was new you couldn't even tell it was idling, one time I turned the key to start it and it was already running .... damn quiet. It's a little rougher now but I have a heavy foot. I'm getting a bit of a burp/bang out of the exhaust at WOT acceleration. Lately it's also pinging quite a bit so it's probably time to replace and clean out EGR components, also have to clean the MAF sensor wire which I haven't done for a while... darn K&N oil.

P-FERLOW,
DO YOU KNOW IF THESE ENGINES HAVE KNOCK SENSORS ON THEM LIKE THE OLDER TRUCKS DID? MY KNOCK SENSOR WENT BAD ON MY 92 FORD AND MESSED THE TIMING UP WHICH COULD MAKE THE ELECTRONICS LEAN OFF THE MIXTURES AND CAUSE THE PING.

As far as I know they do. I don't think mine is working either. Thinking of removing the intake piping up to the throttle body and running it while spraying water with a small fine mist sprayer into the throttle body. The fine mist of water turns to steam in the combustion chamber effectively steam cleaning the heads/pistons/valves. Or so I've been told. Makes sense anyhow.

Otherwise I'm going to check every bit of the EGR system to look for clogged components, also the IAC valve might be stuffed up.

HEY, CAPITAL LETTERS MEAN YOU'RE SCREAMING!
